Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones and her husband, television producer David Peet, have revealed they are now legally separated.
In a joint statement shared with the PA news agency, the couple said: 'We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends.
'Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.'
Jones and Peet married in 1999 and collaborated on various projects over the years, most notably Gavin and Stacey, which Jones co-wrote and starred in alongside James Corden.
The beloved BBC sitcom originally aired from 2007 to 2010, with several Christmas specials following – the most recent and final episode broadcast on Christmas Day 2024.
It drew record viewership as it brought the series to a close with the long-anticipated wedding of Jones's character, Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins, and Neil 'Smithy' Smith, played by Corden.
At the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards, Jones was honoured with the award for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme for her role in the finale.

Jeff Brazier opens up on son's 'challenging' diagnosis at just 10 years old Jeff Brazier has candidly opened up about his son Freddie's ADHD diagnosis, recalling how he had found things 'challenging' beforehand Jeff Brazier returned to TV screens in a segment on The One Show on Wednesday (18th June), where he discussed ADHD and met with those who have been diagnosed with the disorder. The TV star, who is a regular on shows such as This Morning, met with families whose children had been diagnosed with ADHD. ‌ Broadcaster Nicky Campbell, who was diagnosed with ADHD herself at around 60, also featured in the segment. ‌ As Jeff geared up to meet a mum whose daughter had been diagnosed with ADHD, he spoke about his son Freddie's diagnosis, which came at a young age. "My son was diagnosed with ADHD at 10 years old. School was really challenging," the dad-of-two said. "But, his diagnosis helped me understand better that he needed support." "My son was described, compassionately, as a Ferrari engine in the chassis of a Mini," Jeff laughed, as the guest shared a similar story. Jeff, who is also father to Bobby, 22, spoke about Freddie's diagnosis when the father and son duo appeared on Celebrity Race Across the World last year. ‌ Speaking about his son on the BBC show, Jeff said: "I couldn't hazard a guess on how Fred's mind works but I know he's going to do something amazing in his lifetime. "We need the pioneers, we need the people that give a completely different opinion. That's what Fred's role is gonna be. And I see it. I've always seen it and I look forward to him realising it, one day it's all gonna click and fall into place." Jeff with his youngest son Freddie (Image: BBC ) ‌ Freddie recently revealed he's also been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. The 20-year-old appeared in a TikTok video where he spoke about his mental health struggles and shared advice for those struggling with epilepsy as he does. "Just coming on to say that seizures - or any illness - shouldn't be made a joke or something to laugh about," he said in the clip. He then revealed: "Me myself, I suffer from serious mental health, and I've got ADHD and bipolar. And it's not nice when people want to belittle you or talk down on you because of it." Ruth Jones' estranged husband 'dating Gavin and Stacey actress lookalike'

Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones and estranged husband David Peet released a statement confirming their split on Wednesday, revealing they 'remain good friends' Ruth Jones' estranged husband, David Peet, has reportedly moved on with an education assistant who looks eerily similar to the Gavin and Stacey actress. Former couple David and Ruth, who are legally separated but "remain good friends", released a statement on Wednesday on their decision to split after 26 years of marriage. In a statement shared with the PA news agency, they said: "We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends. Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship." ‌ READ MORE: 'Brilliant' air cooling fan that keeps homes cool during the heatwave slashed from £150 to £40 ‌ Ruth was a step-mum to David's three children from a previous marriage. And now, it has been revealed David's new girlfriend is an education assistant named Jayne Charity Cook. She made her relationship with the TV producer public on her Facebook page and even shared a picture of the two getting cosy for her profile picture. Jayne captioned her profile picture with three green heart emojis. Meanwhile, Ruth and David first met when they were both filming a pilot of a BBC comedy in the early 90s. At the time, David was married, with Ruth later explaining that there had been an overlap with their relationship. She said: "Affairs cause a lot of pain; they're not something one aspires to do. You don't aspire to cause pain to people in their life." But David and Ruth talked to each other on the phone before meeting one another, with Ruth, 58, previously explaining to The Scotsman: "It was love at first voice because I spoke to [him] on the phone before I met him." ‌ While she rarely shared an insight into her relationship with him, she said in 2008: "He has a very sharp mind combined with a dry Yorkshire wit, making him a naturally funny man." The two lived in Cardiff and established a production company called Tidy Productions, which created Gavin & Stacey. She also previously discussed her views on children. Ruth told the Daily Mail: "It just didn't happen. It wasn't a decision. I don't have a burning desire to have babies. I think it's heartbreaking if you do and you find out you can't have them. I love being a stepmum — all the joy of motherhood without the pain of childbirth." ‌ And she told The Scotsman of the "joys of parenthood without giving birth" that she adores her role as a stepmum. She gushed: "You take things as they come. "There wasn't a moment when I thought, 'I've become a stepmum now.' We never had any difficulty with teenage angst, and now I'm looking forward to becoming a step-grandmother at some point."
