China calls for enhancing exchanges, security with Pakistan, Afghanistan
Wang, who attended a three-way meeting with his counterparts in Kabul on Wednesday, said the countries should continue to build strategic mutual trust and deepen security cooperation.
China is ready to understand and support issues involving each country's core interests and firmly oppose external interference in the region as well as any organisation or individual undermining each other's national sovereignty, the minister said, according to a readout on Thursday.
'It is necessary to improve the security dialogue mechanism, deepen law enforcement and security cooperation, strengthen the fight against transnational terrorist activities, and eradicate the breeding ground for terrorism,' Wang said.
The readout did not mention any terrorist groups, but a report by Chinese state media Xinhua on Wang's meeting with Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi mentioned the East Turkestan Islamic Movement.
The report cited Wang as saying China hopes Afghanistan will intensify efforts to combat such terrorist forces.
China shares a 596 km (370 miles) border with Pakistan that runs through the Karakoram Mountains, extending from the tripoint with Afghanistan to the disputed area with India near the Siachen Glacier. With Afghanistan, China shares a 92 km (57 miles) border that meets Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan territory.

Wang also told his counterparts that the three countries should expand development cooperation, trade and investment exchanges, and network connectivity.

Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek released on Thursday an upgrade to its flagship V3 model that the company says has a feature that can optimize it for Chinese-made chips, along with faster processing speeds. The focus on domestic chip compatibility may signal that DeepSeek's AI models are being positioned to work with China's emerging semiconductor ecosystem as Beijing pushes to replace US technology in the face of Washington's export restrictions. DeepSeek shook the technology world this year when it released AI models that compete with Western ones like OpenAI's ChatGPT while offering lower operational costs. For domestic chip support, DeepSeek said in a WeChat post its DeepSeek-V3.1 model's UE8M0 FP8 precision format is optimised for "soon-to-be-released next-generation domestic chips". The company did not identify which specific chip models or manufacturers would be supported. FP8, or 8-bit floating point, is a data processing format that allows AI models to operate more efficiently, using less memory while running faster than traditional methods. NEW YORK: US aviation giant Boeing is in talks to sell up to 500 aircraft to Chinese companies, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter. The deal would be a major win for the struggling US manufacturer, with company shares rising as high as 3.7 percent in pre-market trades, but up less than one percent about 15 minutes into Tuesday's session. Bloomberg's sources said the deal would be contingent on Washington and Beijing coming to a longer-term agreement in their simmering trade war. The Boeing deal would likely be a key facet of a US-China trade deal, according to Bloomberg, whose sources said Chinese officials had begun surveying domestic airlines for how many planes they would need.
