Merchant ship rescues Vietnamese sailor adrift in South China Sea
KUANTAN: A Vietnamese national believed to have fallen overboard from his vessel was rescued adrift at sea by the merchant ship MV Maersk Norberg in the South China Sea, approximately 205 nautical miles northeast of Kuantan yesterday.
Le Truong Giang, 38, was reported to be in stable condition and did not require medical assistance.
Pahang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, First Admiral Mazlan Mat Rejab, said the Kuantan Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) was alerted to the incident at around 10pm.
"The merchant ship sent an email notifying the rescue centre about the incident. The victim is in good health and has been provided with food and other basic necessities.
"Since he does not require medical attention, the ship will disembark him at its port of destination in Tanjung Pelepas, Johor. MV Maersk Norberg is expected to arrive in Johor on May 19," he said in a statement today.
Mazlan said that the Johor Baru MRSC has been informed, and the individual will be handed over to the authorities for further investigation.
He urged the public to report any illegal activities or emergencies at sea by contacting the Malaysia Emergency Response Services (MERS 999) or the Pahang Maritime Operations Centre at 09-5717345.

[UPDATED] Port Klang boat capsize: Last two victims' bodies recovered
PORT KLANG: The last two bodies from the boat capsize incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan were found during a search and rescue (SAR) operation which resumed at 7am today Selangor State Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operations officer Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali said both bodies were discovered at around 7.45am by assets conducting patrols near the National Hydrographic Centre here. "MMEA's vessel KM Danga located the body of a woman and carried out the recovery, while the Fire and Rescue Department deployed their assets and successfully recovered the body of a man. "Both bodies were found floating, approximately 200 metres apart," he told reporters after the victims' bodies were brought ashore at the Selangor MMEA Jetty. He said the location where the bodies were discovered was about 0.1 nautical miles from the National Hydrographic Centre. He said both bodies were brought to the Selangor MMEA Jetty before being handed over to the police for further action. "The SAR operation was officially called off at 9.50am today. "The operation, coordinated by the MMEA, will be concluded once official instructions are received. "All assets involved have since returned safely to their respective bases," he added. He also reminded the maritime community always to prioritise safety and wear life jackets when conducting any activity at sea. Earlier, it was reported that three people, including a three-year-old child, died after their boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan on Friday.
