Buffalo Bills predicted to trade for former No. 5 overall pick

The Buffalo Bills are still chasing an elusive Super Bowl.
This season, they've put together a strong roster in the hopes of finally getting over the hump. But there's always room to improve.
That's the premise put forth by Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox in a new article featuring key trade predictions that may still happen before Week 1 gets here. And he's got the Bills making a big move.
Knox predicts the Bills will trade for New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was the No. 5 overall pick in 2022.

In return, Buffalo would send the Giants a 2026 second-round pick and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones.
"Partnering Thibodeaux with Joey Bosa, Gregory Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa would give the Bills a potent pass-rushing rotation, however," writes Knox. "And Buffalo could look to offload pricey defensive tackle DaQuan Jones as part of the deal. Dumping the final year of Jones' contract would save $7.8 million in cap space while making room for offseason additions Larry Ogunjobi, T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker—though Ogunjobi faces a six-game suspension."
Knox also breaks down why Thibodeaux makes more sense than Micah Parsons. The Bills don't really have the cap space to pull off a Parsons trade and then sign him to a record-setting extension.
Of course, in the NFL, the salary cap finds a way to be very malleable.

It still makes more sense that Buffalo would maybe take the mid-tier swing here on Thibodeaux.
The former Oregon star has played three NFL seasons and put up 21 sacks. That includes a career-best 11.5 in 2023.
Thibodeaux missed time last season and appeared in 12 games, finishing with 5.5 sacks.
He wouldn't have to be the lone star in Buffalo. Rousseau, Epenesa and Bosa would join forces with Thibodeaux to form a great unit.
It's at least worth the thought for the Bills.

Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson shine for Steelers in preseason opener

Aaron Rodgers recently said "preseason football is not necessarily real football." And he's right. Still, in August, preseason football is the closest thing we have to real football. And, on Saturday night, the two Steelers quarterbacks who played against the Jaguars did a pretty good job playing not necessarily real football. With Mason Rudolph taking only 15 snaps and Skylar Thompson handling 51, both performed very well. Rudolph, who got the start, completed nine of 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Passer rating? 135.0. With rookie Will Howard injured, Thompson handled the rest of the game. He completed 20 of 28 passes, generating 233 yards and three touchdown passes. Rating? 132.0. "Good to be back in the black and gold, man," Rudolph said after the game in a one-question press conference. (It was one more question than coach Mike Tomlin got.) Ideally, neither Rudolph nor Thompson (nor Howard) will handle anything more than garbage time this season. But maybe, if one or more of them are needed to play, the cause won't already be lost.

After spending the first seven years of his career with the LA Chargers, Austin Ekeler embarked on a new journey in the NFL last year. Having gotten to see one of the league's top young talents in Jayden Daniels up close, he gave him a slight edge over his former teammate. During his time with the Chargers, Ekeler got to play with another dynamic young quarterback in Justin Herbert. He had a lot of success in LA, breaking 1,000 scrimmage yards on four separate occasions. Ekeler didn't have the start he wanted to in Washington, only appearing in 12 games. However, he is eager to provide a boost this season in hopes of helping the Commanders contend in the NFC. When asked to pick between Daniels and Herbert, he went with the Commanders' star due to him being a dual threat. "I think Jayden's more dynamic, just his running ability," Ekeler said. "It gives him a little bit more of a factor to take over the game. Where if nothing's there, he can still go make guys miss and he's still flying down the field. Where I think Justin relies a little bit more on his arm." Ekeler also raved about playing with a QB who can pull off a big play at any moment with his arm or legs. "It's awesome to watch these games, the games are so exciting," he continued. "We're players but we still have fun watching everything." In ESPN's poll ranking the NFL's top QBs, Daniels (No. 5) finished two spots ahead of the Chargers star (No.7). Depending on how things unfold with Terry McLaurin, Washington might have a sizable void to fill. Being a dual threat himself in the backfield, Ekeler is someone capable of taking on more. However, for him to do so, he'll have to focus on staying healthy and on the field. For more Washington Commanders and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
