Girl, 15, mauled to death by pack of rescue dogs while attempting to feed them

WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT Makayla Fortner, 15, was mauled to death by the pack of around 40 dogs, including pit bulls, as she tried to feed the neglected animals
A teenage girl was tragically killed while attempting to feed about 30 to 40 neglected rescue dogs.
The dogs were being held at an enclosed on a property in Alexander, Arkansas when the Saline County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the scene of the horrific attack at around 12:15pm on Wednesday. Upon arrival officers found 15 year old Makayla Fortner lifeless.

Ralph Murphy, a neighbour, witnessed the first officer on the scene firing his pistol several times to drive the dogs back from the fence. "I watched a Saline County deputy come out and go up to the fence, and a bunch of dogs ran up to the fence," Murphy remarked.

"He pulled out his pistol and shot into the ground twice, and the dogs ran. Then he walked over and looked down and turned around and walked back. Then I moved and saw a body on the ground," he shared.
Benton Animal Services spokesperson Matt Thibault conveyed that the dogs in question included pit bulls, their crossbreeds, and hounds. Following the tragedy, officials told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that 14 of the dogs were put down, whilst four other dogs which were inside the house at the time of the incident were spared.
Local residents had voiced their increasing apprehension due to the issue with the roaming pack of dogs, regularly lodging complaints to officials in Saline County about the dogs being let loose in the neighbourhood, reports the Mirror US.
Despite their grievances, county officials have consistently told exasperated locals that their hands are tied when it comes to tackling the issue. One resident labelled the dogs as so "vicious" that "no one felt safe allowing their children to walk to and from the bus stop.

"When they moved in, all the neighbours were very upset. They moved in with a huge amount of dogs and a large amount of broken vehicles," Heidi Clay remarked. She continued: "This was a beautiful young girl who lost her life because these people did not properly take care of their dogs and have a hoarding issue."
In the days leading up to the tragic incident, Wilkie posted on Facebook about her and her daughter's efforts to look after over 40 puppies at an elderly couple's home. On June 8 she shared: "As usual, I found myself in a hoarding situation involving an older couple in their 80s who had too many dogs," highlighting that there were "puppies everywhere, more than 40, with a new litter born today."
A friend of the victim's mum, Stephanie Wilkie, set up a GoFundMe page to aid the family and contribute towards funeral costs. "On behalf of my dear friend Stephanie Wilkie, I am heartbroken to share the devastating news that her beloved 15-year-old daughter, Makayla Fortner, tragically passed away following a horrific dog attack," organiser Erin Bowman wrote on the page.

Miracle as boy SURVIVES three days trapped at bottom of ravine after 240ft plunge

Dakota "Cody" Trenkle Jr had a skateboarding accident near his grandmother's home in Goose Creek Lake, Missouri, and became trapped down the ravine as a result A 13-year-old boy somehow survived for three days trapped down a huge ravine following a skateboarding accident. ‌ Rescue teams desperately searched for Dakota "Cody" Trenkle Jr after he became stuck down the 240ft ditch near his grandmother's home in Goose Creek Lake, Missouri. The teenager went without food or water for three days before a K-9 unit found him, and he was airlifted to hospital. ‌ As Dakota was put into medically induced coma, his mother Stephanie Neely maintained a bedside vigil for nearly two weeks and, against all odds, the youngster pulled through yesterday - and is set to be removed off his ventilator. Stephanie, 29, said: "Yesterday I felt like we were in a good place." ‌ Recalling the moment her sister found Dakota, an emotional Stephanie said: "I heard my sister go over the radio saying, 'We found him, we found him. He's alive.'... I broke down in the middle of the street, bawling hysterically, just trying to make my way down to where they had found him." Dakota, who survived dehydration during his ordeal, may soon be moved to a rehabilitation facility. He may require surgery but Stephanie, who has two other boys, says the picture looks far more hopeful than it did days ago. Her son, the eldest of her brood, was by chance shaded by a large bush in the ravine. Stephanie, who works in a prison, continued: "He ended up landing underneath some pretty thick brush, which helped shade him from the sun during the heat warning. "He was lying in five inches of water, which helped maintain his body temperature, and his body probably absorbed some of that water, even though he came in extremely dehydrated." He can speak, but speech patterns are delayed due to brain injuries, and he's experiencing short-term memory loss. His mum added: "I believe that it's going to be a long road of recovery with therapies. "Even when he's done with inpatient, he's still going to have a lot of outpatient therapies with physical and occupational, but I believe at the end of that road, he can be mostly normal. We're just taking it day by day and hoping that he keeps making small progress in the right direction." The family, who are from Potosi, Missouri, are now crowdfunding to help support Dakota's recovery. To support the GoFundMe appeal, you can donate using this link.

LA schoolboy seized by ICE while walking his dog...then agents 'untied pet and let it run onto busy road'

A high school student who allegedly overstayed his visa was seized by masked immigration officers while walking his family dog in Los Angeles. Benjamin Guerrero-Cruz, 18, was walking through his Van Nuys neighborhood last week when he was taken into custody. The agents allegedly tied the dog to a tree and unclipped its collar, allowing it to run loose onto Sepulveda Boulevard, according to a GoFundMe seeking support for the family's legal fees. It is unclear what happened to the dog afterwards. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents also joked during his arrest that 'thanks to him, they get to drink this weekend', the crowdfunder alleges. Guerrero-Cruz's family says they were shocked when the teen failed to return home with their dog and initially struggled to obtain information about his whereabouts. They later learned he was being held at a detention center in the LA area in what his family described as unhygienic conditions. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed Guerrero-Cruz, originally from Chile, in in their custody 'pending removal'. DHS states the teen 'abused' the visa waiver program under which he entered the country. Officials claim Guerrero-Cruz was required to leave the US in March 2023 but 'overstayed his visa by more than two years'. Guerrero-Cruz was arrested on August 8, just days after he celebrated his 18th birthday. The teen was expected to start his senior year at Reseda Charter High School this month. But instead of resuming school with his peers and soccer teammates, he is being held in ICE custody until he is deported. His mother claims he is being kept in a 'cramped holding cell' with roughly 50 men who are much older than him, KTLA reports. He allegedly does not have access to 'basic hygiene, warmth, or adequate food'. 'He has only water, and since being detained, he has not had proper access to a bathroom, there are just two toilets for everyone to share. He is cold, scared, and one of the youngest there,' his loved ones allege. Guerrero-Cruz helps care of his 5-month-old twin brothers and his 6-year-old brother, according to the GoFundMe. Those who know him say he is a 'devoted son, caring brother, loyal friend, and a valued member of our community'. 'He is a good student, with a kind heart, who has always stepped up for his family,' the campaign adds. The family has secured legal counsel through the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, but Guerrero-Cruz's loved ones are still urging others to 'rally on his behalf'. 'We call upon mothers and educators of conscience to join with us and call for Benjamin's immediate release & declare that our kids belong in classrooms, not cages!' a GoFundMe update posted Thursday reads. Daily Mail has approached DHS and ICE for comment. Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Alberto Carvalho (pictured during a press conference Thursday) highlighted the poor conditions the teen is allegedly enduring in ICE custody Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Alberto Carvalho has been in contact with the teen's mother, The Los Angeles Times reports. Carvalho, during a Thursday press conference, also highlighted the poor conditions the teen is allegedly enduring. 'He is 18 years old, but he's a kid. He has not been exposed to anything in his life,' the superintendent said. 'He drinks water once a day. The food is insufficient. Mom said that there was not enough room for everybody to sit or lie down at the same time.' Players on Guerrero-Cruz's soccer team have also expressed their heartbreak by his sudden disappearance. 'On the field, he was rock-solid—always showed up, worked hard, and could be counted on week after week,' his friend Ronny said in a statement published on the GoFundMe campaign. 'Off the field, he was just as reliable: kind, respectful, and someone who lifted up the people around him. He brought consistency, heart, and a quiet strength that made the team better in every way.' Outrage over Guerrero-Cruz's detention comes as ICE faces intense scrutiny over its immigration crackdown. A man fleeing from a raid at a Home Depot in Monrovia, a LA County city in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, was killed Thursday after he fled into a busy highway. The unidentified migrant had jumped a concrete wall shortly after the agents arrived at the scene, fled on foot, entered the freeway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Witnesses say he was still alive and 'still moving' shortly after being hit. Disturbing footage shared online showed a man standing in the road hitchhiking as the migrant could be seen lying on the ground motionless. He was then sent to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
