
1200 Engineering Graduates Step into the Future at CMRIT's 22nd Graduation Day
The event commenced with a warm Welcome Address by Dr. Sanjay Jain, Principal of CMRIT, who highlighted the institute's remarkable achievements over the past year. This was followed by the administration of the Graduation Oath to the graduates by the ProVost of CMR University, Dr. Tristha Ramamurthy.
Padma Shri Prashanth Prakash, Founder of Accel India and Co-founder of Unboxing BLR Foundation, delivered an inspiring address as the Chief Guest, motivating students to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations and develop their own startups using AI which can redefine the potential of various industries like agriculture, manufacturing, defence and IT. He inspired the students to dream of a Vikasit Bharat where everybody grows together.
Guest of Honour Dr. K.C. Ramamurthy, IPS (Retd.), Former Member of the Rajya Sabha and Chairman of CMR Group of Institutions and CMR University, praised the graduates for their accomplishments and urged them to continue learning and growing in their respective fields. He also appreciated the efforts of the faculties who have worked hard to transform students into better citizens, who with their perseverance shall make the country a better place.
Devesh, a CSE graduate, shared his experience of starting a company under the guidance of the faculty. He also motivated his fellow classmates to dream big, assuring them that dreams never fade into oblivion. Nithin Kushalappa, an alumnus, was honoured with the Silver Jubilee Alumni Excellence Award 2025 for his book Dakshin. He is also the recipient of the Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025. The ceremony was also attended by Jayadeep K.R. Reddy, Pro Chancellor of CMR University, Sri K.C. Jagantha Reddy, Secretary of the CMR Jnanadhara Trust, Dr. B. Narasimha Murthy, Vice Principal of CMRIT and Dr.Chitra,Dean - Academics and IQAC.

India's PDS Ltd reports strong GMV growth, EBITDA down 31% in Q1 FY26
Indian apparel manufacturing company PDS Limited has announced its consolidated financial results for the first quarter (Q1) of fiscal 2026 (FY26), reporting a 14 per cent year-over-year (YoY) rise in revenue from operations to ₹2,999 crore (~$329.89 million). The company's gross merchandise value (GMV) surged 19 per cent quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) to ₹4,634 crore (~$509.74 million), reflecting strong demand across its global client base. The gross profit for the quarter reached ₹582 crore, up 7 per cent from the previous quarter. Despite the top-line growth, profitability saw a dip. EBITDA declined 31 per cent to ₹51 crore, while profit after tax (PAT) fell 36 per cent to ₹20 crore in Q1 FY26, compared to ₹31 crore in Q4 FY25. India's PDS Limited has reported a 14 per cent YoY rise in Q1 FY26 revenue to ₹2,999 crore (~$329.89 million), with GMV up 19 per cent QoQ. Despite growth, EBITDA fell 31 per cent and PAT declined 36 per cent. The company remains focused on operational efficiency and long-term growth, supported by an asset-light model, strategic restructuring, and promising cost optimisation measures. PDS continues to support global brands and retailers with product development, sourcing, manufacturing, and brand management services. The company remains focused on driving operational efficiencies and long-term strategic growth, even as it navigates profitability challenges in a dynamic global retail environment, it said in a press release. 'While Q1 FY26 reflects a dip in profitability owing to macroeconomic headwinds, we remain firmly on track to deliver on our long-term growth vision. PDS's asset-light, demand-responsive model continues to enable scalable solutions across key global markets. The recent India-UK FTA marks a pivotal step toward enhanced trade flows and deeper partnerships, especially given our strong presence in Europe and the UK,' said Pallak Seth, executive vice chairman at PDS Limited . New US tariff puts pressure on Indian textile exporters despite edge over Bangladesh, Cambodia
Agencies Representative image Its mixed bag for Indian textile and apparel exporters who are going to be in an advantageous position for exports to the US as compared to the production hubs in Bangladesh and Cambodia whose tariffs are more, while countries like Indonesia and Vietnam may emerge as new competitors for India in this US has announced 25% tariff and additional penalty duty will be imposed on India from August while it has already imposed 35% and 36% tariffs on Bangladesh and Cambodia respectively. However, the US tariff on Indonesia and Vietnam is lower at 19% and 20% respectively. Till now, the tariff to the US from India was 10%.'The new tariff rate is going to seriously test the resolve and resilience of India's textile and apparel exporters as we will not enjoy a significant duty differential advantage vis-à-vis many other countries, except Bangladesh, with whom we compete for a larger share of the US market,' said Rakesh Mehra, chairman of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).The US is India's largest market for textile and apparel exports. During January-May 2025, US imports of textile and apparel from India were valued at $4.59 billion, a rise of more than 13% compared to the same period last year. China is the biggest exporter to the US followed by Vietnam, India and Bangladesh. The industry now expects the tariff issue to get resolved following the bilateral trade agreement between India and US. Sanjay Jain, managing director of TT Industries, said India had aimed at 10-15% growth in its textiles exports to the US which will be impacted due to the new tariff.
