GrabFood rider delivers stunning piano performance at Tanjong Pagar MRT

New Paper6 days ago
A video of a GrabFood delivery rider who stopped to deliver a showstopping performance on a piano at Tanjong Pagar MRT Station has warmed the cockles of netizens' hearts.
The rider's rendition of From The Beginning Until Now from the soundtrack of popular 2002 K-drama Winter Sonata was shared in a reel by TikTokker binbin6364 on July 25 and has been viewed almost 360,000 times.
It has also received 22,000 reactions and 1,960 comments at press time, and was subsequently shared on Reddit.
In the first two minutes and 43 seconds of the clip, he misses a few notes, falters at one stage and repeats a phrase
However, the blunders were more indicative of a lack of practice than proficiency, and the performance clearly touched the small crowd which had gathered.
Most netizens seemed impressed and many commented that they loved the piece.
TGIFTGIFTGIFTGIFTGIF said on TikTok: "There are lots of degree holder(s) and talented guys in Singapore do grab."
Tianmingren82 suggested he could play in a hotel lounge: "Actually this guy if he tries to apply to work in a hotel as a live pianist, he might get accepted, better income, better working environment. His talent will be fully appreciated. I wish him all the best."
Others recognised the plight of the struggling artist or felt he was wasting his talent delivering food instead of playing music.
"This proves that delivering food is more profitable than being a musician," said superboss2727, also on TikTok.
Pr0ud.mvslimah chimed in: "Whoever You Are Thank You For The Wonderful Piece. It's Sooo Beautiful."
There were humorous comments as well.
Redditor sphqxe, in reference to the GrabFood pianist's crash helmet, mask and gloves, remarked: "Good to see that he was wearing the appropriate protective gear for playing piano."
Or this one from resilent83: "No wonder my order always delay."
And a variation on the same theme from Mohamed Fauzan: "Bro where is my order?"
Commenter nurazmeonly4 provided the counterpoint: "I think he have stack orders so while waiting for another order to process and ready for pick up... he just went next door to play piano first lah.. don't criticise him for his talent."
There were words of encouragement too.
Kelvin Duke offered: "While working in GrabFood. Please pursue your dream and go for your passion. Don't lose your dreams! I believe you have hidden talents! Keep it going! All my best wishes for you Bruh."
And user4431348358166 said: "His parents must have invested in his piano learning sessions for him to play so well…. THANKS FOR THE LOVELY N BEAUTIFUL MUSIC...TALENTED MAN."

SHOCKING: Giant Octopus Attacks Young Boy at Texas Aquarium, Stares at Him from Glass Tank

In a shocking incident, an Octopus attacked a boy, 6, at the San Antonio Aquarium in Texas while the child was observing it at an interactive exhibit. The aquatic animal clung to her son and tried coming out of the glass tank, according to the boy's mother, Britney Taryn. Taryn said that the employees initially brushed off the incident when she yelled for help. The worker who walked over said the aquatic animal was "super playful" that day. Taryn then said it took nearly five minutes and three workers to get the Octopus from the boy, Leo. Taryn shared several videos and photos of the giant Pacific octopus on TikTok, describing the incident. The social media post went viral online, with two of them garnering over a million views. A few of the photos show purple bruises on Leo's hands. The mother said her son remained calm throughout the encounter. "It was suctioned onto him, and so I tried to help him get down and away from the glass. The octopus started to come out, up over the glass. My friend and I were not sure what to do. There were no employees around, so we started yelling for help. The employee came up and just said, 'Oh, she's super playful today.' And then he could not get the octopus off. He was very relaxed about the whole thing, so I was relaxed because he knows so much about animals, about octopuses", the mother told KSAT. Taryn said the Octopus turned white and came too close to her child. Later, the mother contacted the Texas State Aquarium, and they suggested she reach out to the United States Department of Agriculture. She filed an animal welfare complaint with the department. The department informed her that Octopuses are not subject to AWA regulations because they are not covered under the Animal Welfare Act. Taryn contacted the aquarium several times to inform them about the visit and check if any changes had been made. The mother said she just wanted to know if the authorities moved the Octopus, or made any positive changes, since the aquarium never contacted her back. She also reached out to multiple aquariums in the country. "I'm just worried something worse is going to happen... I don't want anything to happen to any more kids, any adults. I don't want anything to happen to the octopus. So we're just trying to help. We would love to see [the octopus] at a rescue, where it can live out the rest of its life", the mother shared. Frilled octopus Alaska Octopus Projects The San Antonio Aquarium posted a video of the giant Pacific octopus on TikTok, several days after the incident. The video shows the employee touching the Octopus named Cthulhu and explaining its suction cup. "I promise it's not a cosmic cry for help... bruises or hickeys will disappear within seven to 14 days. They're not harmful or anything like that. If she really wanted to, she could totally bite me. She just loves people", the employee says in a video posted on TikTok. The official website of the San Antonio Aquarium lists an Animal Encounters exhibit. It is a place where children can touch and interact with several animals, including armadillos, penguins, octopuses, and lemurs. "Guests are encouraged to hand-feed some of our animals and pet them with a gentle two-finger touch on their back", the website stated.

Influencer under fire responds to viral Reddit post: 'I won't sacrifice family for content'

An Instagrammer collaborating with a toy store at Suntec City has come under criticism after a Reddit post accused her of treating her family like "props" during a content shoot. In a post titled A Rant, Reddit user swagswagweout recounted their experience while shopping at Simply Toys. "So I was at Simply Toys, just browsing around, when I noticed a lady filming content for what looked like Instagram/TikTok," the post began. "She had her husband filming her at different angles, and her kids were kind of just playing around," said the Redditor. "At first, I didn't think much of it-until the cameras stopped rolling. The whole vibe changed. "She was snapping at her husband for not getting the 'right angles', scolding her kids for 'ruining shots', and even yelling at them for running around and having fun in a toy store. Like... it was so uncomfortable to watch. The user also expressed concern about how the woman's children were being treated. "It honestly made me feel so sad. Social media fame might look glamorous on screen, but behind the scenes, it really seemed like her husband and kids were being treated like props and a film crew, not like family," the post continued. "I get that content creation is a hustle and can be a legit job, but it really puts into perspective how some people sacrifice their relationships for an aesthetic. Kids deserve to just be kids, not supporting actors in a feed." The user went on to say that while likes and views are temporary, "the way we treat the people we love leaves a permanent impact". They added: "Hope she can treat her family with more kindness and love." Netizens divided over incident The post has since drawn mixed reactions online. Some Redditors criticised the Instagrammer's behaviour, calling it a symptom of performative consumerism. "I think most of us know how social media works, show only the fake happy side but we won't know what's really happening behind the scenes," said a Redditor named jubiters. Others, however, called out the original poster for being overly judgmental. "Not everyone walks the same path and OP needs to be less judgemental," said Redditor Available-Log6733. "The few minutes of observation of the family by OP does not define them." Another Redditor claiming to know the Instagrammer, user Happyandfab, said the post unfairly portrayed the mother. "I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I feel it's unfair to single out a mother like this, especially by posting her and her daughter's photos publicly just to shame her," they said. "I know this family personally. They're genuinely loving and close, and the kids actually enjoy helping out and being part of her content. Like any mum, she sometimes needs to be firm or give directions, especially when filming in public with excited kids. That doesn't mean she doesn't love them or that they're unhappy." Influencer responds to backlash When contacted by The New Paper, 41-year-old Ezane Tan said she was grateful for the opportunity to clarify the situation. "Family is everything to me, and every campaign I take on is filtered through that lens," said Ms Tan, a mother of two girls, aged 10 and 6. She said her husband and children are actively involved in the planning process and know they're "valued collaborators, not props". "Yes, I get serious on set because I want to model to my children what showing up fully and respecting commitments looks like - but off camera, it's all love, laughter and growth." Ms Tan said she even showed the Reddit post to her 10-year-old daughter. "My daughter... was upset; she wanted to fight back. This has actually become a teachable moment - about cyberbullying, about choosing which battles deserve your mental energy, and about holding on to self-worth even when things feel unfair," she said. "My parenting style is to be very transparent," she explained. "When I fail, when I am down, I share with my family. I believe this will teach them to understand that parents are not unbeatable. This also lets her become very open with her own emotions to us. Which is what we want to achieve as parents." She added: "Nothing is worth damaging our bond or letting negativity define us. Kids should absolutely be allowed to be kids, and I'd never sacrifice our bond for content." Ms Tan said her work as a content creator is a side hustle, but declined to reveal her full-time profession. Simply Toys also weighed in, commenting on Ezane's Instagram post to defend her. "Staff on duty on that day of filming didn't think she was fierce to her family members. Perhaps because the way she spoke may have been a bit loud and fast with urgency as she didn't want to disturb the shop's operations. Hence, this act unknowingly might come across as being fierce and seen as scolding her family members," the store wrote. "We speak for Ezane as a loving mum after working with her for the past 2 years." Support also came from fellow Instagram user who, in response to a comment that Ms Tan was famous now, said: "Famous for being a loving mum, hardworking and positive. It's sad that someone would take a single moment, snap a photo without context and try to tear her down. "If one really knew her, you'd see how much she cares for her family and how her kids genuinely love being part of what she does. Filming with kids isn't easy, and sometimes mums need to give directions. That doesn't make them bad parents." Ms Tan said she plans to release a detailed post explaining her creative process and how her children are protected during collaborations.
