Post offices across India to start accepting digital payments from August
Press Trust of India New Delhi
Post offices across India will start accepting digital payments at counters from August after completing the rollout of a new application in their IT system, official sources said.
Post offices have not been able to accept digital payments as they don't have their accounts synced with UPI (unique payment interface) system.
"The Department of Posts is implementing its IT infrastructure which will have new applications that are enabled to perform transactions with Dynamic QR Code. Rollout will be completed at all post offices by August 2025," an official source told PTI.
Pilot rollout of the new system under IT 2.0 has been started in the Karnataka circle. QR-based booking of mail products was successfully carried out at the Mysore head office (HO), Bagalkot HO and its subordinate offices.
Initially, the Department of Post had introduced static QR code at the point of sale counters at the post offices to enable digital transactions.
However, due to recurring technical difficulties and customer complaints, this approach had to be discontinued.

Mercedes says top-end car portfolio continues to drive growth in volatile mkt
Agencies Mercedes-Benz India Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday said its top-end model range continues to drive growth for the automaker amid a volatile business environment. In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said that the overall domestic luxury car market growth is pegged at around 4-5 per cent year on year. He noted that demand is flattish as compared to last year for the industry. "Considering all the geopolitical developments happening around us, the growth may not be there as much as what we have seen in the previous years, but it is still there," Iyer stated. For Mercedes, the top end vehicle and core segments continue to grow while the entry level vertical has de-grown, he noted. "With eight launches in 2025, our top-end luxury vehicle strategy has been very successful, garnering immense customer response and elevating the desirability of Mercedes-Benz in the market," Iyer said."So yes, we are not seeing that double-digit kind of growth momentum that we saw in the previous year, but still, flattish to single-digit growth is there," he noted that while there are some headwinds, the industry is also witnessing some tailwinds, which augur well for the growth in the coming quarters. Iyer cited GDP growth projections and record GST collections this year as some of the positive factors."Obviously, macros are strong and they should not affect the fundamental position. But yeah, it's a volatile market, for sure," he added. The German Luxury carmaker on Tuesday launched AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe priced at Rs at 1.35 crore (ex-showroom, India).

Sebi proposes standard code for smooth transfer of securities to legal heirs
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Capital markets regulator Sebi on Tuesday proposed the introduction of a standard reason code to streamline the transfer of securities from nominees to legal heirs and ensure appropriate tax treatment for such transactions. In a consultation paper, Sebi suggested introducing a specific reason code 'TLH' (Transmission to Legal Heirs) to be used by registrars, depositories and other reporting entities while intimating the Central Board of Direct Taxes about such transmissions. The move seeks to enable proper application of the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Currently, transmission of securities from nominee to legal heir of the original holder, some transactions are being treated as normal sale of securities. This has resulted in capital gains tax being levied on nominees, even though clause (iii) of Section 47 of the Act does not consider such transmissions as 'transfers" for tax purposes, Sebi said. The regulator noted that the nominee merely acts as a trustee for the benefit of legal heirs of the original security holder and ultimately the securities which belong to the legal heir(s) are transmitted by the nominee to such legal heir(s). The proposal follows deliberations by a working group comprising registrars to an issue and share transfer agents (RTAs), which engaged with multiple stakeholders. Based on the working group's recommendations, the markets watchdog has sought to make the reporting process more consistent and transparent. The procedural requirements for transmission of securities will continue governed under the Sebi's LODR (Listing Obligations and Disclosures Requirements) Rules, 2015, and the Master Circular for RTAs dated June 23, 2025, as updated from time to time. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has invited public comments on the draft circular till September 2. Sebi said RTAs, listed issuers, depositories and depository participants will be required to make necessary system changes to adopt the 'TLH' code within three months of the issuance of this circular.
