However, with long-distance bus services shifting from Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT) to Kilambakkam, ridership projections for this section dropped. As a result, CMRL opted for a more direct alignment between Kendriya Vidyalaya and Koyambedu, eliminating the curve and dropping the proposed Kaliamman Koil Street station from the plan.
To streamline operations and reduce land acquisition, the alignment now bypasses 100 Feet Road, and the new station has been shifted to a location directly above the existing Koyambedu station, consolidating both corridors under a single hub.
This realignment brings the new viaduct closer to Corridor 2, prompting substation modifications. The double-decker viaduct design for the Koyambedu segment remains intact, with completion aimed for June 2026.

Residents in the area have largely welcomed the change. "This stretch is already congested, and adding another station between Kendriya Vidyalaya and Koyambedu would have worsened traffic and pedestrian movement," said R Kumaran, a resident of Natesan Nagar.

The change has also paved the way for the state highways department to fast-track construction of a long-pending 18 crore pedestrian skywalk. Planned at the intersection of Jawaharlal Nehru Road and Poonamallee High Road, the skywalk will connect the DMDK office area — where the dropped station was planned — with MTC bus stop across the road. Further north, progress on the same corridor is affected by delays in the underground stretch between Nadamuni and Madhavaram, which crosses under the Coovum River.
This was among six cancelled JICA-funded tenders. Although fresh bids were awarded last year, permission for riverbed works was granted only last month by the Water Resources Department.
Meanwhile, at Thirumangalam, the metro station originally planned over a bridge has been shifted to the side, requiring the acquisition of four residential apartments. Trains will now pass directly through these buildings.

As part of this initiative, an overhead tank is planned inside the park in Kidwai Nagar. According to residents, the MC had initially selected a barren patch of land within the same park for the tank, which would have involved removing only two or three trees. However, they allege that the authorities quietly changed the construction site to a densely green area without informing the public, putting several 50-year-old silver oak trees at risk of cutting. 'This park has been part of our lives for decades. We planted these trees ourselves. We are not against development, but it should not come at the cost of nature,' said Dr Vinod Kapoor, a senior resident in the area. Additionally, locals also alleged that a swing meant for differently-abled children has already been uprooted for the project. Sandeep Dhingra, president of the Park Management Committee, said the park is one of the few green spaces left in the colony. 'Many people come here for walks and leisure. If trees are cut, pollution will only get worse. If our concerns are ignored, we may have to take legal action,' he said. The citywide project includes the construction of a 580 MLD water treatment plant in Bilga village near Sahnewal to improve the groundwater level by laying and ensure efficient operation of existing tubewell by laying of 165 km of water pipelines, and building of 70 new overhead tanks along with the repair of 66 existing ones. Despite repeated attempts, no MC official was available for comments.

Mandya district panchayat reduces new borewell drilling, improves water management
Mandya: In a significant shift towards sustainable water management, the Mandya district panchayat has considerably reduced the drilling of new borewells for drinking water in rural areas, said district panchayat CEO KR Nandini. Presiding over a water and sanitation committee meeting held at the district panchayat auditorium, she stated that a comprehensive list of all govt and private borewells, along with their water yield data, was compiled for each village. In the event of a water shortage, private borewells will be hired instead of immediately resorting to new drilling. Any proposal for new borewells will now be approved only after a detailed yield verification and site inspection. Nandini highlighted that with surveys already conducted to assess existing borewells and their capacity, the necessity for additional drilling has substantially declined. To ensure this, taluk-level awareness programmes will be organised for water supply staff/watermen. Addressing water pollution concerns, Nandini directed that grey water, sewage, and other waste should not be allowed to flow into lakes or ponds. Officials were instructed to survey and identify such issues and take remedial measures to prevent contamination of water bodies. Regarding purified drinking water units, she noted that many were previously maintained by private contractors. With some maintenance contracts having expired, the panchayat now plans to repair and transfer the units to local gram panchayats for upkeep. Out of 680 such units in the district, 290 were already handed over.
