‘Bipasha Basu stalled the shoot for three hours over an omelette': Mika recalls traumatic experience as producer, admits Akshay Kumar warned him
Singer Mika Singh made his debut as a producer with the web series Dangerous, starring married couple Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover. But the experience made him second guess his decision. He has spoken often about the difficult time he had with the two actors, and has previously accused them of throwing tantrums on set and making unreasonable demands. In a new interview, Mika recalled how Bipasha brought the shoot to a halt for three hours because she wanted an omelette. ' Ek omelette ke peeche pura shoot ruk gaya. Teen ghante ke liye shoot ruk gaya omelette ke peeche (The entire shoot was halted over an omelette for three hours),' he told Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast.
Asked about the production, Mika said, 'It was a dangerous experience. The movie starred Bipasha Basu and her husband, Karan Singh Grover. The last time they worked together was in 2013, in a movie called Alone. How was I supposed to know that producers are actually worthless in this business. I thought producers are the big-shots. Now, Akshay Kumar has taught me what a producer really does; they only call actors to set and tell them that the shot is ready.'

He continued, 'In my head, I'm the best producer of Bollywood after Dharma. I'm sitting here, and they have a problem with their omelette on set. Luckily, I had sent my personal chef to be with them, anticipating exactly something like this. I'd told him to placate them if something goes wrong. Bipasha didn't eat her breakfast and showed up on set. At 11 in the morning, I get a call, 'Mika, what is happening? This is such a rubbish production'. I was like, 'What happened?' She says, 'Omelette'. I told my guy to make her an omelette.'
Mika said that things went from bad to worse when Karan broke his leg, and insisted upon getting treatment in London. He said, 'I'm sitting here, having spent all that money on the production. Then, Karan breaks his leg. He could've gotten it treated in India, but he stayed there for three months. It was a childishly simple stunt, and he broke his leg, poor guy. I have no beef with them, but it makes you wonder why certain people aren't successful. You should never turn your nose at opportunities. You don't respect success. You think that the producer is your servant. You should worship producers, because you don't know what'll happen to you tomorrow.'
Previously, in an interview on the KADAK YouTube channel, the singer said that Bipasha and Karan demanded separate rooms, and refused to perform a kissing scene that was in the script. He said, 'I took a team of 50 to London for a month-long schedule. However, it was extended to two months. Karan and Bipasha created a lot of drama. They were a married couple, so I booked a single room for them. But, they were like, 'No, we need our separate rooms.' I didn't understand the logic. They then demanded to moved to a different hotel. We did that as well.'
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Mika said that the drama caused the production's budget to escalate from Rs 4 crore to Rs 14 crore. 'The shoot was set in London, and the budget increased from Rs 4 crore to Rs 14 crore. And the drama created by Bipasha ensured that I would always regret getting into production,' he said.

Housefull 5 Day 1 Box Office Trends: Akshay Kumar and team set for Rs 20 crore plus opening
The Akshay Kumar led Housefull 5 has taken a good start at the box office, as very early trends are indicating first day business in the north of Rs 20.00 crore, with the scope to go higher depending on the spot bookings for the evening and night shows. The advances were mediocre for a franchise film like Housefull, but the spot bookings have made the difference pushing the film towards a good opening. As on Friday at 4.15 PM, the Akshay Kumar led film has grossed Rs 8.40 crore in the national chains and is headed for a finish around the Rs 14.00 crore (NBOC: Rs 11.75 crore). The national chain contribution is expected to be around 53 percent to 55 percent, which indicates the first day business around the Rs 22 crore mark. There is a scope to go higher depending on the walk-ins, as comedies tend to perform the best in the evening and night shows with families coming on board. It's a non-holiday release, and Housefull 5 has recorded the biggest non-holiday start for not just Akshay Kumar but also the comic genre in general. There will be a spike in business on Saturday and the same is visible already in the advance booking trends, where the film has sold about 60,000 tickets in the national chains at 4 PM. The film is doing well in the non-national chains and single screens too, though there is a scope for the collections to be a lot better. The business is going up on a show by show basis in the single screens. Liberty (Delhi), sold 105 tickets in the morning show, followed by 252 tickets in noon and 858 tickets in matinee. The sales in Regent Patna grew from 119 tickets in the 9 AM show, to 613 tickets for the 3.30 PM show. Raj Mandir Jaipur is also showing an upward trajectory, with admits jumping from 221 at 9.15 AM show, to 868 for 3.15 PM show. The early response on the digital world seems to be mixed, but the exhibitor feedbacks suggest a different picture, though one can say the same with surety only on seeing the Monday hold. The start lays a platform for Housefull 5, but its just half the job done as the film needs to show a strong weekend trend, and then a steady trajectory on the weekend to pass the finishing line with flying colours. All said and done, it's also the biggest opening day till date for a film from Housefull franchise, surpassing the previous best, Housefull 4 (Rs 17.50 crore). One must note that there are very early estimates, based on trends till 4 PM, and the actuals could vary depending on the performance towards evening and night shows. After Deepika Padukone, Barun Sobti champions 8-hour shifts: ‘Producers want us to work 12 hours everyday'
Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone's reported exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit over an eight-hour shift demand has brought the issue of working hours in Bollywood to the forefront. Filmmakers like Mani Ratnam and Tarun Mansukhani have expressed their support for Deepika. Now, in an interview with Pinkvilla, actor Barun Sobti has also voiced his support for eight-hour shifts for actors. (Also Read: I started slow and picked up gradually: actor Barun Sobti on his showbiz journey) When asked if he would ever want to become a producer, Barun revealed, 'I am getting into co-production and things like that, but when I become a producer, I want to be the kind who is large-hearted. I will not make my people work excessively. I think it'll be like eight-hour shifts.' He further spoke about whether he would implement corporate-like timings from 9 to 5. Barun said, 'I won't mind that. With respect to hours, less working hours, a good life for everyone. We work a lot, and all producers want us to work 12 hours and travel two hours every day. So it's a little tough, especially for people who aren't paid well. A lot of people work harder than I do, but aren't compensated adequately. I would like to make everyone's life simpler, if at all, I become a producer someday.' Deepika, who recently embraced motherhood, reportedly refused to work more than eight hours a day and requested extra pay for shoots extending beyond 100 days for Vanga's Spirit. Her demands reportedly didn't sit well with the director, who later replaced her with Triptii Dimri. Meanwhile, Barun will next be seen in the second season of his popular show Kohrra. Co-directed by Sharma and Faisal Rahman and penned by Gunjit Chopra, Diggi Sisodia, and Sudip Sharma, the show is produced by Film Squad Productions in collaboration with Act Three Productions. The series also stars Mona Singh in a key role. The show's release date is yet to be announced, but it is scheduled to premiere on Netflix this year.
