Dua Lipa stuns with custom Porsche at Goodwood

News.com.au16-07-2025
Pop icon Dua Lipa arrived in style for the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a custom Porsche 911 GT3 RS worth more than $1 million.
The bespoke supercar designed by Dua Lipa was the star of Porsche's display as she cruised up the fabled hill climb alongside racers from the all-female Iron Dames team.
The 'one kiss' singer styled a special livery for Porsche's sports car, combining striking turquoise, red, gold and dark green elements.
This one-off Porsche will go under the hammer, auctioned off by RM Sotheby's, with proceeds going to the Sunny Hill Foundation, a charity that supports Kosovan causes including giving young women access to STEM education.
'I wanted to create something that fuses the emotion of music, design, and driving,' Dua Lipa said.
'The Sunny Hill Foundation has always been close to my heart, and this project is a celebration of the culture and creativity it supports.'
Dua Lipa's design is a wrap applied to a car with much more subtle arctic grey paint, along with pyro red wheels and carbon ceramic brakes gripped by yellow-painted calipers.
Under the skin, the special Porsche is equipped with an optional 'Weissach' package featuring a roll cage, roof, and suspension elements made from carbon fibre to save weight.
Powered by a 4.0-litre flat six engine, the 911 GT3 RS produces 380kW of power at a soaring 9000rpm.
It's not the fastest car in a straight line – 0-100km/h is sorted in 3.2 seconds – but it is one of the quickest cars to lap circuits, thanks to enormous spoilers that generate huge amounts of downforce.
Dua Lipa's car could appeal to collectors – as well as folks who missed out on the model, which is no longer available to order as the brand has introduced a newer, '992.2' series Porsche 911, which is not yet available in GT3 RS trim.
The model originally went on sale locally in 2023 for $500,200 plus on-road costs.
But lightly used examples are listed on websites such as Carsales for around $850,000 drive-away, suggesting Dua Lipa's exclusive example should be worth a seven-figure sum.

From Snoop Dogg to Tom Brady, stars flock to English second-tier clubs

When Snoop Dogg sang the praises of Swansea City, it signalled the unlikely arrival of the latest celebrity owner in the once unfashionable Championship, English football's second tier. The American rapper has joined the Welsh club's ownership structure, investing an undisclosed sum to rub shoulders with former Real Madrid stalwart and World Cup finalist Luka Modric, who has also sunk his money into the club. "The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me," Snoop said in an introductory video. In North Wales, Wrexham are dreaming of an extraordinary promotion to the Premier League this season on the back of the enthusiastic and lucrative support of Hollywood star Ryan "Deadpool" Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney. Meanwhile, former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady has a minority stake in Birmingham City, very much the second club in England's second city after Premier League outfit Aston Villa. His arrival in 2023 was not met with universal approval, with one fan asking "Tom Brady, who's he?" in the Amazon Prime Video series "Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues" which follows his early, whirlwind involvement in the club that includes the sacking of manager Wayne Rooney. Brady says his is a "visionary role" and he tries -- not always successfully -- to pass on his experience of winning seven Super Bowl winner's rings to the Birmingham players and their young manager, Chris Davies. But why do so many celebrities want to invest a slice of their fortunes into the Championship? Christopher Winn, course leader at the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB), told AFP the principal reason was because they see it as an attractive investment -- with the carrot of the Premier League's riches if the team can gain promotion proving irresistible. "There is the notion of long-term returns, in other words buying low (in a lower league) and selling high," Winn told AFP. "While on-field success and subsequent off-field returns are no guarantee, should the promised land of the Premier League be reached, a significant profit would likely be generated on any future sale of the club, in other words generating returns for investors well beyond their initial investment and operational outlay. "Granted, that does not mean the investors are all out to make a return -- football can often be a game of utility maximisation after all, and for some a personally funded passion project." - 'We could make money' - Brady's friend and co-owner at Birmingham, the New York-based investor Tom Wagner, reveals in the documentary they originally tried to buy a Premier League team but the deal fell through. Then the chance to snap up Birmingham presented itself. "We thought we could make some money, have a good return, which is our ultimate objective, so we just couldn't pass it up," Wagner says. Birmingham manager Davies has quickly felt the effect of having a sporting icon breathing down his neck -- he good-naturedly recounted to The Times that his attempts to relax on a family holiday in the Maldives were disrupted by Brady insisting on scheduling daily conference calls at the children's dinner time. In Wagner and Brady's first season, Birmingham crashed down into League One, or England's third division, but with Davies in charge they emphatically secured promotion to the Championship this year, romping away with the League One title with a record points total. That was largely due to the Americans' injection of funds for new players such as forward Jay Stansfield, acquired from Premier League club Fulham for £15 million ($20.3 million), a huge fee for League One. Celebrities are active behind the scenes at other Championship clubs. Birmingham kicked off the season last week with a 1-1 home draw against Ipswich Town, who count multi-million-selling music star Ed Sheeran among their financial backers. Ipswich confirmed last year that Sheeran had bought a 1.4% stake in his local club and he has been the shirt sponsor for the last four years – although in a cautionary tale for other star owners, his involvement did not stop Ipswich being relegated from the Premier League last season.

Dua Lipa celebrates 30th birthday in racy cut-out gown amid Ibiza holiday

Though Dua Lipa doesn't turn 30 until next week, the singer has kicked off the festivities a bit early, turning heads in a white sequin dress with a cheeky butt cutout. Ever the world traveller, Lipa is currently on a getaway in Ibiza with her fiance Callum Turner, immediate family and a handful of friends, to commemorate the milestone birthday. 'Early birthday celebrations on my favourite island with my favourite people wearing the most gorgeous dress Simon made for me … I can't bloody wait for 30!!!!,' the UK hit-maker captioned an Instagram carousel. As for the Simon in her caption? That would be namesake designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, a close friend of Lipa's who joined her for the intimate birthday gathering. For the pop star's dreamy island bash, he designed a white sequin floor-length gown with a high neckline, open back and large cutout around her left hip. Lipa accented the custom creation with pointy white flats, statement stud earrings, chunky silver bangles and sparkly rings. She went with minimal makeup, putting all the attention on her sun-kissed skin and long mermaid-like waves. 'Love you ma chérie,' Jacquemus commented on her post. 'Simon, plz, i need this dress,' one person pleaded. 'Queen of making every year look like the best year,' Spotify's account wrote. On Sunday, Lipa shared another Instagram slide show, featuring photos from the couple's vacation. 'Resting meeee bones before I carry on dancing into my 30s!!!!!!' she captioned the post. In the first snap, Lipa flaunted her bikini body in polka-dot swimwear. Then, in the following photo, the musician posed with her soon-to-be-husband, wearing another black and white dotted string bikini. We can't wait to see what she wears for her big day later this month.

Oscar Piastri to be asked how he wants to lose championship after Aussie's Hungarian GP outburst

McLaren is planning to speak to Oscar Piastri about what will happen if his teammate, Lando Norris, is to win the 2025 driver's championship as tensions simmer at the F1 juggernaut. Piastri leads Norris by nine points at the championship break, in what has quickly become a two-horse race between the McLaren duo, who have won 11 of the 14 grands prix so far. However, after the Aussie was dudded by team tactics at the Hungarian Grand Prix at the start of this month, it became crystal clear that the team have a problem on their hands. The Aussie was the victim of his McLaren team's strategy gamble to put teammate Lando Norris on an ambitious one-stop strategy after he dropped positions on the opening lap, with tensions finally bubbling over. McLaren has done a brilliant job in keeping the relationship between Piastri and Norris amicable as they fight for the world championship — but Piastri's radio message to his team during the Hungary GP shows it is just a matter of time before the gloves come off. As Piastri was preparing for his final stop, he was asked by race engineer Tom Stallard if he intended to extinguish any glimmer of hope Leclerc had of winning the race, or was instead focussed on beating his teammate. As recorded by the @radiomessages profile on X, Piastri was asked: 'Leclerc is going to be four or five seconds ahead of our pit window. We suggest to box this lap'. Piastri's blunt response was incredibly telling: 'I don't really care about Leclerc. I just want the best chance to try and beat Lando. In the end, he didn't manage to reel in his teammate, and many felt the Aussie was dudded by the tactics, which seemed to favour the Englishman from the outset on a difficult track to overtake. And with McLaren sensing Piastri is growing frustrated, the team is set to pull each of their star drivers aside ahead of the season restarting at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31. Speaking to The Race, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said the team will work out a plan on how to handle the losing driver, when the championship is ultimately decided. 'We'll just sit down and actually have a conversation and go 'Right, one of you is going to win, it's going to be the best day of your life – one of you is going to lose, how do you want us to handle that? You want us to jump up and down and celebrate this guy [who] won?' he said. 'We're fully aware and sensitive to how you celebrate that situation. And I think we'll just sit down with the drivers and come to an agreement: 'One of you is not going to be the champion. How do you want us to act?' 'That's the way we think. It comes back to thinking about our people.' In 2025, Piastri has six wins to Norris's five; they are level on four poles, and equal on podiums too, with 12 apiece. And McLaren insists they will give both drivers an equal opportunity to take their first title and will give them freedom to race wheel-to-wheel and employ different strategies. 'It's going to come down to execution,' said Brown, speaking about which man will come out on top. 'It's clear, from a pace point of view, there's nothing in it. 'So, it's going to come down to consistency of execution – or it could come down to luck of the draw: weather, safety car, or one guy gets wiped out by someone else on the track.'
