MLB investigates after wife of Giants' Sean Hjelle alleges ‘abuse' in TikTok video
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said club officials have talked to Major League Baseball about allegations of abuse made by the wife of pitcher Sean Hjelle.
MLB is investigating claims made by Caroline Hjelle, who on Friday posted a TikTok of herself with the couple's two children. It included the caption: 'When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after [this video was taken] once I finally found out about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I've been raising two boys alone.'
She added hashtags that included #divorce and #cheating.
'Obviously, we're aware of it. He told me about it last night,' Melvin told reporters on Saturday. 'We've talked to MLB, and at this point, it's in their jurisdiction so we can't comment on it any further.'
MLB investigates such cases as part of its Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
Hjelle said after San Francisco's 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday that he and his wife are in the process of divorcing.
'I don't have an official comment right now,' Hjelle told reporters. 'I would like to actually talk with my agent, my lawyer. This has been something that's been going on for over a year now in terms of our relationship and our divorce and our separation and everything ... I just want to talk to the appropriate people and figure out what the steps are. Just kind of taking it in stride right now.
'So no comment right now. I feel confident saying that I will have one eventually. I don't have an exact timeline on that, but I would like to actually get with the people that are handling the situation with me and for me before I actually make an official statement.'
The 28-year-old is in his fourth season with the Giants. A right-handed reliever, he is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in six appearances. He remains eligible to pitch during the investigation.

Tommy Fleetwood makes disappointing start at Travelers Championship
Tommy Fleetwood saw hopes of a maiden PGA Tour victory dented after a sluggish start to his final round at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. The Englishman had opened up a three-shot lead following a flawless 63 on Saturday, sitting at 16-under par. Fleetwood, though, found the going tough when heading back out at TPC River Highlands looking to stay clear of the chasing pack – which included American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Russell Henley. After starting with five before swiftly getting that shot back with a birdie, successive bogeys followed to see Fleetwood's advantage eaten away as Bradley had also made a three at the par-four second. Fleetwood, though, then got himself back clear at the top of the leaderboard after making a par five on the sixth, after which Bradley knocked in for a bogey to drop back to 13 under alongside Henley.
