Popular Anker power banks have been recalled over a fire risk
The gadgets are sold at high street stores including Currys and Argos, as well as on Amazon.
Three models of the Anker power banks have been recalled.
This includes the Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable), the Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) and the Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable).
Anyone who owns these products has been told to stop using them immediately.
The products do not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, it has been warned.
The lithium-ion batteries in the portable chargers can overheat while in use, which can cause smoke, melting or even fire, according to the OPSS.
Addressing the recall, Anker said on its website: "Earlier this year, Anker implemented a series of enhanced quality assurance protocols designed to detect manufacturing issues earlier in the production cycle.
"These safeguards—including expanded component-level audits and supplier testing—helped us identify a potential issue with common, lithium-ion battery cells from a single vendor.
"While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several Anker power bank models.
"We have formally notified and are coordinating with regulatory authorities in all regions to ensure the recall is conducted in compliance with all applicable local guidelines."

It comes after the Anker 321 Power Bank (PowerCore 5K, Black) A1112 was recalled last month, also due to a fire risk.

TikTok to alert parents when teens post public videos
TikTok will now alert parents when their teenager posts a public video, as part of new safety tools launched this week. Just days after the UK introduced sweeping new internet safety rules, the social media company released more protections for young users. One new feature alerts parents, via the platform's 'family pairing' setting, when their teen makes a public post. Parents can also get notified when their child reports a video, although they won't be able to see the reported content. Other new tools include giving creators more control over the comments they see on their posts and how their fans can interact with them. TikTok has had parental control options for its teen accounts for more than five years, and other social media apps like Instagram also have the option for parents and children to link their accounts. How to turn on 'family pairing' on TikTok To turn on 'family pairing' on TikTok as either a teenager or parent, you'll first need to get agreement from the account you are pairing with. You'll also need to have a TikTok account. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom - the icon looks like a little person. Tap the Menu button on the top which looks like three horizontal lines on top of each other. Click on the Settings and Privacy option, which will take you to a longer drop-down menu. Scroll down and click Family Pairing and then Continue. Select either Parent or Teen, depending on who you are. If you're a parent, your teen will need to scan the QR code with their app to link the accounts. If you're a teen, you will need to scan a code generated by your parent's account after they've followed these steps. Instagram also has parental control settings that can be set up. Speaking exclusively to Sky News, Mr Law added that the company will continue to update protections for teen accounts. "We know from research we conducted with Internet Matters that when teens feel in control of their online behaviours and habits, it plays a positive role in their well-being," he said, "but they also value their parents helping them to check and understand privacy and safety settings." The new features are being introduced as discussions around internet safety heat up in the UK. Since Ofcom began enforcing new age checks and platform settings last Friday, more than 400,000 people have called on the government to repeal its Online Safety Act. Asked whether he thought the Online Safety Act had gone too far in its restrictions, Mr Law said TikTok "already prohibit[s] the vast majority of content classified as harmful to children under the Online Safety Act for all users. "Unlike most other large platforms, TikTok has been regulated by Ofcom since 2020, and we have therefore approached Online Safety Act compliance with a robust set of safeguards for our community, and we welcome that the legislation sets a level playing field for all platforms." When Sky News interviewed a group of teenagers last week, they said they regularly saw harmful content on platforms like TikTok. "There's some things that are so accessible on social media like TikTok that really shouldn't be easy to find, in my opinion," said 15-year-old Freya. Robin, 15, talking about adult sexual content, said: "I obviously don't go actively searching for it, but it is easy to stumble across, especially if it's on a platform with short-form content like TikTok where you just flick, flick, flick." "We have tens of thousands of safety professionals who work alongside technology to remove this content at scale and at speed, and 98% of violative content found is removed before it is reported to us and we restrict access to age-inappropriate material."

Refurbished £80 Fire HD Tablet 'works perfectly' and you 'can't tell it's not new'
'I have used iPads and Samsungs but I can't believe how good this is!' One piece of tech that has become increasingly popular over the last decade is the tablet. These nifty gadgets are the perfect balance between a laptop and a smartphone. They allow users to take notes, watch their favourite shows, and play games on a lightweight device that doesn't take up too much space. However, with so many different devices on the market at varying price points, it can be difficult to choose which one works best for you. For those who are a fan of Amazon products, then one of the retailer's popular tablets may be the best fit. At the moment Amazon has a cracking deal on the Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet that has been refurbished. Normally retailing for £134.99, tech lovers can now snap up this 2023 release for only £80.99 in a limited time deal. As one of Amazon's Certified Refurbished products, the Fire HD 10 Tablet has gone through thorough testing. This means its defective parts have been replaced and it has been inspected to work and look like it is brand new. For those a bit dubious, many shoppers have admitted that they couldn't even tell that the device was refurbished. Said to boast a 25 per cent faster performance than the previous generation, this tablet comes with 3GB of RAM to provide seamless streaming and gaming. Along a 10.1-inch 1080p Full HD display, this device comes with a 13 hour battery life and the storage can be expanded up to 1TB. With Alexa built in and an Amazon Kids+ feature to allow parents control over the content and apps their children are accessing, this tablet also boasts a 5MP front-facing camera so users can easily keep in touch with friends and family. And for those who love to read and have been contemplating updating their Kindle, this Amazon Tablet comes with the Kindle app already built in, which will allow users to access their existing library of purchased books and continue right where they left off on the other device. For those wanting to buy a new device, Amazon has dropped the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9. Normally retailing for £169, shoppers can now snap up the 64GB edition for £104.99. With an 8.7-inch screen, shoppers can multitask with ease as the tablet can split the display in two and perform two tasks at the same time. Alternatively, Argos has cut the price of the HONOR Pad X8a 11 Inch 64GB Wi-Fi Tablet down to £99.99 (RRP £109.99). With a battery life of up to 23 hours, this tablet boasts a 11-inch display that is equipped with IPS technology, which means the picture quality won't be compromised even from a side view. Back to the refurbed Amazon Fire 10 Tablet, shoppers have awarded it a 4.4 star rating, with over 500 people buying the device in the last 30 days. One happy shopper wrote: "For those seeking a reliable tablet without breaking the bank, the Certified Refurbished Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet is a solid choice. It offers great performance, a vibrant display, and long battery life—all at a budget-friendly price." With another five-star reviewer praising: "Have used iPads and samsungs but i cant believe how good this is!!!! smart light quality and excellent screen quality and very fluid!!!" However, one shopper did leave a mixed review, writing: "The quality of this product is excellent and it is really easy to use. My only disappointment is the availability of apps that can be used on it. "I purchased this device to stream my favourite shows but most of the apps are not available or only compatible with a firestick. There isn't even a decent YouTube app. It's frustrating to have to use the websites to access what I want to watch. Despite this, a top reviewer commented: "This is the fourth one that I've bought over the years but the first refurbished one. You can't tell that it's not new. Works perfectly." While another customer gushed: "Couldn't tell this was refurbished, looks brand new. Faster and lighter than previous model. Good value and easy to use and set up."
