Post offices across India to start accepting digital payments from August
QR-based booking of mail products was successfully carried out at the Mysore head office (HO), Bagalkot HO and its subordinate offices
Press Trust of India New Delhi
Post offices across India will start accepting digital payments at counters from August after completing the rollout of a new application in their IT system, official sources said.
Post offices have not been able to accept digital payments as they don't have their accounts synced with UPI (unique payment interface) system.
"The Department of Posts is implementing its IT infrastructure which will have new applications that are enabled to perform transactions with Dynamic QR Code. Rollout will be completed at all post offices by August 2025," an official source told PTI.
Pilot rollout of the new system under IT 2.0 has been started in the Karnataka circle. QR-based booking of mail products was successfully carried out at the Mysore head office (HO), Bagalkot HO and its subordinate offices.
Initially, the Department of Post had introduced static QR code at the point of sale counters at the post offices to enable digital transactions.
However, due to recurring technical difficulties and customer complaints, this approach had to be discontinued.

India-Bangladesh trade: India curbs cetain jute imports from Bangladesh via land, allows only Nhava Sheva port access
India on Friday banned imports of certain jute products and woven fabrics from Bangladesh through all land routes, permitting entry only via the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra, amid increasingly strained relations between the two nations. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification, said 'Import from Bangladesh shall not be allowed from any land port on the India-Bangladesh border. However, it is allowed only through Nhava Sheva seaport.' It added, 'Imports of certain goods from Bangladesh to India are regulated with immediate effect.' The restricted items include jute products, flax tow and waste, jute and other bast fibres, single and multiple jute yarns, woven fabrics of flax, and unbleached woven fabrics of jute, PTI reported. The DGFT clarified that these restrictions will not apply to Bangladeshi goods transiting through India to Nepal and Bhutan. However, re-exports of these products from Bangladesh to India via Nepal and Bhutan will not be allowed. This move marks the third such curtailment in recent months. On May 17, India imposed similar port restrictions on imports from Bangladesh, including ready-made garments and processed food items. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Earlier on April 9, the government withdrew transshipment facilities previously extended to Bangladesh for exports to the Middle East and Europe, with exceptions made only for Nepal and Bhutan. The fresh restrictions come against the backdrop of controversial remarks made by Bangladesh's interim head of government Muhammad Yunus during his visit to China—comments that drew criticism from Indian political leaders across party lines. Tensions have escalated in recent months as India expressed concern over Yunus' failure to curb attacks on religious minorities, especially Hindus. The issue was reportedly discussed at a meeting of a parliamentary committee on Friday, which also flagged Bangladesh's growing proximity with China and Pakistan, according to sources as quoted by PTI. Bangladesh is a significant competitor to India in the textile sector. Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $12.9 billion in 2023–24, with India's exports at $11.46 billion and imports at $2 billion. ICAI to limit individual tax audits by CAs to 60 annually from April 2026
Chartered accountants will be individually allowed to carry out only up to 60 tax audits in a financial year, with the ICAI taking a decision to implement the limit from April 1, 2026. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which also regulates the chartered accountants, has more than four lakh members. ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda on Friday said the limit of 60 tax audits is already in place but a chartered accountant is also permitted to carry out the audits for partners also. For example, if there are four partners in an audit firm, each partner can also do the audit for another partner. While the audit firm can carry out up to 240 audits, a partner can do more than 60 audits individually now. The decision has been taken to limit the tax audits to 60 for an individual partner, he said. "It is going to be in force from the next financial year starting from April 1, 2026," Nanda said at a briefing in the national capital. The limit of 60 will be the aggregate limit in respect of all tax audits signed by a member (chartered accountant), both in his individual capacity and as a partner of a firm(s). Further, a partner of a firm cannot sign any tax audit report on behalf of any other partner. There will also be certain relaxations to the limit. To a query from PTI on whether the limit is also aimed at curbing malpratices, Nanda replied in the affirmative. "With the UDIN we have control over each and everything. We are totally working towards (curbing) malpractices," he said. Amid instances of misdoings and complaints of signatures of chartered accountants being forged, ICAI has put in place the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) system. UDIN is a unique number generated for every document certified or attested by a practising chartered accountant. Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting comments on the draft overseas networking guidelines for domestic chartered accountant firms has been extended till July 16. Earlier this month, ICAI issued the draft overseas networking guidelines and the move is part of continuing efforts to expand the reach of chartered accountant firms and create large domestic entities that will be capable of competing globally. "These guidelines are meant to promote networking amongst one or more chartered accountant firm (s) registered with ICAI with networks or entities established and registered outside India in their respective jurisdiction," ICAI had said.

Finance Minister urges PSU banks to boost credit growth, maintain profits
During a meeting to review financial performance of PSBs, Sitharaman asked their chiefs to maintain profitability momentum in FY26, sources said Press Trust of India New Delhi Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday asked public sector banks (PSBs) to take advantage of Reserve Bank's jumbo 50 basis points rate cut to increase lending toward productive sectors of the economy. During a meeting to review financial performance of PSBs, Sitharaman asked their chiefs to maintain profitability momentum in FY26, sources said. Cumulative profit of 12 PSBs rose to record Rs 1.78 lakh crore in FY25, registering a growth of 26 per cent over the previous year. The year-on-year increase in profit in absolute terms was about Rs 37,100 crore in FY25. According to sources, the minister expected that PSBs credit growth should improve post 50-bps rate cut by RBI. Banks were also directed to try maintain the FY25 credit growth level or increase during the current financial year. On June 6, the RBI's six-member monetary policy committee, headed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra lowered the benchmark repurchase or repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.5 per cent. It also slashed the cash reserve ratio by 100 basis points to 3 per cent in tranches that will add Rs 2.5 lakh crore to already surplus liquidity in the banking system. She also emphasised that banks should also onboard more customers on government's schemes in a bid to increase financial inclusion. Comprehensive review of various segments and progress in government schemes including Kisan Credit Card, PM Mudra and three social security schemes -- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) were done during the meeting. Besides, the banks were also advised to work on ways to garner more low cost deposits. On the asset quality side, the finance minister appreciated the low level of non-performing assets in the banking sector and exuded confidence that the top management will ensure to keep it at that level.
