Father of murdered Euclid officer speaks out for first time: I-Team
EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — This weekend marks one year since Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin was shot and killed in the line of duty.
And for the first time, his father, a fellow officer, speaks out about loss of his hero, his son.
'It hurts,' said Euclid K-9 Officer Vince Trusso, father of Jacob Derbin. 'It hurts every single day.'
Trusso, opened up to the I-Team, to share his story. Saying it is tough for him to believe his son died a year ago.

'It seems like last night ,' Trusso said. 'I keep thinking he is going to call.'
Trusso said last year on May 11 he was off work when he got a call from his supervisor.
'I remember asking if he needed me and the dog and he said for me to get to the hospital,' Trusso said. 'That's when my heart sunk.'
Jacob Derbin was shot and killed after he responded to a domestic call. The suspect hiding in the back yard of the victim's home, ambushed Derbin. Derbin was taken to the hospital and died a short time later. The suspect died by suicide the next day.
Trusso worked with his son on the same department for less than a year but says he treasures the moments the two shared. He said a few times the two ended up on the same call and he remembers once searching for a suspect, and his son was behind him, watching his back.
'I never felt so secure. He was just a big wonderful guy, he was just a wonderful person,' Trusso said. 'I don't know if he wanted to follow my footsteps because he had his own way of doing things, but I watched my son in the 10 months with the Euclid Police Department become a man.'
Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer said the night the shooting happened, Jacob was more concerned about his fellow officers. He said Jacob yelled out a warning after being shot.
'He is the epitome of a hero,' Meyer said. 'He also returned fire and I believe that his actions and his vocalizations are what led to the safety of the two other officers that were with him.'
Jacob's mother, Dawn, also told us it was her son's dream to become a police officer. She said he always looked up to his grandfather, who also was an officer.
Jacob died just weeks before his wedding day.
Trusso said the past year has been difficult adjusting to life without his son. He added that the love and strength he has received from his fellow officers has helped him return to work.
'Vince is my friend he's also a brother in our lives he's our union brother a police brother ,' said Euclid Detective Steve Shubert. 'We are a family here.'

Trusso said he wants to make sure Jacob is always remembered.'My life's changed completely, my whole family's life changed completely,' Trusso said. 'I really don't think there is anybody that can say anything bad about him. My hero.'

Dem Golden Boy Abrego Garcia Returns
Well the Democrats got their wish, their martyr Kilmar Abrego Garcia returned to the US to face charges. I'm Tomi Lahren, more next. The Democrats' golden boy Kilmar Abrego Garcia was brought back to the US from his home country of El Salvador to face charges including human trafficking here in Tennessee. In an interview with NBC News, President Trump said it wasn't his decision to bring Abrego Garcia back to the US but that the DOJ decided to do it that way and that's fine. I can't help but think what a giant waste of US taxpayers dollars it was to fly him all the way back here, go through the rigamarole of criminal charges, pay for his room and board, all to send him right back to his home country of El Salvador. But THIS is what the Democrats want. They'll do anything to keep their illegal aliens in your community and they'll waste your hard earned money to do it and stretch out the process as long as possible. This is the hill they're willing to die on and this is the man they're willing to defend till the end. A man who was here illegally for years, has credible allegations of gang affiliation, protective orders from his wife, and actual footage of his alleged human trafficking. Ladies and gentlemen, the Democrat Party is for they/them and Abrego Garcia, not for you! I'm Tomi Lahren and you watch my show 'Tomi Lahren is Fearless' at Learn more about your ad choices. Visit

Teen murdered in Brickell high-rise was stabbed to death as he slept, Miami police say
A teen who was murder over the weekend at a Brickell luxury high-rise was stabbed to death as he slept, according to new information released by Miami police. Sunday morning, around 2 a.m., officers were sent to the Icon Brickell complex, at 485 Brickell Avenue, after police received word of a stabbing. In an apartment on the 34th floor, they found the body of 17-year-old Dominic Ferrell. Stabbing suspect found dead nearby Investigators reviewed surveillance tape video, which showed one man running away from the building, according to police. SWAT officers searched a nearby building still under construction and found the suspect dead. He's been identified as 26-year-old Kyrill R. Kehl. "The suspect leaves the apartment building and goes across the street to a construction site and goes at least 100 to 200 feet and then jumps or falls to his death," Miami police Officer Michael Vega said. What led to the stabbing According to police, Kehl loitered in the lobby for a while before getting on an elevator. "We know the suspect was in the lobby for a bit before some residents went on the elevator. He tagged along with them and went up to the 40 something floor and knocked on several doors and tried to open the doors. He eventually goes down to the 34th floor and goes to the victim's door. He then goes to the bedroom where the 17 year old is sleeping and stabs him to death," Vega said. Investigators said another person was also asleep in the apartment where Ferrell was killed. According to police, Kehl arrived in South Florida from Arizona two days before the stabbing. He was not staying at the Brickell complex. Investigators are trying to piece together what led to the stabbing. "We know there may have been some mental health issues probably leading to this but until we get toxicology results we will not know what was in his system," Vega said. He added that Kehl and Ferrel were strangers. "We know for a fact that they did not know each other. They were strangers and this guy was just going from apartment to apartment, opening and knocking on doors, so again it is very important to lock your doors and do not open them to strangers," Vega said.
