DGR, US delegation explore cooperation in several domains

U.S.
Consulate in Dubai. The meetings were attended by Hamad Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), Sara Abdelaziz Al Nuaimi, CEO of Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa); Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Murr Alnaqbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan; Dr. Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and Abdelaziz Alshamsi, Assistant Director General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI.
During the visit, the two parties discussed opportunities to deepen ties between Sharjah and American institutions and businesses and explored potential areas for future collaboration. As part of the programme, the delegation visited key entities across the emirate, including the Sharjah Executive Council, the Department of Economic Development, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, and the House of Wisdom.
Commenting on the visit, Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi reaffirmed Sharjah's commitment to strengthening engagement with global cultural and business communities. The Director noted that drawing on international experiences and cultivating relationships with global leaders contributes to the development of local institutions, stimulates economic and cultural growth, and further consolidates Sharjah's status as a leading international hub for culture, business, and sustainability.
Opportunities for collaboration in entrepreneurship and innovation
During a visit to Sheraa, the delegation was briefed on the centre's efforts to support entrepreneurs and emerging businesses. Discussions focused on potential collaboration areas in innovation and entrepreneurship, with particular emphasis on supporting start-ups and creative enterprises, as well as facilitating the exchange of expertise between Emirati and American institutions. Sheraa invited the
U.S.
delegation to participate in the forthcoming Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival.
The delegation expressed interest in initiatives to connect American start-ups with Sheraa, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering cross-border enterprises that drive the creative economy and open new avenues for expanded future cooperation.
Economic and developmental cooperation with American enterprises
As part of the agenda, the delegation visited the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD). They were briefed on the strengths of the local economy and the range of promising investment opportunities available across the emirate. Both parties discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and explored the potential for establishing strategic partnerships to drive growth and investment in sectors of mutual interest.
At the Sharjah Executive Council, the delegation was briefed on the emirate's development strategies and the breadth of investment opportunities in areas such as the creative economy, technology, and environmental sustainability. Both sides underscored the importance of advancing bilateral relations at a strategic level and reinforcing coordination between the public and private sectors.
Ecotourism, investment and knowledge exchange
As part of the visit, the delegation met with members of the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, who presented the city's ongoing tourism and development initiatives. Discussions explored collaboration opportunities in ecotourism and cultural tourism, highlighting Khorfakkan's distinctive natural and historical assets.
The delegation also met with representatives from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore prospects for trade and economic cooperation between the business communities of Sharjah and the United States. The talks included an overview of the incentives available to foreign investors, along with the facilities and support mechanisms offered to American entrepreneurs interested in accessing regional markets through Sharjah.
The visit concluded with a tour of the House of Wisdom, where the delegation explored its wide-ranging facilities and programmes that integrate culture, community engagement, and education. Discussions focused on the role of such centres in fostering cultural dialogue and supporting initiatives that promote knowledge exchange between nations.

However, the world is open, and the soul is prone to temptation. We tell the youth that the mosque is there, the university is there, and the school is there. We hope that falsehood does not come to them from within themselves.' Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), highlighted the capability of young people to change the world for the better in various ways. In a statement to mark International Youth Day 2025, Sheikha Latifa said it was vital that the youth were accorded the necessary encouragement to make a tangible impact in their respective communities and the world at large. She emphasised that there is something inherently unique about the way young people move through the world, stirring a curiosity about what might be achieved, reminding one and all of their own first encounters with possibility. The youth, Sheikha Latifa, said, may not always announce their impact, yet it happens in quiet but powerful ways, by challenging a habit, reimagining a process, or offering an idea no one thought to consider. Through their creativity, effortless ease as communicators, and spirit of collaboration, the youth are redefining progress, making it more inclusive, inventive, and responsive to the challenges the world faces, she said. The theme of this year's International Youth Day, 'Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,' reflects what is already unfolding in the UAE and beyond, Sheikha Latifa said. 'Young people engage with this world in a distinctive way. I am captivated by the passion I see in their eyes, and by the curiosity and love of exploration that characterises them. Over 190 Emiratis benefit from Dhs25 million Nafis support
Over 190 Emirati citizens working across 17 public benefit organisations registered with the Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) have benefited from financial support totaling approximately Dhs25 million through the Nafis programme, valid until June 2025. This initiative reflects the ministry's commitment to empowering citizens in the third sector, in collaboration with partners from various fields. It aligns with the ministry's goals to strengthen the third sector's role in social and economic empowerment, positioning it as an attractive work environment capable of attracting national talent. Emiratis employed in public benefit organisations can apply for Nafis programmes and initiatives, provided the organisations are licensed by the MOCD and registered with a recognised pension fund in the UAE. The collaboration between the MOCD, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), and the UAE Human Resources Competitiveness Council exemplifies a holistic government model for supporting the social economy and expanding the beneficiary base of Emiratisation programmes—particularly in the third sector, which is regarded as a cornerstone for achieving national priorities, enhancing social stability, and supporting the UAE's strategic vision of creating an enabling work environment that fosters professional skill development aligned with labour market demands. The ministry's initiatives focus on key objectives, including empowering individuals, activating the third sector, and fostering shared responsibility and community cohesion. Through a comprehensive social empowerment framework, innovative pathways are designed to diversify income sources for individuals, ensuring role integration and inclusive benefits. In July, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced that the number of Emiratis working in the private sector has surpassed 152,000, employed across 29,000 companies as of 30th June 2025 – the deadline set for achieving Emiratisation targets for the first half of the year. In a statement, the Ministry affirmed that the success of Emiratisation efforts in the private sector demonstrates the effectiveness of Emiratisation policies and the Nafis programme, guided by the vision and directives of the UAE's wise leadership. These efforts are delivering a notable positive impact, as evidenced by the rise in the number of Emiratis taking up private-sector jobs. The results also paint private-sector employment in a positive light for Emirati talent, boosting their competitiveness, highlighting the added value they bring, and emphasising their contributions towards the sustainability and growth of their companies.

UAE, Finland sign MoU to enhance weather and polar research
Advancing polar research through the Emirates Polar Programme The agreement establishes a framework for joint scientific projects, focusing especially on polar research in alignment with the UAE's Emirates Polar Programme. This programme aims to establish dedicated research labs in both the Arctic and Antarctica, positioning the UAE as a key contributor to global polar studies. Through this MoU, both nations aim to foster the exchange of expertise and launch collaborative initiatives in areas of mutual scientific interest. Strengthening the UAE's scientific role Dr Al Mandous stated that the MoU strengthens the UAE's research capabilities in meteorology and climate sciences. The agreement also offers expanded opportunities for scientists from both countries to collaborate and conduct joint research. Integrating space weather services and AI capabilities A significant element of the MoU includes the integration of FMI's advanced space weather services into joint research efforts. This is expected to enhance AI-driven data analysis and operational forecasting capabilities, with practical applications across sectors such as agriculture, aviation, maritime navigation, and disaster risk management. Establishing joint infrastructure and research exchange During the visit, the Emirati delegation held a series of technical meetings with Finnish counterparts to explore the development of joint infrastructure and researcher exchange programmes. These discussions also addressed the setup of Emirates Research Labs in polar regions and strategies for conducting long-term field research to assess the impact of climate change on ecosystems and societies. Addressing global meteorological reform and funding In addition, Dr Al Mandous took the opportunity to highlight the importance of reforming operational frameworks within the World Meteorological Organization to better meet global needs. He stressed the urgency of ensuring sustainable funding for UN meteorological initiatives, especially amid current financial challenges that could hinder essential programmes. Finnish perspective on the partnership Professor Taalas welcomed the partnership, praising the UAE's growing leadership in scientific research related to weather and climate. He noted that the agreement provides a strong foundation for joint projects in polar and space weather research, ultimately strengthening global forecasting capabilities and climate resilience. A shared commitment to scientific innovation and sustainability This MoU not only reinforces the long-standing ties between the UAE and Finland but also reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, scientific innovation, and collaborative efforts to address global environmental challenges.
