Thackeray cousins alliance: Amid the ongoing speculations over a possible tie-up between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, the estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray reportedly met abroad last month and held discussions about the alliance, sources said.
The Thackeray brothers were on a foreign tour in April when they both held discussions on a possible alliance ahead of the BMC polls.
For the past few days, speculations have been rife about a possible alliance between the Uddhav and Raj Thackeray after they recently hinted at the possibility of setting aside past differences and working together for the people of Maharashtra, nearly two decades after parting ways.
Recently, addressing the reporters, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said there was no confusion among the workers of either party. 'There is no confusion in our and our Shiv Sainiks' hearts. There is no confusion in his (MNS) mind either. We will not give any message, we will give the news directly," Uddhav said.
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray hinted towards joining hands with his cousin brother for the interest of the Marathi manoos (Marathi-speaking people).
Notably, the MNS in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections supported the BJP in Maharashtra, but six months later, both parties fought the state Assembly polls separately.
Raj Thackeray left the undivided Shiv Sena in 2005 when he resigned from the party and announced MNS on March 9, 2006 in Mumbai. Since then, their political paths were different.
The last such attempt was made during the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, when talks were initiated but failed to gain traction from Uddhav. He declined to meet the emissary sent by Raj, insisting on a meeting with his deputies instead.
Currently, both Shiv Sena UBT and MNS are fighting for political survival. The MNS faces a more precarious situation, having struggled to secure significant support from the people of Maharashtra in general and assembly elections since 2014.

Ladki Bahin scheme: BJP's Bawankule refutes charges of illegal fund diversion
Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday rubbished claims that the state government diverted funds from other departments for the Ladki Bahin scheme , asserting that the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation was committed to safeguarding the vulnerable sections of society. In the recent past, state Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat accused the Ajit Pawar-led Finance Department of high-handedness in what he termed as illegal diversion of funds from his department without his knowledge. "These funds are reserved and the government has no power to override those provisions. At times, there could be delays in disbursement of funds, but that should not be misconstrued as diversion," he added. He asserted that the Fadnavis government was committed to safeguarding the budgetary allocations made for the vulnerable sections of society. "This administration will never interfere with or misappropriate funds allocated to the Social Justice and Tribal Development departments," he said. Shirsat had claimed on May 2 that funds of more than Rs 413 crore were reallocated from the Social Justice Department to finance the Ladki Bahin scheme. He also alleged that an additional Rs 335 crore had been diverted from the Tribal Development Department in a similar way. Claiming that these reallocations were done unilaterally and in violation of constitutional safeguards, he had also said that if the government does not need the Social Justice Department, it might as well dissolve it entirely rather than continuing to undermine its financial capacity. Days later, he again said such diversions would cripple operations of his department and erode public trust in the welfare programmes meant for underprivileged groups. The issue brought to the fore the internal friction within the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Responding to the accusations, Ajit Pawar had earlier downplayed the matter and suggested that such disagreements should have been addressed within cabinet meetings rather than in public. CM Fadnavis had also clarified that no funds were diverted from other departments for the Ladki Bahin scheme, and said those who do not understand the budget were making unsubstantiated claims. "The charges (of fund diversion for the Ladki Bahin Yojana) are wrong. Only those who don't understand the budget can make such a charge. Rules say funds should be reserved for SCs/STs. Maximum funds should be reserved for personal benefit schemes and some for infrastructure development," the CM said in the last week of May. "Ladki Bahin Yojana falls under the category of giving personal benefit to beneficiaries. So, if you give money to this scheme, then as per budgetary rules, it has to be shown under the Tribal Affairs Department and the Social Justice Department," he said.

A large number of people from Kalyan-Dombivli work in IT companies in Navi Mumbai. Rupesh Raut, a resident of Dombivli who works in an IT company in Vikhroli, said, "The govt should prioritise the work of building a growth centre in Kalyan so that the lives of people like us, who risk our lives and travel by local train every day, will be saved. If we get jobs near us, it will reduce the crowd in trains." Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Dipesh Mhatre from Dombivli said that today Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur, where most people are employed in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, have become residential hubs where lakhs of people live. Railway activist Lata Argade said the govt now needs to take a decision on changing the working hours of govt and private sector offices in Mumbai.
