'I don't know Bushiri' — Rebecca Malope sets the record straight
Gospel singer Rebecca Malope has addressed rumours surrounding her alleged visit to fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi.
After MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu's visit to the church on Easter Friday, images and videos of the pastor posted by Rebecca on social media had users speculating she too was among the congregation.
Rebecca, who was booked to perform at Carnival City during the Easter weekend, has denied the claims, expressing her frustration and hurt over the false accusations.
Rebecca explained that two years ago, she performed at a concert in Malawi, which was booked by a promoter, not the church. During the event, Bushiri attended her concert, and she acknowledged his presence on stage, thanking him for his support.
'Two years ago, I had a concert in Malawi and was booked by a promoter, not at the church. When he entered, I heard the crowed make a lot of noise and they said it's Bushiri. I had heard that he's a big fan so when I was on stage I saw him sitting in front and I could not ignore someone who came to my concert to support me and I thanked him for his support. I was even amazed that he was there,' she told TshisaLIVE.
'I have never been to his church in South Africa or in Malawi, I don't even know what it looks like. He's invited me so many times but I always have my own excuse because I know where I stand with God.'
The speculation has caused many social media trolls to hurl insults at her.
'I believe in the true living God. People must stop insulting me now. I don't even know Bushiri. He's invited me many times. If it was for money for what I do, I would have been to his churches many times.
'I feel so hurt that they can go to an extent of insulting me. I don't care about people lying but they must just not insult me.'
