Thackeray cousins alliance: Amid the ongoing speculations over a possible tie-up between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, the estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray reportedly met abroad last month and held discussions about the alliance, sources said.
The Thackeray brothers were on a foreign tour in April when they both held discussions on a possible alliance ahead of the BMC polls.
For the past few days, speculations have been rife about a possible alliance between the Uddhav and Raj Thackeray after they recently hinted at the possibility of setting aside past differences and working together for the people of Maharashtra, nearly two decades after parting ways.
Recently, addressing the reporters, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said there was no confusion among the workers of either party. 'There is no confusion in our and our Shiv Sainiks' hearts. There is no confusion in his (MNS) mind either. We will not give any message, we will give the news directly," Uddhav said.
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray hinted towards joining hands with his cousin brother for the interest of the Marathi manoos (Marathi-speaking people).
Notably, the MNS in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections supported the BJP in Maharashtra, but six months later, both parties fought the state Assembly polls separately.
Raj Thackeray left the undivided Shiv Sena in 2005 when he resigned from the party and announced MNS on March 9, 2006 in Mumbai. Since then, their political paths were different.
The last such attempt was made during the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, when talks were initiated but failed to gain traction from Uddhav. He declined to meet the emissary sent by Raj, insisting on a meeting with his deputies instead.
Currently, both Shiv Sena UBT and MNS are fighting for political survival. The MNS faces a more precarious situation, having struggled to secure significant support from the people of Maharashtra in general and assembly elections since 2014.

Prime Minister keeps doing such events: Sanjay Raut on PM Modi meeting all-party delegation members following Op Sindoor

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 11 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not clarified his role regarding the all-party delegations sent to different parts of the world following Operation Sindoor. He added that PM Modi keeps on doing such events. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi met with the members of the seven Parliamentary delegations sent to multiple key partner countries. While speaking to the reporters on Wednesday, Sanjay Raut asserted that the nation wants to know whether the cessation of hostilities agreement between India and Pakistan took place under the pressure of US President Donald Trump. 'The Prime Minister keeps doing such events. The Prime Minister has not clarified his role till now. The nation wants to know whether the ceasefire between India and Pakistan happened under the pressure of President Trump or not', he told reporters. Sanjay Raut further slammed the Union Government while speaking on the PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) issue. He said that 140 crore people of the country had made up their mind that PM Narendra Modi will take PoK and Pakistan will be 'slapped' so hard that it will not even be able to come back. '140 crore people of the country had this in their mind that now Modi will take POK and Pakistan will be slapped so hard that Pakistan will not get back. Pakistan will be divided into four parts. We were seeing that we will go to Lahore, we will go to Karachi, there will be a (Akhand Hindustan) united India. Modi ji will make Veer Savarkar's dream come true, which has not happened till now', Sanjay Raut added. The delegations, consisting of MPs from across party lines, former MPs and distinguished diplomats, highlighted India's stand against terror and commitment to world peace during their visits to various nations. Seven groups of all party delegations, including Opposition MPs such as Supriya Sule of NCP-SCP, Shashi Tharoor of the Congress party, AIMIM chief Asaddudin Owaisi, and former ambassadors, completed their diplomatic efforts to visit various world capitals and promoted India's policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. The delegation was launched post Operation Sindoor, India's response to the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 tourists were killed. Over 50 people, including members of Parliament from multiple political parties, former ambassadors, and former government officials, visited over 30 countries as part of India's diplomatic outreach post Operation Sindoor. Ladki Bahin scheme: BJP's Bawankule refutes charges of illegal fund diversion

Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday rubbished claims that the state government diverted funds from other departments for the Ladki Bahin scheme , asserting that the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation was committed to safeguarding the vulnerable sections of society. In the recent past, state Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat accused the Ajit Pawar-led Finance Department of high-handedness in what he termed as illegal diversion of funds from his department without his knowledge. Acknowledging that the state was facing financial constraints due to the women-centric welfare scheme launched last year ahead of the assembly polls, the Shiv Sena minister had said the state government should better "shut" the Social Justice Department instead of periodic diversion of the allocated funds. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Don't Forget To Block Ads Before Wednesday Lifestyle Tech Tips Click Here Undo Also Read: After Ladki Bahin scheme, Maharashtra hikes liquor duties to ease cash crunch Under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, the Mahayuti government's flagship scheme launched in August 2024, a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 is given to eligible women in the state. The scheme's estimated annual outlay is more than Rs 40,000 crore. Live Events Responding to a question related to Shirsat's allegations, Bawankule, who is also the state chief of the ruling BJP , said, "There is a legal provision which ensures that funds earmarked for departments like Social Justice and Tribal Development, cannot be diverted for any other purpose." "These funds are reserved and the government has no power to override those provisions. At times, there could be delays in disbursement of funds, but that should not be misconstrued as diversion," he added. He asserted that the Fadnavis government was committed to safeguarding the budgetary allocations made for the vulnerable sections of society. "This administration will never interfere with or misappropriate funds allocated to the Social Justice and Tribal Development departments," he said. Shirsat had claimed on May 2 that funds of more than Rs 413 crore were reallocated from the Social Justice Department to finance the Ladki Bahin scheme. He also alleged that an additional Rs 335 crore had been diverted from the Tribal Development Department in a similar way. Claiming that these reallocations were done unilaterally and in violation of constitutional safeguards, he had also said that if the government does not need the Social Justice Department, it might as well dissolve it entirely rather than continuing to undermine its financial capacity. Days later, he again said such diversions would cripple operations of his department and erode public trust in the welfare programmes meant for underprivileged groups. The issue brought to the fore the internal friction within the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Responding to the accusations, Ajit Pawar had earlier downplayed the matter and suggested that such disagreements should have been addressed within cabinet meetings rather than in public. CM Fadnavis had also clarified that no funds were diverted from other departments for the Ladki Bahin scheme, and said those who do not understand the budget were making unsubstantiated claims. "The charges (of fund diversion for the Ladki Bahin Yojana) are wrong. Only those who don't understand the budget can make such a charge. Rules say funds should be reserved for SCs/STs. Maximum funds should be reserved for personal benefit schemes and some for infrastructure development," the CM said in the last week of May. "Ladki Bahin Yojana falls under the category of giving personal benefit to beneficiaries. So, if you give money to this scheme, then as per budgetary rules, it has to be shown under the Tribal Affairs Department and the Social Justice Department," he said.

10 years, Rs 1,000 crore, zero progress: Commuters demand action on Kalyan growth plan

THANE: A day after the train-fall incident near Mumbra killed four passengers and injured nine, passengers living in Kalyan-Dombivli and beyond are demanding that the govt implement the growth centre that the MMRDA had planned in 10 villages of Kalyan, similar to Mumbai's BKC. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Such a centre would mean that people would not have to travel to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane for jobs, resulting in a reduction in local train passengers. Some passengers believe that the government should prioritise the ongoing infrastructure projects connecting Kalyan-Dombivli to Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, which would also reduce the number of people travelling by train. A large number of people from Kalyan-Dombivli work in IT companies in Navi Mumbai. Most of them used to travel in buses, but due to the Metro Line 12 (Kalyan-Taloja metro work), this journey takes two hours instead of 40 minutes. As a result, they now travel by train, first going to Thane from Kalyan-Dombivli and then to Navi Mumbai, adding to the peak-hour crowd. Although MMRDA is working fast on this Metro Line 12, the work on Metro 5 connecting Kalyan to Thane has not yet started between Kalyan and Bhiwandi. The delay in work on the Mumbai-Nashik highway, particularly from Thane to Kalyan-Bhiwandi Phata, has also led many people to prefer trains instead of private cars, increasing the crowd in trains. In 2015, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis decided to develop 10 villages of Kalyan as a growth centre on the lines of BKC, stating that people from these cities would not have to travel to Mumbai and Thane for jobs. After this, MMRDA reserved 1,089 hectares of land in these 10 villages for the growth centre. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In 2018, the govt sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for it, but no work has started yet. Rupesh Raut, a resident of Dombivli who works in an IT company in Vikhroli, said, "The govt should prioritise the work of building a growth centre in Kalyan so that the lives of people like us, who risk our lives and travel by local train every day, will be saved. If we get jobs near us, it will reduce the crowd in trains." Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Dipesh Mhatre from Dombivli said that today Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur, where most people are employed in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, have become residential hubs where lakhs of people live. Railway activist Lata Argade said the govt now needs to take a decision on changing the working hours of govt and private sector offices in Mumbai.
