The Hindustan Times gave it three stars, calling it a film that 'fully embraces its nonsense, and it somehow works.' In contrast, The Indian Express rated it two stars, commenting that the sequel is only "slightly better than the first one."

According to The Times of India, the film's first half offers some entertainment, but the plot soon becomes overstuffed with characters and comedy tracks. 'Some of the humour misses the mark — like Jassi watching Raja's aged Russian stepmom pole dance. Routine song-and-dance sequences drag the narrative without adding to the plot. The climax is convoluted, predictable, and over-dramatised,' the review added.
Audience reactions on social media are mixed as well. One X user commented: '#SonOfSardaar2 Review: A full-on #AjayDevgn show with desi comedy and family drama. #MrunalThakur looks stunning and delivers a solid performance. Some scenes feel stretched, but overall it's a fun ride that gives the same entertainment as part one. Recommended.'

Another fan wrote: '#SonOfSardaar2 It's a wonderful movie — lots of comedy, lots of laughing moments. It's a complete family entertainer. A must-watch.'
However, one brutally honest reaction has gone viral.
In a hilarious video doing the rounds on X, a man deadpans: "I was bitten by a street dog, people beat me up, and even my family begged me to watch anything but Son of Sardaar 2… but I was a fool. There's nothing good in the film except the interval and the exit."
Watch the viral clip here (it might just be funnier than Son of Sardaar 2 itself):

Kajol Channels Tanuja On 50th Birthday, Greets Paps In Classic Black And White Saree
Kajol turned 50 on August 5 and looked like a spitting image of her mother Tanuja as she greeted paps in a white and black saree with a retro hairdo. Kajol turned 50 on Tuesday, August 5, and marked the milestone with grace, style and nostalgia. The actress stepped out of her Mumbai residence to greet the paparazzi waiting outside, and her look immediately caught attention. Draped in a classic white saree with a shimmering black border and a black blouse, Kajol bore a striking resemblance to her legendary mother, veteran actress Tanuja. Her look was completed with a retro middle-parted ponytail and minimal makeup, allowing her natural features to shine. She wore statement earrings and a ring, while keeping her accessories subtle. Kajol's warm smile and confident wave to the cameras made fans nostalgic for the golden era of cinema with many calling her a spitting image of Tanuja from her younger days. The visual homage to her mother didn't go unnoticed, and social media was quick to draw comparisons, with fans posting side-by-side images of Tanuja in her youth and Kajol's birthday look. Earlier in the day, Kajol's husband, actor Ajay Devgn, took to Instagram to post a birthday message filled with love and humour. Sharing two monochrome photos of Kajol — one from her youth and another recent click — Ajay wrote, 'Could say a lot but you would still roll your eyes. So… happy birthday, favourite Kajol." In February, Kajol had also shared a birthday post for Ajay, joking, 'All the cool people were born in August, but we don't mind wishing you a happy birthday 😉 …. thank u for always being older than me." Kajol and Ajay Devgn tied the knot in 1999 and are parents to two children – Nysa and Yug. On the work front, Kajol was last seen in the supernatural thriller Maa, while Ajay's latest release Son of Sardaar 2 hit theatres recently. Kajol's upcoming project Maharagni: Queen of Queens is also generating buzz. First Published: August 05, 2025, 22:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Son Of Sardaar 2 box office collection day 5: Ajay Devgn impressed audiences with his comic timing in the 2012 film Son of Sardaar, which became a commercial success, earning ₹150 crore worldwide on a budget of ₹40 crore. However, the sequel appears to have failed to attract large audiences to theatres. According to Sacnilk, Son of Sardaar 2 has earned ₹29.46 crore in five days. A still from the film Son of Sardaar 2 featuring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur. Son Of Sardaar 2 struggles at the box office The trade tracking site reported that the film witnessed a drop in collections on its first Monday, collecting only ₹2.35 crore. On its first Tuesday, the film's fifth day, there was no improvement, with earnings of only ₹2.36 crore. The film's total domestic collection now stands at ₹29.46 crore. In terms of global earnings, the film has managed ₹37.75 crore. Son of Sardaar 2 is also facing stiff competition from Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Saiyaara, which is in its third week and continues to perform strongly at the box office. The film earned ₹2.32 crore on Tuesday, its 18th day, taking its total domestic collection to ₹304.42 crore. About Son of Sardaar 2 Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and jointly produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N.R. Pachisia, and Pravin Talreja, the film sees Ajay reprising his role as Jassi, who now pretends to be a war hero to help a couple gain their parents' approval for marriage. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Roshni Walia, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Neetu Bajwa and Sanjay Mishra in key roles. The film received mixed reviews upon its release. While Ajay's performance was appreciated, many were more impressed by Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, and Deepak Dobriyal's comic timing. An excerpt from Hindustan Times' review of Son of Sardaar 2 reads, "Son of Sardaar 2 is not smart cinema, it's not even necessary cinema, but it knows exactly what it's doing. It throws logic out, drags a dhol band in, and somehow marches to the beat of its own madness. And you won't hate the noise."

Amid dating rumours with Dhanush, Mrunal Thakur says she believes in ‘buri nazar': ‘You should control how much you are telling the world'
Mrunal Thakur has been celebrating the release of her latest film Son of Sardaar 2, also starring Ajay Devgn, and in a recent interview, Mrunal talked about her aspirations and how she navigates the film industry while keeping a positive state of mind. She also spoke about 'evil eye' and said that she believes in the curse of the evil eye. In a chat with Instant Bollywood, Mrunal shared that she is looking forward to many developments in her career, but does not like discussing them openly. She said, 'There are a lot of things I still need to do with my career, a lot of boxes I haven't checked. But I will talk about those things once I actually do them, because I don't want to jinx it by talking about them. I believe the whole nazar thing, 'boht nazar lagti hai' (evil eye jinxes things).' Mrunal expanded on this as she talked about the feeling of apprehension she gets when talking about her future goals. She gave her two cents on how one should deal with being in the public eye, especially when she is surrounded by those who might not always be well-wishers. 'Boundaries. One should think before speaking about oneself. You should control how much you are telling the world. Sometimes we end up saying the things we want to do or are doing currently, and we jinx it ourselves. I have a very different personality in that sense, because someone might talk about the number of releases they have next year. I don't want to talk about it; everyone knows what's coming and what's not. I don't like to constantly think and talk about the things that are happening in my life,' she said and added, 'People ask me about my work and how I deal with the pressure, but I don't feel it. I am a very positive person, so I don't have to necessarily work on it. I don't even feel tense or pressured before a release.' ALSO READ: Hansika Motwani removes wedding pictures from social media, fans speculate if she is heading towards divorce Mrunal's personal life has caught the eye of the rumour mill after she was spotted attending a party with actor Dhanush. The Kuberaa actor also attended the screening of Son of Sardaar 2, and this added fuel to the fire. As per News18 Showsha, the two are dating each other, but have stayed mum about their relationship. Dhanush was previously married to Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The couple divorced in 2024 after 20 years of marriage.
