For actor Eijaz Khan, Eid means food, family and cherished memories

Hindustan Times07-06-2025
For me, Eid is about valuing relationships in life,' shares actor Eijaz Khan. He believes festivals bring families together. 'When you lose people in life, you tend to value festivities more; it's only then we truly get to be with our loved ones. Otherwise, everyone is busy in their own 'race''.
'Eid always brings overwhelming and emotional moments in abundance,' Eijaz continues. 'Even though you don't have people around you, like I lost my mum, I still miss her. Or my sister Suriya, who lives in Saudi, but we never forget to call her on the festivities.'
This year the actor will have extended Eid-al-Adha festivities: 'One of my nieces is going to France for studies, so I've planned an after-Eid party on Sunday. That way, none of us can make the excuse of being busy with work. Also, I am travelling to be with my sister and her kids. I'll be in festive and family mode from Eid until July.'
He credits his diverse roots for his Eid special dastarkhwan being a mix of the best delicacies. 'From Hyderabad, Solapur to Mumbai, you will find everything on our Eid special platter, courtesy of my chachi, my abba, and my brother, who are our family chefs. Among all recipes, my favourite is chari daal with khopra (coconut) chutney and shami kebabs with a curd filling. My mouth waters just thinking about the food. I try to be in the kitchen with them throughout, so I know how much effort it takes to prepare all these delicacies

Salman Khan fans school AR Murugadoss after Sikandar director's remarks on Bhai, ‘As if his script was out of the world'

AR Murugadoss' comments about Salman Khan have not gone well with many social media users. In a recent interview, the Sikandar director revealed the struggles of working with Khan. He said Salman Khan often came late, so even day scenes were filmed at night. The crew, used to early mornings, had to wait till 8 PM or later. Shooting mostly happened indoors, with heavy use of VFX to make night shots look like daylight. Murugadoss shared that constant changes were also suggested on set, adding to the pressure. Late-night shoots were hardest for child actors, who had to stay awake for scenes at 2 AM. Many became tired and even fell asleep. At the same time, the filmmaker took responsibility for Sikandar's failure at the box office. 'The story was emotional, but I couldn't execute it well," he said. Salman Khan fans are now slamming the director on social media. 'Salman Khan was going through a major personal crisis during the shooting of Sikandar. He was getting threats, his close friend Baba Siddique was killed and even his health wasn't the best. This was known to everyone yet he kept his commitment towards 'Sikandar' and AR Murugadoss. He had already explained his working hours to the director. So, this sudden dig by Murugadoss feels terribly opportunistic and hypocritical. And he himself has only been giving FLOPS for many years,' came a sharp tweet. 'AR Murugadoss tried to blame Superstar for Darbar's failure, citing his political entry as the reason. Now, he's blaming Salman Khan as if his script was out of the world in Sikandar,' commented one user. Another user remarked, 'All know about Salman Khan's attitude & working style, but blaming him only after a film fails isn't fair. If Sikandar flops only because of Salman, then what about Darbar & Spyder?' 'AR Murugadoss does not acknowledge his failure. While his claims against the actor may hold some truth, but as a director you are the captain of the project. If you can't control your cast, then the responsibility lies with you,' wrote one user. 'Salman, from start, maintained that he will work at night mostly, also death threats safety concerns under those circumstances you have to work around stars schedule,' commented another. 'This unwarranted swipe by AR Murugadoss on Salman Khan is so juvenile. He was delighted to work with Salman on Sikandar by his own admission and faced no hassles. On the other hand, "Bhai" kept his commitment despite facing rib injury and serious threats by goons. Crying foul isn't befitting for the Captain of the Ship. Just accept that he faltered badly and couldn't succeed in making a GRAND EID bonanza for Salman Khan fans,' came from another.

Salman Khan's Sikandar director says not having 'complete command' led to movie's poor performance

Synopsis Salman Khan's Sikandar, released during Eid 2025, failed to meet box office expectations despite high anticipation. Director AR Murugadoss has attributed the film's underperformance to execution challenges, citing the emotional story's complexity and his lack of familiarity with original Hindi content. While comparing it to his earlier success Ghajini, Murugadoss acknowledged that working outside his comfort zone affected the final product. AR Murugadoss Opens Up on the Challenges Behind Salman Khan's Sikandar Salman Khan's Sikandar, released during Eid 2025, was anticipated as a major comeback for the superstar. However, the film failed to resonate with audiences and critics alike, emerging as one of Khan's lowest-performing projects in recent years. Now, director AR Murugadoss has taken responsibility for the film's underwhelming performance, pointing to execution issues as the main reason behind the box office an interview with Velaipechu Voice, Murugadoss explained that the film's core story was deeply emotional but ultimately fell short in its execution. The narrative revolves around Sanjay Rajkot, also known as Sikandar, a principled king whose wife, Sai Shree (played by Rashmika Mandanna), passes away unexpectedly. Her organs are donated to three individuals, prompting Sikandar to track them down and address the unfinished matters in their lives, while forming connections with an entire village in the process. Murugadoss said the story sought to explore universal human emotions, particularly the way people often fail to value relationships until it is too late. Despite the compelling premise, he admitted that translating it effectively onto screen proved director drew a comparison between Sikandar and his earlier Bollywood success, Ghajini (2008), starring Aamir Khan. He noted that Ghajini was a remake of his own Tamil film and that his prior experience gave him complete control over the material. In contrast, Sikandar was an original Hindi project for him, which made the adaptation process more difficult. He said, 'I could pull off Ghajini because it was a remake, not an original script. I had already done it before, so I had complete command. With Sikandar, that wasn't the case." Murugadoss acknowledged that this gap in familiarity contributed to the film's lack of also referenced language as a barrier that may have influenced the movie's execution, underscoring the challenges faced when working outside his comfort on a reported budget of Rs 200 crore, Sikandar earned approximately Rs 184–185 crore worldwide, falling short of expectations. The film's ensemble cast included notable actors such as Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Babbar, and Sharman Joshi, yet critics and audiences cited a weak narrative and underdeveloped execution as key reasons for its the setback, Murugadoss remains open to returning to Hindi cinema. He indicated that he would continue to explore projects in Bollywood, provided he feels confident about connecting with the audience.
