Johor police solve kidnap case in 24 hours, 5 suspects arrested
JOHOR BARU: Johor police solved a kidnap-for-ransom case within 24 hours, with the arrests of five men in a series of raids across Kulai and Simpang Renggam, Kluang, on May 28.
The hostage was rescued in Kulai the following day.
The suspects, a Malaysian and four foreign nationals aged between 22 and 48, were detained following a police report lodged by a 46-year-old foreigner.
The complainant said he had received a distress call from his friend's wife, claiming that her husband had been abducted and was being held by unidentified individuals who demanded RM20,000 for his release.
Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said that acting on the tip-off, investigators located the victim in Kulai and carried out simultaneous arrests at several locations.
"The suspects have no prior criminal records, and their urine tests came back negative for drugs," he said.
Police seized several items during the raids but declined to reveal the nature of the evidence or provide details on the suspects and victim, citing the sensitivity of the case.
The five suspects were remanded on May 31 for six days to facilitate investigations under Section 364 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting with intent to murder, punishable by up to 30 years in jail and whipping.
They are also being investigated under Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
The foreigners may face further charges under Sections 6(1)(C) and 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for illegal entry and overstaying, respectively.

TANGKAK: A 58-year-old retiree lost about RM108,000 of her savings after receiving a call from scammers impersonating as officers from government agencies. Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the woman was contacted by individuals claiming to be from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the police. 'The suspects accused her of being involved in suspicious investment and loan activities, and she started to panic. 'The suspects manipulated the victim into believing she was being audited. Out of fear, she followed the instructions given, including transferring money into an account supposedly for audit purposes,' he said here yesterday. The victim ended up making 16 transactions from her account to two bank accounts, believed to be mule accounts. 'She only realised she had been cheated after suffering losses totalling RM108,520. She lodged a police report on Sunday,' said Supt Roslan. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Supt Roslan warned the public not to fall for phone scams, particularly those involving callers posing as enforcement officers or government servants. 'We advise the public to verify suspicious calls before taking any action. Be cautious and always get the latest updates on scams through official platforms like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department,' he said. Supt Roslan urged anyone who believes they have been scammed to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 for early intervention to block fund transfers.

British man missing in KL since last week
KUALA LUMPUR: The disappearance of Jordan Johnson-Doyle (pic) a week ago has left his family distraught. The bespectacled, brown-haired Briton was last seen in Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar at 8pm last Tuesday, when he sent his best friend Owen a photograph of the pub's quiz night poster, reported the United Kingdom's Daily Mail. The daily reported that the 25-year-old software engineer had been on a solo trip to the Mediterranean and South-East Asia while working remotely for about a year and a half. The medium-built, 180cm-tall man arrived in Malaysia on May 17 and is believed to have been staying at Robertson Residences Bukit Bintang before vanishing without a trace. Daily Mail quoted Johnson's mother, Leanne Burnett, 44, as saying that she first became concerned after failing to reach her son for their daily call last Tuesday. She spoke to him on May 26, talking about their usual work matters, adding that he sounded normal. Her concern intensified after further attempts to get in touch with her son via phone and social media failed, with her son's phone believed to have gone dead since May 30. According to Burnett, based on the 'Find My iPhone' tracking service, the phone was last located at a residential flat near Healy Mac's on May 28. Burnett and the rest of the Johnson family have since posted on various social media sites for leads on the missing person. 'My son is missing in Kuala Lumpur. Please help us find him; all his family and friends are so worried. Please, please share share share. Armed woman and dad-bashing son arrested
KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested two individuals in separate violent incidents in Tawau, including a man who assaulted his father and a woman caught brandishing a machete while driving. In the first case, a 23-year-old man was detained for assaulting his father, leaving the older man, in his 60s, with serious facial injuries following a suspected misunderstanding at their home in Kampung Pitas, Bombalai. Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the incident occurred at 9.15pm on Sunday. 'Initial investigation revealed the son suddenly punched his father in the face and head. It is still unknown why the attack happened,' he said. The suspect, who lacked valid travel documents, attempted to flee during the arrest but was apprehended after a brief struggle. The man is currently being held for investigation under Sections 323 and 326A of the Penal Code. Earlier the same day, police arrested a 39-year-old woman who caused alarm by driving while wielding a machete. In the 5pm incident, the woman was driving slowly and screaming at bystanders in front of a business premises while brandishing the weapon. Policemen on patrol responded swiftly, stopping the vehicle and seizing the machete. A further search of the vehicle uncovered an axe, said ACP Jasmin. The woman was taken to the police station for further investigation, he said, adding that police are investigating the case under criminal intimidation and are still working to determine her motive.
