Paul Hughes doesn't recognize the Conor McGregor who lashed out, doubts they mend fences
Like many Irish fighters, Hughes looked up to the former UFC two-division champion. Up until his title fight against Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov at PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai last month, Hughes had McGregor's support.
Hughes lost a close decision to Nurmagomedov, which McGregor called a robbery. But after Hughes paid his respects to the Nurmagomedov team by saying, 'I'm not like that other guy,' in reference to McGregor's hatred towards Khabib Nurmagomedov, 'The Notorious' went off on him.
'Everyone's seen my response to it; it wasn't a very militant response,' Hughes told MMA Junkie Radio. 'It was what it was. It ended up a lot of people done the fighting for me in terms of the comments and the pushback. So yeah, it was what it was.'
Seeing your idol insult you is never a good feeling, but Hughes insists McGregor is a changed man – for the worse.
'Even at the time, I did not take it personal,' Hughes added. 'I think unfortunately it's not the Conor we once knew in, say, 2016. People were saying, 'Is it sad to hear that from you idol or someone you looked up to?' Unfortunately, that's not the person that tweeted that message. It's of course not something I wish on anybody. I kind of think it's a sad thing, but that's just what it is.'
With McGregor claiming that Northern Ireland is not a part of Ireland, Hughes can't take a personal attack on his background lightly.
'Right now, I would say no,' Hughes said. 'Because of not me personally – I can make up with anybody – but more so because of where I come from and how deeply insulting it was, the thing that he said to the people. Where I come from, it's probably the worst and most disrespectful thing you could say to someone is that they are not Irish, being from the north of Ireland that I am. On that behalf, it wouldn't be mendable right now.'

UFC 319 lineup hit by injuries: King Green withdraws from undercard bout saying he 'can't even walk'
With UFC 319 still two days away, the lineup has lost two scheduled bouts due to injury. King Green, who had been scheduled to face Carlos Diego Ferreira on the undercard of Saturday's pay-per-view event in Chicago, said his injury was so severe it forced him to break his own rule ahead of the fight. 'Back in the days I've had pullouts, but somewhere along the line I said I'm not ever pulling out of a fight,' Green said in a video posted to his Instagram account Thursday afternoon. 'If I got to f***ing limp my ass there, I'll limp into the cage. I'm never pulling out. This one is a little bit different. I can't even f***ing walk, guys.' Green showed off his crutches in the video, but did not elaborate on specifics about the injury. Ferreira said he was midway through his weight cut when he was informed Green was out, but said he wasn't given a reason for the withdrawal. It's the second bout on the UFC 319 fight card to suffer a late scratch. The prelim fight between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko that was to serve as the welterweight final of the most recent season of 'The Ultimate Fighter' was called off after Sezinando pulled out with a late injury. TUF 33, coached by Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, still has a flyweight final between Alibi Idiris and Joseph Morales slated for the UFC 319 lineup. The welterweight final between Sezinando and Donchenko is expected to be rescheduled for later this year. As for Green, this fight was to be his attempt to snap a two-fight losing skid. The 38-year-old lightweight has lost three of his last four. There's no word yet on when he might be able to return to action, or whether the bout with Ferreira will be rescheduled. The current UFC 319 lineup now includes 13 bouts, with UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev serving as Saturday night's main event.

Top 2027 Florida defensive lineman will visit Notre Dame when they face Texas A&M
Notre Dame football has a few marquee home games this fall, but the contest on Sep. 13th against Texas A&M is beginning to look like its going to be a major recruiting weekend. Multiple prospects have already made their decision to be in South Bend for the game, and on Thursday another joined them in 2027 Florida defensive lineman Santana Harvey. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 220-pound prospect announced his fall visit schedule, as he will also make visits to see Clemson, Florida, SMU, and Michigan. Harvey will visit the Bulldogs twice this coming fall, so you have to believe that they are the current front runners in his recruitment. As the nation's No. 303 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, many top teams are in pursuit of the edge rusher. The Irish will have plenty to sell Harvey when he makes his visit, as they have shown they aren't afraid to play multiple defensive lineman, and true-freshman if they are ready. This could play a big part in Notre Dame's recruitment of the talented Floridian.
