The 16-year-old boy had gone missing in the water, and rescue teams scoured the area on Thursday.
He was sadly found dead in Powells Pool that evening.
The football player's old team paid tribute to him, posting a photo of the Year 11 pupil on Facebook.
Northfield Town FC said: "One of our talented former junior players, Daniel Drewitt, passed away yesterday evening following a tragic accident at Sutton Park.
"Daniel was a fantastic young man who always wore a smile on his face whether on or off the pitch and was loved by so many.
"Everyone at Northfield Town FC send their thoughts and heart felt condolences to the family, friends and former teammates."
His grandparents said: "That's our beautiful grandson, who had his whole life ahead of him.
"We will never recover from this, love you loads Daniel and miss you so much."
Staff at Colmers School and Sixth Form College also paid tribute to the boy.
A spokesperson said: "Daniel was a young man who brought light and character to our entire school community; he was confident, full of life, a talented sportsman and so deeply loved by staff and fellow pupils alike.
"His warm presence and positive spirit will be sorely missed.
"We know how deeply this loss will be felt by many and we are committed to ensuring no member of our school community feels alone in their grief.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Daniel's family."
This comes after West Midlands Police were called to Powell's Pool in Sutton Park, Birmingham, at around 6pm on Thursday.
An urgent search was launched to locate the teenager, with specialist officers scouring the area.
Fire service rescue crews from Bickenhill and nearby Sutton Coldfield were also called to the scene.
West Midlands Fire Service confirmed they also arrived just after 6pm.
The whole of Powell's Pool was cordoned off with police tape.
Daniel was sadly recovered from the water at around 10pm.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cops say the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
The Our Sutton Park community group has thanked fishermen, who reportedly jumped in the water to try and help Daniel.
The group said it wanted to send its "deepest condolences to the parents of the young boy".
Birmingham City Council leader John Cotton said it came as a "terrible tragedy".
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "The body of a teenage boy has been recovered from a pool in Sutton Park, Birmingham, this evening.
"West Midlands Police are supporting the family of the boy at this tragic time.
"Extensive efforts by all emergency services were carried out following the boy going missing in the water just after 6pm.
"Specialist teams were deployed from fire and rescue, ambulance colleagues, and Birmingham City Council colleagues.
"Sadly this has resulted in the boy's body being found and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
"His death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and we are liaising with the coroner."
This comes after Midlands Air Ambulance previously announced there were 18 accidental drowning deaths in the West Midlands region last year.
The charity urged people to be mindful in the water.
In 2001 teenager Fraser Amiss died after diving into Powell's Pool with a couple of pals.
It comes as Brits flock to bodies of water to cool off as the UK sees scorching temperatures.

Trial date set for teenagers charged with murder at seaside resort
A trial date has been set for three teenagers who are charged with the murder of a man at a seaside resort. Kent Police were called to the Warden Bay Road area of Leysdown-on-Sea, on the Isle of Sheppey, shortly after 7pm on Sunday, after an altercation involving a small number of people. Alexander Cashford, 49, was confirmed dead at the scene, and police said multiple injuries to his body were reported. A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, all from London and thought to have been on holiday in Kent at the time of the attack, were charged with murder on Tuesday. On Thursday, a provisional trial date was set at Maidstone Crown Court for January 13 next year. The three are jointly charged with murder after a 'violent assault' took place near the beach in Warden Bay. The defendants, two of whom appeared separately in court on Thursday and spoke only to confirm their names, were accompanied in court by their parents and other family members. The 15-year-old boy is due to appear later. The attack is alleged to have involved a glass bottle and rocks being thrown, the court heard. On Thursday, the prosecution said the cause of Mr Cashford death is currently inconclusive as he seems to have suffered a 'medical episode such as a cardiac arrest could have been brought on by being chased and attacked'. A 12-year-old girl, arrested on Tuesday in Basildon, Essex, has been bailed. The 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation. A plea and trial preparation date has been set for November 6.

More than 100 migrants in one vessel thought to have bumped crossings to 27,799
A vessel carrying more than 100 migrants is thought to have helped bring the number of small boat arrivals to 27,799 this year. Home Office figures show 325 migrants crossed the English Channel by small boat on Wednesday, in the same week that the number of arrivals since Labour won the election hit 50,000. The PA news agency understands that 106 people attempted the crossing between France and the Kent coast on a single boat. A total of 51,041 migrants have been detected crossing the Channel since Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer entered No 10 on July 5 last year. A former home secretary has said that the figure 'demonstrates the way over the last six or seven years that the criminal gangs have got an absolute foothold in the tragic trafficking of people across the Channel'. Baroness Jacqui Smith of Malvern, who is now an education and women and equalities minister, told BBC Breakfast on Monday: 'It is an unacceptable number of people.' Speaking on the Isle of Wight this week, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch said: 'My team are now looking at what we can do in terms of detention centres, but stopping people from coming here in the first place – if they think they're going to be sent to Rwanda and not get here, get a free hotel, get benefits, then they won't come here.' Asked if her party could reduce the five-figure numbers to zero if it was in power, Mrs Badenoch said she thought 'it wouldn't happen straight away, but it would happen quickly'.

Wrexham poised to break club transfer record for Nathan Broadhead
Wrexham are ready to break their transfer record in a deal worth up to £10million for Ipswich striker Nathan Broadhead, according to reports. The Red Dragons have tracked the 27-year-old Wales international for several weeks and are widely reported to be finalising the move after Ipswich signed Chuba Akpom from Ajax. Broadhead is in the final year of his contract at Ipswich, having joined them on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. Bangor-born Broadhead was in the Wrexham youth system before joining Everton at the age of 10. Wrexham have broken their transfer record numerous times since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took control of the club in 2021. Lewis O'Brien joined from Nottingham Forest in a reported £3m deal last month, the midfielder one of several signings as Sky Bet Championship new boys Wrexham invested heavily ahead of their first campaign in the second tier of English football for 43 years. Broadhead would be Wrexham's ninth signing since they were promoted from League One last season. He has won 14 caps for Wales, scoring twice, and would join international team-mates Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore at the SToK Cae Ras.
