Supermarket chain Morrisons has opened its own £129-a-month weight loss jab club.

Loosing weight can be really tough for some people and there has recenlty been a huge interest in the use of of tirzepatide, also known as Mounjaro, orginally an antidiabetic treatment which lowers blood sugar and slows down how quickly food is digested.

GPs in England are being allowed to prescribe Mounjaro to severely obese people for the first time. Patients needed to be on weight loss programmes to get the drug previously. It will initially be offered to people with a body mass index (BMI) score of over 40 in the first year of the roll out.

They will also have conditions such as type 2 diabetes; high blood pressure; heart disease; and obstructive sleep apnoea. Around 1.5m already take weight loss drugs in the UK, often through specialist weight loss services or via private prescription. And now supermarket chain Morrisons is offering the weight-loss jab for £129-a-month.

Morrisons Clinic says: 'At-home, self-injectable pen designed to aid weight loss when injected once-weekly and used consistently. Our approach to weight-loss treatments is based on three core factors, designed with your long-term health as our priority.
'Our expert prescribing pharmacists are specially trained to review, consult and provide medications online. Your healthcare journey is in safe hands. Our services are delivered by a team of dedicated pharmacists, prescribers and clinicians.'
Morrisons Clinic says the sign-up fee will rise to £159-a-month after the offer period. But unimpressed shoppers accused the Bradford-based chain of cashing in after selling fatty and sugary treats, reports The Sun.

Shopper Dave Carter hit out: 'It's genius really. The store sells you unhealthy grub that gets you fat, then wants vast sums of money to get you thin." Another added on social media: 'I didn't have @Morrison offering weight loss drugs (tirzepatide) on my 2025 bingo card.."
Another added on social media: 'Is this a parody? One of the culprits, pushing highly-processed food, is offering a fat clinic?!
Morrisons Clinic also offers other services like; treatment for premature ejaculation, treatments for acne at £36.99, acid reflux at £17.99, erectile dysfunction at £13 and migraine at £15.99. Morrisons, which has more than 100 pharmacies across the UK, said its weight management medications were 'prescribed and dispensed responsibly'.

Morrisons launched the 'Morrisons Clinic,' an online private prescription service back in January. Launched in partnership with Phlo, the service enables customers to access private medication quickly, discretely, and safely and have it delivered straight to their door without a GP's appointment.
Speaking about the online clinic Morrisons offers John Parry, Head of Services at Morrisons, said: 'We know how frustrating it can be waiting to see your GP for an appointment, so we're delighted to be launching the Morrisons Clinic. Our customers will now be able to order medication for a number of different health and lifestyle conditions quickly and conveniently, all at competitive prices.'
Adam Hunter, Chief Commercial Officer at Phlo, said: 'At Phlo, we are proud to partner with Morrisons to launch Morrisons Clinic, a service designed to increase access to healthcare for patients across the UK. This partnership reflects the strength of our shared commitment to providing innovative, patient-centric solutions that make it easier for people to manage their health.'

What to do if you lose too much weight too quickly whilst on Mounjaro IF you're losing too much weight too quickly while on Mounjaro, it's important to take action to avoid potential health risks like muscle loss, malnutrition, dehydration, and fatigue. Here's what you can do: Evaluate Your Caloric Intake Mounjaro reduces appetite, which can make it easy to eat too little. If you're losing weight too fast (more than two to three lbs per week after the initial adjustment period), try: Tracking your food intake to ensure you're eating enough calories (apps like MyFitnessPal can help). Increasing protein intake to preserve muscle mass (aim for 0.6–1g per pound of body weight). Adding healthy fats and complex carbs (e.g., avocados, nuts, whole grains) for balanced energy. Adjust Your Dosage (With Doctor's Approval) If your weight loss is too rapid or causing side effects, your doctor may: Pause dose increases or lower your dosage. Adjust your treatment plan to stabilise your weight loss. Strength Training & Exercise To prevent muscle loss: Incorporate resistance training at least two to three times per week. Stay active with low-impact exercises like walking or yoga. Hydrate & Manage Electrolytes Drink enough water (Mounjaro can reduce thirst). Electrolytes matter - Consider adding magnesium, sodium, and potassium if you feel weak or fatigued. Monitor for Malnutrition & Deficiencies Rapid weight loss can cause vitamin/mineral deficiencies (especially B12, iron, and electrolytes). If you experience: Fatigue, hair loss, or dizziness, ask your doctor about supplements. Consider Further Medical Guidance If your weight loss is excessive or causing health concerns, speak with your healthcare provider. They might adjust your dosage, diet, or exercise plan to help stabilise your weight loss.
