Will Howard ready to embrace life with Aaron Rodgers — if he signs with Steelers

New York Post24-05-2025

Will Howard is fine living in Mr. Rodgers' neighborhood.
Aaron Rodgers remains in a free-agent flirtation with the Steelers, who are proceeding through OTAs with veteran journeyman Mason Rudolph, the rookie sixth-round pick Howard and newcomer Skylar Thompson taking all the snaps.
If Rodgers signs with the Steelers — as he is hinting could happen — then any competition to start is over, and Howard will spend his rookie year on the bench.

'I don't know what's going to happen,' Howard told FanDuel TV's Kay Adams in his first comment on Rodgers. 'That's all over my head. But I'd love to be in a room and learn from him. Again, who knows what's going to happen.'
That's a smart approach by Howard.

Sure, he just led Ohio State to the national championship and saved his best for the four-game playoff run, but Rodgers is more amenable to passing along knowledge than his mentor Brett Favre was.
Look at Jordan Love's successful first two seasons starting for the Packers, after spending three on the bench behind Rodgers.
Whether or not Rodgers comes to Pittsburgh, Howard already has attached himself to a future Hall of Famer.

Ben Roethlisberger, who quarterbacked the Steelers to two Super Bowl wins in 18 seasons but lost one head-to-head Super Bowl to Rodgers, and Howard have begun a friendship.
'They need like a gritty guy,' Howard said of Steelers fans. 'Growing up for me, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Big Ben, Big Ben was that guy. He was Pittsburgh. He was the Steel City, the blue collar and gritty guy. And I want to be that, too. I want to bring that edge and that energy. I think I did a pretty good job of it at Ohio State, and I kind of like to pride myself on that. And I'm going to try and bring it to the Steel City.'
Way back when, Howard lost a competition to start for Kansas State in 2021 to his now-Steelers teammate Thompson.
But he has come a long way since then, including two years starting at Kansas State before Ohio State.

Giants' Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston Having 'More Giggles' in New York

Giants' Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston Having 'More Giggles' in New York originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With all of the flack that veteran quarterback Russell Wilson has been getting over the last few seasons, playing football has most likely not been as fun for him as it used to be. Advertisement But now that he is with the New York Giants, it seems that things may have changed for Wilson. The 36-year-old field general recently spoke with the media, and he talked a bit about how fun his time in New York has already been with his new teammates. "Man, it's been a joy," Wilson said. "I think if I had to describe it, just the joy to be able to do what I love to do, number one – and number two, to do it with the people that you really want to be around... Just being here and the extra time that we've put in watching film, doing all the necessary things to be great. I think that's been the joy of it, man. That's why you love the game, the obsession of it all. That's the good part." Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston recently gave the team a new motto of "more giggles, more laughter, more fun," and that seems to be the case so far for Wilson in the Big Apple. The Giants were dead last in the NFC East in 2024 with a 3-14 record, but Winston also said that this team does not have the look of that kind of team. Wilson finished this past season with 16 touchdowns on just five interceptions with the Pittsburgh Steelers, so he showed that he can still get the job done. Advertisement New York has only made the playoffs twice in the last 10 seasons, so Wilson and Winston will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason. Giants Emulating Past Championship Teams in 2025

Giants Emulating Past Championship Teams in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI, they used a specific formula to pull off each upset. Advertisement It's the same formula the 2025 team hopes to use this season. In 2007 and 2011, the Giants were not considered a true Super Bowl contender during the regular season. Quarterback Eli Manning was a solid starter but was very inconsistent, and their pass defense left much to be desired as well. Despite all the mediocre numbers surrounding those teams, New York relied on an overwhelming pass rush to suffocate opponents. From Michael Strahan to Justin Tuck to Jason Pierre-Paul, the Giants attacked opponents in waves along their defensive line. In both Super Bowl wins over the Patriots, New York sacked Tom Brady a combined seven times while harassing him throughout the contests with multiple hits and pressures. Advertisement It has been a long time since the Giants have had that kind of relentless pass rush, but they are hoping the current group can match some of that success this season. With the addition of third-overall pick Abdul Carter, the G-Men have a trio of edge rushers (Kayvon Thibodeau and Brian Burns included) that can make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks. Add an All-Pro defensive tackle in Dexter Lawrence to the equation, and New York's front four can make an argument as the best in football. All these edge rushers may not be good enough to get the Giants to the Super Bowl. But the team is finally starting to learn an important lesson that their past Super Bowl rosters have taught. It could inevitably send them back on that title path once again. Chiefs' 'Power Triangle' Key To Super Bowl Hopes

Chiefs' 'Power Triangle' Key To Super Bowl Hopes originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs in 2025 are going to be an interesting watch, with many waiting for Andy Reid's team to fall into the chasing pack in the AFC. Advertisement The Super Bowl loss has been the catalyst for that thought, but let's not forget that the Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes and a host of talented players on both sides of the ball. Not to mention the coaching staff. And it is here that Kansas City, according to ESPN's Tim Hasselbeck, still has an advantage over the rest of the NFL. When assessing the Chiefs' chances in 2025, Hasselbeck, who was a guest on NFL Live, thinks three key personnel will determine their success. 'You can always look at these teams in Kansas City and say the receivers haven't played well, the offensive line is not perfect, it's been easy to find segments of the roster that you look at and you say there are other teams that can take advantage of that or [are] better than," Hasselbeck said. Advertisement "But what Kansas City does have is the power triangle of probably the best head coach, arguably the best quarterback, and probably the best defensive coordinator in football. So when you have that, even when you have some areas of your football team that need a little work or maybe you didn't address the way you wanted to in the offseason, you're going to have a chance.' A "power triangle''? We bet Chiefs fans are buying this. Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid talks with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images Reid and Mahomes as a duo have proved to be elite over the past six or so years, and as for Steve Spagnuolo and his defense, they always have a knack for making "the" play at "the" time. Advertisement In total, the defense held teams under 20 points 10 times in the regular season last year, including a run of five straight games. Having seemingly transitioned to being a more defensive run team instead of Mahomes lighting up the scoreboard, the Chiefs want to even out that dynamic. With their "power triangle" key to bouncing back in 2025.
