President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Pakistan's highest civil awards on several distinguished citizens, including the late former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, in recognition of their excellence, contributions, and remarkable achievements across various fields.
In a prestigious ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Sadr, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Pakistan's highest civilian honors, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, to the late former Prime Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. His daughter, Sanam Bhutto, received the award on his behalf, marking a significant moment in the country's history.
The ceremony, attended by notable figures such as Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, celebrated those who have made remarkable contributions in various fields.
Among the honorees was Air Marshal (Retd.) Raja Shahid Hamid, who was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz for his exemplary service. Sultan Ali Akbar Allana received the Nishan-e-Khidmat for his impactful work in the financial sector.
The Hilal-e-Imtiaz was awarded to several individuals for their extraordinary contributions, including Javed Jabbar for literature, Allah Rakhi Shaheed for her service to education, and Dr. Syed Tauqeer Hussain Shah for his excellence in civil service.
Syed Ali Haider Gilani was recognized for his public service, and Hussain Dawood was honored for his philanthropic efforts. Sadia Rashid also received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz for her significant work in the education sector.
Further honors were granted to Khawaja Anwar Majeed for social work, and Professor Dr. Shehryar and Dr. Zaryab for their achievements in medicine.
Amir Hafeez Ibrahim was awarded for his contributions to science and IT, while Jimmy Engineer was celebrated for his outstanding social services. Umar Farooq was also recognized for his continuous dedication to public service.

PPP urges govt to increase salaries, EOBI pension

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) urged the federal government to increase 50 percent salaries of government employees and 100 percent pension of EOBI (Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution) in the coming budget-2025-26. Addressing at a news conference on Tuesday, PPP senior leader and Central In-charge Labour Chaundry Manzoor Ahmad said that according to a World Bank survey, 44 percent of Pakistan's population are living under poverty line. He urged the government to minimum increase 50 percent in the salaries of government employees and 100 percent increase in the EOBI pension. He said that the government should fix Rs 50,000 wage of a labourer and an industrial worker. Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed said that he had informed President Asif Ali Zardari about the problems and demands of workers and government employees during a meeting last week, to which, President Zardari had said that the development of society is not possible without providing relief to the workers. He said that the PPP has always taken steps to raise the standard of living of the workers and employed class. He demanded that the government should withdraw all measures taken in name of pension reforms. He said that workers' welfare and EOBI funds in Punjab should not be used in any other provincial project, as only workers and their families have the right to these funds. The PPP leader said that the government should clearly announce that it will not privatise or outsource PIA, Civil Aviation, WAPDA, OGDCL, other national institutions and provincial schools, colleges, hospitals and local government institutions of Punjab. He said that the government should withdraw the decision to close Utility Stores and PWD. PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed announced that the office bearers and workers of the People's Labour Bureau and Trade Unions will participate in the protest demonstration of government employees in front of the Parliament House on Tuesday (today) at 2 pm. RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Asim Munir visited forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) to celebrate Eidul Azha with frontline troops. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the visit commenced with Eid prayers, during which special supplications were made for Pakistan's enduring peace, stability, and prosperity as well as for martyrs who made supreme sacrifice for the defence of their motherland. Extending warm Eid greetings to the officers and soldiers, the Field Marshal commended their unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and steadfast service in the face of persistent challenges. The COAS expressed that celebrating Eid on the frontline away from their families serves the superior national purpose of defending the motherland at all costs throughout the year. Field Marshal Asim Munir lauded the formation's exemplary performance during Marka-e-Haq, Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and paid solemn tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis whose sacrifices continue to fortify the nation's security and resolve. COAS said, 'You have befittingly avenged the loss of lives of innocent Pakistani civilians including children, women and elderly through your bold and effective response.' While interacting with troops, COAS expressed deep appreciation for their high morale, exceptional operational readiness, and resolute vigilance in responding effectively to Indian ceasefire violations. He reiterated complete confidence in the battle preparedness of the armed forces to decisively deter and defeat any act of aggression. Underscoring Pakistan's principled stance, the Field Marshal affirmed that the just and valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation will never be forgotten. He emphasized the need for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with the aspirations of its people and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Upon arrival at the LoC, the COAS was received by the Commander, Rawalpindi Corps.
