Ryan Gosling's ‘Star Wars: Starfighter': Everything to know as Mia Goth takes on the Mikey Madison role

This is as close as we're going to get a Barbie-MaXXXine crossover. Mia Goth is joining the new Ryan Gosling-powered Star Wars installment, Starfighter, taking over the role originally offered Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison. The casting coup is the latest scrap of news about the anticipated project, which will be helmed by Shawn Levy and which had its coming-out party at Star Wars Celebration in April 2025. Here's everything we know so far about Star Wars: Starfighter. More from GoldDerby Danya Taymor could make Tony Awards history with a win for 'John Proctor Is the Villain' How 'Severance' creates Lumon's 'manufactured perfection' through VFX 'Say Nothing' star Anthony Boyle on playing IRA activist Brendan Hughes: We 'get to the humanity as opposed to the mythology' The are scant details about the plot, other than it is a one-off installment that involves Ryan Gosling's character and his young companion being pursued by villainous forces. Levy says that Starfighter will cover new territory in franchise storytelling and won't feature any of the major characters from prior releases. 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet,' the filmmaker said. 'The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,' said Gosling. 'It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.' Starfighter the movie is not related to the 2001 video game of the same name from LucasArts that was set on the planet of Naboo during the time period of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Starfighter takes place about five years after the events of the last Star Wars feature, 2019's Rise of Skywalker. READ: Levy, a four-time Emmy nominee for Stranger Things and whose credits also include Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy and Night at the Museum, has been developing the project for the past three years with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. The two previously collaborated on The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You. Gosling, a three-time Oscar nominee, was formally introduced as the lead at Star Wars Celebration after weeks of speculation. "That rumor is true," Levy said as he brought out his star to the stage to massive cheers. "The rumors are true." According to Variety, Mikey Madison was initially offered the female lead one of the baddies hunting down Gosling and his young sidekick. Madion reportedly turned down the role due to a pay dispute. It was confirmed that Mia Goth had accepted the role in June 2025. The news was initially reported by The InSneider. No other casting has been announced. Starfighter is slated to begin production in fall 2025 in England. Starfighter is scheduled to open May 28, 2027. I Didn't Have Jonathan Bailey Comparing Wicked To ‘Independence Day' On My Bingo Card, But I Honestly Think It Sounds Intense

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If you like Bridgerton alum Jonathan Bailey, the 2025 movie schedule is a boon for the senses. Not only will he be showing up in the summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, but he'll of course be returning to the role of the dreamy Fiyero - as we saw in Wicked: For Good's first trailer. Filming Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the Broadway legend was always going to be quite the experience; but I never thought the man would compare it to Roland Emmerich's Independence Day - though it makes total sense. Feel free to agree or disagree, courtesy of Mr. Bailey offering these recollections in a GQ profile: Being slightly off the M1 in Munchkinland, with Ari [that's Ariana Grande to you and I] singing a beautiful mezzo soprano, and then seeing cars pulling up on the hard shoulder trying to record it. And then seeing men in the sky, [which] turned out to be microlights and drones. It was like Independence Day. Ok, so it's not the residents of Munchkinland running from an exploding Empire State Building; but the comparison still stands. Imagining Wicked's award-nominated artistry being staged in a field in England, with all the bells and whistles, must have been exhilarating. Though that big about the drones and microlights may be the kicker, as the right time of day could make those look like something not of this Earth. It certainly sounds akin to watching Independence Day in the '90s, and being blown away by something like Bill Pullman's stirring, title-dependent speech. Only Jonathan Bailey was much closer to the action than a Peacock subscription would get you, and he technically got to watch a free Ariana Grande performance. Either way, there's a potential for fun Jeff Goldblum stories to crop up. Peacock TV: from $7.99 a month/$79.99 a yearIf you can't wait until November to rejoicify in the release of Wicked: For Good, a Peacock subscription could have you flying high until then! With access to Wicked, as well as some documentaries and November's upcoming live event, it'd be very hard to bring you down! And all it costs is as little as $7.99 a month, with the option to upgrade to premium ad-free Deal The reaction to the first half of Universal's two-part musical epic certainly made a similar impression to the debut of that 1996 sci-fi disaster epic. With Wicked banking various box office milestones, and even inspiring audiences to sing along (much to the chagrin of some parties), it was a movie truly of the moment. Wicked: For Good isn't due out until November 21st, but don't forget that you can stream Wicked on Peacock. As for Jonathan Bailey, he'll be next seen in Jurassic World Rebirth, which hits theaters on July 2nd - much sooner than what we know about Bridgerton Season 4, which will see him return to Netflix at some point in 2026.

IBEW Touts 'Landmark' New Tentative Agreement With CBS

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the largest union representing CBS employees, has reached a new tentative agreement with the network that it calls a 'landmark' deal with 'one of the most significant wage packages in the nearly 90-year history of the relationship.' 'This tentative agreement reflects a new era of partnership and progress that recognizes the important contributions of IBEW-represented technicians while embracing the challenges and opportunities of the future,' IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper said in a statement Tuesday. More from Deadline Deal!: Will Smith Music Video Shoot IATSE Picket Over As Producers & Union Reach Agreement, With Oscar Winner's Help – Update 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming How To Watch The 2025 American Music Awards 'From news and sports to streaming and operations, IBEW members are the engine behind CBS's continued success, just like they have been since 1939. We believe this agreement not only speaks to CBS's commitment to national and local broadcasting, it also reinforces the value of skilled union labor and reflects a shared vision for adapting to the fast-evolving media landscape,' Cooper's statement continued. Specific details of the deal have not been disclosed, given that members still need to vote to ratify it. In addition to wage increases, the IBEW says the agreement establishes a framework for conversations between the union and CBS on artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, particularly impacting broadcast. Added George Cheeks, Co-CEO, Paramount Global and President & CEO of CBS: 'The skilled technicians and valued employees represented by IBEW have been a bedrock of CBS's success since the early days of television, and that continues as we chart our future together. I want to thank IBEW leaders Kenneth Cooper and Robert Prunn for setting the tone in a collaborative, forward-looking negotiation that worked through issues together and delivered value for all our stakeholders.'
