Trump tells Starmer his North Sea oil taxes 'make no sense' in new lecture for PM after president uses visit to hand out advice on beating Farage
The day after pouring praise over Sir Keir as they met face-to-face in Scotland the president took to social media to complain about levies on fossil fuels, saying they are 'so high ... it makes no sense'.
It came as the president, who is on a 'working holiday' in Britain, prepares to open a new golf course at his club near Aberdeen, the centre of the UK oil industry.
In an impromptu doorstep spray with the PM at a course on the other side of Scotland, Trump gently praised Aberdeen as the oil capital of Europe and repeated his long opposition to wind turbines, calling them 'ugly monsters'.
But posting on his Truth Social network this morning the president was more blunt, repeating his frequent past criticism of the taxes.
'North Sea Oil is a treasure chest for the United Kingdom,' he said.
'The taxes are so high, however, that it makes no sense. They have essentially told drillers and oil companies that, ''we don't want you''.
'Incentivize the drillers, fast. A vast fortune to be made for the UK, and far lower energy costs for the people!'
But posting on his Truth Social network this morning the president was more blunt.
Mr Trump will cut the ribbon on a second 18-hole course at his resort in Menie, Aberdeenshire before he flies back to the US on Air Force One.
The president has played several rounds of golf during his Scottish trip, teeing off at his other resort in Turnberry, Ayrshire, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
As they met at Turnberry for bilateral talks on trade and the situation in Gaza, Mr Trump and Sir Keir took part in what proved to be a lengthy press conference, with the president discussing a number of topics.
The Republican Party leader spoke of his 'great love' for Scotland and said he wanted to see the nation 'thrive'.
The PM stood up for green energy, saying: 'We believe in a mix, and obviously oil and gas will be with us for a very long time, and that'll be part of the mix, but also wind, solar, increasingly nuclear (power),' he said.
Trump also used the wide-ranging press conference to advise his 'not too liberal' friend to cut taxes and immigration if he wanted to beat Nigel Farage at the next election.
Without any awkwardness about playing one mate off against the other the president used the hour-long televised bromantic encounter on the plane to tell the PM to cut taxes and stop 'murderers and drug dealers' from coming to Britain.
While Sir Keir sat beside him, barely speaking and with an impassive look on his face, he was full of praise for the Prime Minister and the way he was running the country, despite their ideological differences, saying Sir Keir was was 'liberal ..but not too liberal' in his approach.
Mr Trump added: 'I think the one that's toughest and most competent on immigration is going to win the election, but then you add… low taxes, and you add the economy.
'(Sir Keir) did a great thing with the economy, because a lot of money is going to come in because of the deal that was made. But I think that, I think that immigration is now bigger than ever before.'
The president had earlier told Sir Keir Britain and the rest of Europe it must stop illegal immigration to avoid 'ruin' as the two leaders met in Scotland today.

Trump reveals $200M plan for golden ballroom in ‘modernized' White House East Wing
It's the golden makeover the White House didn't know it needed. Construction crews will soon break ground on the massive, gilded ballroom that President Donald Trump hopes to use for state dinners and other events before the end of his term in 2029, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed Thursday. Leavitt told reporters that construction of the 90,000-square-foot ballroom — containing what she described as 'a much-needed and exquisite addition' of 'innately designed and carefully crafted space' — would begin in September. 'The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world, yet the White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building entrance,' she said. Leavitt added that the new 'White House State Ballroom' would be a 'much-needed and exquisite addition of approximately 90,000 total square feet of innately designed and carefully crafted space, with a seated capacity of 650 people — a significant increase from the 200-person seated capacity in the East Room of the White House.' The new event facility will be built on the site of the White House's East Wing, which currently stands between the Executive Residence and Treasury Department headquarters. First built in 1902 and enlarged with a second floor four decades later, it houses offices for First Lady Melania Trump and her staff, the White House Military Office, the White House Visitor Office, and other White House support functions. Leavitt said those offices would be temporarily relocated during the construction. According to Leavitt, the East Wing will be 'heavily changed and reconstructed' once the new ballroom is completed. She also told reporters that the addition to the White House complex will cost approximately $200 million, with the funds to come from President Trump and unspecified private donors. And while it will be 'substantially separated from the main building of the White House,' Leavitt stressed that it will be nearly identical in 'theme and architectural heritage' to the existing facilities. An interior rendering of the ballroom provided by the White House reveals a massive hall with ornate ceilings and chandeliers, replete with gold leaf throughout. The image is reminiscent of the ballroom which Trump had built on the grounds of Mar-a-Lago, the historic 1920s-era Palm Beach mansion that is both a private club run by his family's eponymous hotel and real estate company and his primary residence. Since returning to the White House for his second term in January, Trump has sought to update the appearance of the historic facility to make it more to his liking. He enlisted a cabinetmaker he has previously employed at Mar-a-Lago, who he referred to as his 'gold guy,' to give multiple surfaces in the Oval Office his own Midas touch, leaving the iconic room adorned with ostentatious splashes of pure gold leaf paint in places where there was no such ornamentation before. He has also ordered the iconic Kennedy Rose Garden to be converted into a patio much like the one on which he entertains guests at his Florida social club. The rose bushes that have ringed the area since the Kennedy administration remain, but the grass surface that has been the site of numerous events just outside of the Oval Office has been replaced with paving stones.

FANS of Greggs will want to race to a major supermarket - as new menu items launch later this year. The new range of five products will be available from September. They will be available at over 800 Tesco stores across the country. Greggs' 'Bake at Home' frozen range includes a number of fan favourite food items. While the range is already available at Iceland, it is now set to go country-wide with Tesco. The frozen goodies originally launched in 2011, when the iconic sausage rolls were sold in frozen form in 10 stores across Liverpool. In the years since, the Iceland range has extended to 15 beloved products. It includes the Greggs Sausage Rolls, Cheese & Onion Bakes, Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melts, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, and Bacon & Cheese Wraps, as well as Vegetable Bakes and Vegan Sausage Rolls. While Tesco haven't yet announced which products will be in their line-up, it's the perfect excuse to try out the convenient at-home baked goods. Earlier this week, the popular bakery chain launched another new offer to appeal to more customers. For the first time ever, it is offering customers a three-part breakfast deal.
