Race to save tourist, 26, trapped in active volcano for days after horror fall

Juliana Marins, a tourist from Brazil, was on a trek to climb Indonesia's Rinjani volcano when she is believed to have slipped and fallen inside and rescue teams have so far not managed to reach her
A tourist slipped inside an active volcano and has now been trapped inside for three days with rescue teams so far unable to reach her.
Distressing last footage shows Juliana Marins after she fell from one of the most dangerous hiking paths in the world into the 12,000-foot-high active volcano. The 26 year old had been on a trek to scale Indonesia's Rinjani volcano on June 20 when she slipped and plunged nearly 1,000 feet down the peak. She is claimed to have been stopped and waited on a trek led by guide Ali Mustafa after saying she was too tired to go on. Ms Marins who works as a publicist and pole dancer, reportedly screamed as she lost her footing.

When the guide returned with the other five hikers Juliana had gone but the hikers then saw her where she had landed and was unable to climb back up. Drone footage shot by another tour group shows her stranded in the volcano apparently stuck fast in a crevasse unable to free herself.
She is looking confused and dazed and apparently able to move just her arms and her torso with her legs curled at a strange angle as the film ends. She is wearing just jeans, a T-shirt, gloves, and trainers despite the altitude and intense cold. Rescuers' attempts to reach Juliana were abandoned on June 22 after fog reduced visibility to near zero, local authorities reported.
Spokesman for the East Lombok Police, Nikolas Osman, said Juliana was in a group going to the summit of Rinjani. "The victim experienced fatigue and the guide at that time advised her to rest," he said. "Then the five guests in the tour group were taken by the guide to continue the journey."
Today a tour guide said that the woman was spotted again further down the slope and rescue teams are struggling in difficult conditions due to the terrain and thick fog. Her family in Niteroi, eastern Brazil, deny Indonesian claims that they had been able to airdrop food and clothing to her. Instead they say a botched rescue bid was abandoned over the weekend when a helicopter crew realised the rope they had was too short.

An Instagram page resgatejulianamarins set up by her family giving updates has said that experienced local mountaineers are heading to join the search. It stated "We have confirmed information that two well-experienced mountaineers from the area are headed to the scene of Juliana's crash.
"We don't have information on whether they will be able to continue the rescue operation overnight, but we do know that there is good backup with specialized equipment to accompany crews already on site."
Brazil's foreign ministry said in a statement: "Since being alerted by her family, the Brazilian embassy in Jakarta has mobilised local authorities at the highest level.
"This has brought the rescue teams to the area of the volcano where the fall took place in a remote region about four hours away from the nearest urban centre."
Juliana's family remains hopeful, and her sister Mariana Marins said: "I believe my sister is alive." She had been on a three-month backpacking trip through Asia when she disappeared.

Ferne McCann's acid attacker ex 'dating Love Island star from behind bars'

Arthur Collins, who once dated Ferne McCann and shares a child with the star is currently in prison following a vile acid attack but is said to have found a connection with a former Love Island star Ferne McCann's shamed ex boyfriend has found himself in a new relationship from behind bars, according to reports. Arthur Collins, 32, is currently serving 20 years in prison for a vile acid attack in a nightclub which left 16 people with chemical burns. At the time of the attack, Collins was dating the former TOWIE star but he has now reportedly found a romantic connection with another reality TV star. Claims suggest Collins is romantically involved with former Love Island star Amelia Peters and has been flirting with her from inside prison. ‌ It's thought the duo first connected last October when Collins contacted the 26-year-old ex-Islander after spotting her Instagram account. A source claims the pair are now in regular contact, with Collins sending Peters bouquets of flowers. ‌ She is also said to have been visiting him regularly in prison. A source told the Sun: "They talk all the time — despite the fact he's in jail. He's got a phone they speak on and he's sent her flowers a number of times.' It's an offence to have a phone in prison and Collins has already had his sentence extended by eight months in 2018 for smuggling a phone into the jail. The latest reports come days after Collins was probed over fears he was plotting to smuggle drugs into Cat C HMP The Mount using drones. Prison chiefs launched an investigation over suspicions dealers were flooding the jail with drugs using drones. There had been concerns that the thug - who shares daughter Sunday with ex-partner Ferne, 34 - had masterminded the plot in the Herts prison. However, no police investigation was carried out, and the Mirror revealed he was been moved to a tougher jail. A source said: "Collins has been at the centre of a major internal prison investigation. ‌ "There were fears drug dealers had been using drones to flood HMP The Mount with drugs. It's a huge worry that tens of thousands of pounds worth of drugs were going to make their way into the jail. "The police have not been called in as it has been dealt with internally. Collins has now been moved to another prison, which is a lot stricter." When Collins was jailed, Ferne released a statement. At the time, she said: "Ferne's thoughts are of course with the innocent people caught up in the events at Mangle last April. No-one should ever be faced with violence on a night out." ‌ Speaking after the sentencing, she explained how she visited Collins prison and told him: "This is the last time you will see either of us. "You have ruined our lives. This is what you have done. And this is what you are missing out on. You will never see us again."

Indonesia races to rescue Brazilian hiker stranded on volcano cliff for four days

JAKARTA, June 24 (Reuters) - Emergency responders in Indonesia are struggling to find a Brazilian woman who fell off a cliff while hiking around the country's second highest volcano at the weekend, officials said on Tuesday, as rescue efforts entered a fourth day. Juliana Marins, 27, was walking with five friends on Mount Rinjani on Saturday when she slipped and fell off a cliff on the side of the 3,726-metre (12,224 feet) mountain, head of local rescuers Muhammad Hariyadi told Reuters. Located in West Nusa Tenggara province, the active volcano is a popular tourist site in the Southeast Asian archipelago. Marins fell off a cliff on the mountain, but not into the volcano crater, Hariyadi said. Fifty people were involved in the rescue. "We are in the process of going down there... It is very steep so very difficult for us to reach her," Hariyadi said, stressing that the soft sand in the area made it difficult to retrieve her using ropes, and that a helicopter was on its way to the site. He said Marins, who was located on Saturday, was slipping further on the sandy terrain of the cliff face. She was at a depth of 150 metres when first discovered, but had slipped to 500 metres by Monday morning, he added. As of Tuesday morning, rescuers were still struggling to get down the cliff. "There was also thick fog on the site that made it even more difficult," Hariyadi said. Rescuers have not been able to confirm whether Marins is still alive. Drone footage showed that she was not moving, Hariyadi said. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said in a statement that the Mount Rinjani hiking track would be closed to ease the evacuation effort and out of respect to Marins and her family. Several tourists, including foreigners, have died in accidents while hiking the volcano over the past few years, according to local media reports, including a Malaysian tourist who also fell off a cliff last month.

Rescue teams in Indonesia are racing to locate a Brazilian tourist who vanished after falling during a hike near the crater rim of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on the island of Lombok. Juliana Marins, 26, was last seen early Saturday morning when she slipped from a cliff edge bordering the hiking trail. Despite initial signs of life – including screams for help reported by park officials and drone footage showing her conscious and moving – teams have struggled to reach her due to fog, treacherous terrain and worsening weather. On Monday, rescuers again spotted Ms Marins – who appeared to have fallen further – but were forced to retreat due to poor weather conditions. Her family has raised alarm on social media, saying she has had no food, water or warm clothing for over three days and condemned the park for staying open while she remains missing. Brazil's foreign ministry confirmed it is liaising with Indonesian authorities and has dispatched embassy staff to monitor the situation.
