Kent give themselves a chance in tense battle with Glamorgan
Glamorgan go into the final day on a precarious 25-2 chasing 189 to beat Kent after the visitors ground out a decent second innings total of 360.They were left 14 tricky overs to bat in the evening gloom, with Wes Agar and Matt Parkinson sending back Asa Tribe and Zain Ul Hassan cheaply.Middle-order men Harry Finch (68) and Grant Stewart (63) were the main Kent contributors while Ben Compton, Chris Benjamin and Joey Evison all fell in the forties.Glamorgan were forced to work hard for their wickets on a slow pitch with the Kookaburra ball, and without opening bowler Timm van der Gugten.Kiran Carlson (3-24) helped clean up the lower order after fellow off-spinner Ben Kellaway (2-83) went off following a marathon spell.
Kent began the day at 106-1, 66 runs behind, and lost just two wickets in each of the first two sessions to get a foothold back in the match.Compton, who was leading the race towards 1,000 first-class runs, was fortunate to survive an inside edge off James Harris on 44 but could not take advantage as he was bowled for 48 off 147 balls by off-spinner Ben Kellaway. It was a battle of patience with no slip fielders and a slow scoring rate and Daniel Bell-Drummond fell with the visitors still six behind, the captain looking dismayed to be given out for 22 as his attempted pull lobbed up to sub keeper Alex Horton, deputising for Chris Cooke.Chris Benjamin, like Compton, had lasted for more than three hours for his 46 when he drove at a wide one from James Harris and dragged it on to his stumps.The new ball brought a rare clutch of boundaries as Joey Evison and Harry Finch put together a stand of 84 before Evison, on 49, drove Ul Hassan to cover.Grant Stewart was dropped at slip off Kellaway on one and that cost Glamorgan as he added 68 more with Finch to give Kent something to bowl at.Carlson, bowling after Kellaway left the field with a back issue, broke the stand as Finch chipped a return catch and claimed two more cheap wickets despite Stewart blasting three consecutive sixes. The Australian-Italian all-rounder was last out trying to hit another maximum off Leonard while the injured Joe Denly watched on after coming in last. It always looked likely to be a torrid time for Glamorgan and so it proved, with a ferocious spell from Agar who had Tribe caught at short-leg for four.Spinner Parkinson's second ball had Ul Hassan leg-before for 10, before Carlson and night-watchman Harris hung on to leave an absorbing game still up for grabs going into the final day.

Their hopes of a series clean sweep were washed away in the Sydney rain as Nic White and Will Skelton inspired Australia to a deserved victory in the third and final Test. On a night when the threat of lightning forced the players off for almost 40 minutes at the start of the second half, the hosts adapted to the downpour, kept it simple and got under the skins of the Lions players. Nice career, well done The players were kept inside for 38 minutes and it gave them the chance to cool off. This match may have been a dead rubber but there was an intensity about the home side's play which sometimes spilled over into belligerence. White and Skelton were at the vanguard, mixing brilliant play with antagonism as they sought to disrupt the Lions. Taniela Tupou was on top in the scrum and the lineout was also a real cause for concern for the visitors who were making too many mistakes. Max Jorgensen took full advantage, collecting the spilt ball and rampaging up the right wing to score Australia's second try. Ben Donaldson, on for the injured Lynagh, converted to make it 15-0 on 55 minutes, leaving the Lions needing three scores. White left the field soon after, receiving the acclaim of the Sydney crowd. 'Nice career, well done,' said Amashukeli as the scrum-half trotted off. The Lions needed a spark and Russell provided it with a well judged up-and-under. Hugo Keenan won the aerial duel to put the tourists on the attack and a couple of plays later Jac Morgan dived in low to score from close range, with Russell converting. They couldn't build on it. Instead, it was Australia who took back control, forcing the Lions back on to their own tryline. There was a desperation about the visitors' defending and Amashukeli was losing patience. There were too many offsides and Ronan Kelleher was sent to the sin-bin. Tom Curry limped off at the same time and the Lions couldn't hold out any longer. Tate McDermott, on for White, darted round a ruck for the Aussies' third try. Donaldson's conversion put the contest beyond doubt. Yorkshire bowler Milnes to return to Kent
Kent have signed Yorkshire seam bowler Matt Milnes for the 2026 31-year-old previously played for Kent between 2019 and 2022 and was named the county's Bowler of the Year in 2021, when they won the T20 Vitality played for Nottinghamshire before joining Kent for the first time in took 193 wickets in 94 appearances in his first spell with the club before leaving to join the White Rose decided to leave Yorkshire at the end of his contract this year after a series of back injuries impacted his game time and also citing the need to be closer to general manager Gavin Hamilton said: "The club has supported Matt closely during some tough times off the field and whilst it was hoped he would remain at Yorkshire, there is an understanding of his reasons for moving on."Kent director of cricket, Simon Cook, told the club website:, external "He was an extremely big part of our bowling attack during our sustained periods of success in his first time here, and he is an extremely talented bowler in both red and white ball cricket."As we plan for the future in our ethos of producing Kent talent, his experience will also be a great boost to us too."
