Huge cache of weapons, ammunition seized in J&K's Shopian; linked to terrorists killed in Operation Keller
Security forces in J&K's Shopian recovered a large cache of weapons after neutralizing three LeT terrorists in Operation Keller. The slain militants, linked to the banned outfit, included two locals whose homes were demolished after the Pahalgam attack.
NEW DELHI: Security forces on Wednesday seized a massive cache of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, bullets and grenades in J&K's Shopian, a day after three
Lashkar-e-Taiba
(LeT) terrorists were gunned down in encounter under
Operation Keller
.
The recovered arms are believed to have belonged to the trio neutralised on Tuesday during a joint operation by the Army and paramilitary forces in the dense forests of Shoekal Keller.
The slain terrorists were linked to Pakistan-backed banned outfit LeT. Two of them — Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar — were locals from Shopian. Their family homes had been demolished after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
The identity of the third terrorist is yet to be confirmed.
While investigators are yet to establish a direct link between the trio and the Pahalgam massacre, police records show Kuttay had been an active terrorist since March 2023 and was involved in multiple attacks, including the April 8 shooting at Danish Resort in Shopian, which left two German tourists and their driver injured.
Dar, who joined LeT in October 2024, killed a migrant labourer in Shopian's Wachi the same day he joined the group, police said.

Posters in Urdu have appeared across Shopian offering a reward of Rs 20 lakh for leads on suspects involved in the Pahalgam killings. One reads: 'Those who killed innocents do not have a place in our country.'
Operation Keller was launched following intelligence inputs from Rashtriya Rifles about the presence of armed terrorists in the area. The encounter marks Kashmir's second major counterterrorism success this year, following the March 16 killing of a Pakistani terrorist in Handwara.
Security forces remain on high alert amid a temporary pause in Indo-Pak hostilities that followed India's May 7 airstrikes on nine terror launchpads in PoK under Operation Sindoor.

'Far left is murderously violent': Is Minnesota shooting suspect Vance Luther Boelter a Democrat?
Vance Luther Boelter worked for Minnesota Dem Governor Tim Walz but his pal says he is a Trump supporter 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter allegedly shot and killed Minnesota politician Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman at their home in Brooklyn Park -- posing as a police officer. A manhunt has been launched while Democrats and Republicans are at odds with the political affiliation of Boelter -- as the killed politicians were Democrats. Roommate says Boelter is a Trump voter According to reports, a roommate of Boelter who knew him from fourth grade claimed that the suspect was a Trump supporter. David Carlson, the friend, claimed to have received the last text message from Boelter which said: "I may be dead shortly. I wish it hasn't gone this way. I don't want to say anything more. You guys don't know anything about this. I love you guys and I am sorry for all the troubles this has caused." The friend, however, said they did not speak about politics lately. — elonmusk (@elonmusk) Elon Musk reacted to the murders and shared an X post writing: 'The far left is murderously violent". The post he had shared reflected on how the left became a "full-blown" domestic terrorist organization. Saudi Arabia executes a journalist after seven years behind bars, activists say it was over his tweets
A prominent Saudi journalist who was arrested in 2018 and convicted on terrorism and treason charges has been executed, the kingdom said. Activist groups maintain that the charges against him were trumped up. Turki Al-Jasser , who was in his late 40s, was put to death on Saturday, according to the official Saudi Press Agency, after the death penalty was upheld by the nation's top court. Authorities had raided Al-Jasser's home in 2018, arresting him and seizing his computer and phones. It was not clear where his trial took place or how long it lasted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Los uruguayos recibirán educación financiera gratuita clasesdeeconomia Undo According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists , Saudi authorities maintained that Al-Jasser was behind a social media account on X, formerly Twitter, that levied corruption allegations against Saudi royals. Al-Jasser was also said to have posted several controversial tweets about militants and militant groups. CPJ's program director Carlos Martinez de la Serna condemned the execution and said the lack of accountability in the wake of the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in 2018 allows for continued persecution of journalists in the kingdom. Live Events "The international community's failure to deliver justice for Jamal Khashoggi did not just betray one journalist," he said, adding it had "emboldened de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to continue his persecution of the press." Al-Jasser's "execution once again demonstrates that in Saudi Arabia , the punishment for criticizing or questioning Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is death," said Jeed Basyouni, head of the Middle East and North Africa section at Reprieve, an international anti-death penalty advocacy group. Basyouni added that Al-Jasser was tried and convicted "in total secrecy for the 'crime' of journalism." A Saudi assassination team killed Khashoggi at the consulate in Istanbul. The U.S. intelligence community concluded that the Saudi crown prince ordered the operation but the kingdom insists the prince was not involved in the killing. Al-Jasser ran a personal blog from 2013 to 2015 and was well-known for his articles on the Arab Spring movements that shook the Middle East in 2011, women's rights and corruption. Saudi Arabia has drawn criticism from human rights groups for its numbers and also methods of capital punishment, including beheadings and mass executions. In 2024, executions in Saudi Arabia rose to 330, according to activists and human rights groups, as the kingdom continues to tightly clamp down on dissent. Last month, a British Bank of America analyst was sentenced to a decade in prison in Saudi Arabia, apparently over a since-deleted social media post, according to his lawyer. And in 2021, a dual Saudi American national, Saad Almadi, was arrested and later sentenced to more than 19 years in prison on terrorism-related charges stemming from tweets he had posted while living in the United States. He was released in 2023 but has been banned from leaving the kingdom.
