AMRITSAR : Indian Railways is reportedly conducting a feasibility study to connect the five Sikh Takhts—a move that could ease travel, reduce journey time, and allow devotees to visit at their convenience to fulfil their religious aspirations, as the current connectivity makes each journey difficult and full of inconveniences. 'The Five Takhts are the seats of Sikh power, history, and spiritual authority, but there is no direct connection between them,' said Sikh politico-religious observer S. Parshotam. . He said travel from Amritsar to Patna, Bathinda to Nanded, or Anandpur Sahib to Takht Damdama Sahib is a test of endurance—detours, delays, poor waiting facilities, and multiple connecting trains. "There is no straight route and no guaranteed service", added he. Notably, Sikhs across India and abroad want to visit all five Takhts—not once in a lifetime, but when they choose. They wish to pay obeisance, fulfil religious duties, and stay rooted in the legacy of their Gurus, but the system doesn't allow it easily. Stating that the Railways currently runs special trains only during major festivals or events—such as Gurpurabs and anniversaries—but this service is neither regular, reliable, nor sufficient, railway affairs expert P.C. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Desert Order Undo Sharma informed that a feasibility study is underway to establish city-to-city links, aimed at shortening travel time and increasing comfort. 'But plans don't carry passengers. Proposals don't reduce fatigue. It has to translate on the ground,' he said. A railways official here who didn't wish to give his name said, 'The extension of the Mumbai-Jalna Vande Bharat Express to Nanded represents a landmark achievement in improving connectivity to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. The Delhi-Amritsar Vande Bharat Express has revolutionised connectivity to the Golden Temple and Akal Takht, providing high-speed rail service that connects the national capital with Punjab's spiritual heart. This service enables devotees from Delhi and Northern India to visit Amritsar with unprecedented comfort and efficiency.' 'What Sikhs are asking is simple. A regular rail service that links the five Takhts. Not luxury. Not tourism. Just respect for religious practice. Just a route that makes sense,' said Purshotam adding that despite an ongoing feasibility study , its report is yet to come. When it comes to the biggest railway station in India, many people immediately think of Delhi or Mumbai. But this is not true. The country's biggest railway station is neither in Delhi nor in Mumbai. The biggest station in the country has 23 platforms, with more than 280 trains arriving and departing from here daily. Thousands of passengers are bustling around here at all times. This station is not just a stop for trains, but it is also a thriving city, with a new story being born every minute. We are discussing Howrah Junction in West Bengal, the largest railway station in the country, located on the western bank of the Hooghly River, the main railway station of Kolkata city. It has 23 platforms, with more than 600,000 daily passengers, making it the busiest station in India. Every day, more than 280 trains pass through this station, including major trains, namely, the Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express, and Shatabdi Express. This station is a major connection that links eastern, southern India to the rest of the country. In 1854, Howrah Junction was formed under British rule, with services commencing fully in 1906, and its building and services have gradually improved over time. Currently, the station sprawls across in excess of 70 acres, with services and amenities that include WiFi, food courts, and waiting rooms. Despite this, the railway authorities have to continually deal with managing large crowds and traffic in this station. The volume of trains and passengers is very high day in and day out, so congestion is normal in this station. Recently, the railway has been changing and implementing things such as the number of platforms, and making digital ticket purchasing in advance easier. There are ideas to modernise Howrah Junction further in the next few years, with modern amenities, including a more integrated campus for high-speed rail. Howrah Junction is an invaluable place in the modern world for travelers as well as for tourists. The station has an unimaginable scale (with interesting features) and has significant historical architecture. The surrounding markets and the natural beauty of the Howrah Bridge make it all the more better.
