The NHL's regular season may be over, but the debate over who truly stood out as the league's top performer is just heating up. With the finalists named for the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award, fans and experts alike are weighing stats, leadership, and game-breaking moments. Only one player — Tampa Bay Lightning's
Nikita Kucherov
— finds himself in the running for both awards, while a goaltending giant, a dominant defenseman, and two offensive juggernauts round out the field.

Who will win the 2025 NHL Hart Trophy? Top MVP candidates analyzed
Let's start in the blue paint. Winnipeg Jets goalie
Connor Hellebuyck
was a brick wall in net, backstopping his team to a league-best 56 wins — 47 of which were his. Not only did he top the NHL in wins, goals-against average, and shutouts, but he also finished second in save percentage and time on ice, playing every minute of his 62 starts. A performance like that is hard to ignore, and it's why he's getting rare Hart Trophy buzz for a goaltender.
Meanwhile, Edmonton's
Leon Draisaitl
led the league in goals with 52 and was tied for third in total points (106). His sharpshooting was lethal, with a 21.7% shooting percentage — the best among top scorers. He also tallied 11 game-winning goals, tied for the league lead, and finished +32 in plus/minus.
Then there's Kucherov, who lit up the league with a whopping 121 points and 84 assists. His 2.90 points per 60 minutes ranked third in the NHL, and his impact on Tampa Bay's offense helped them lock up second in the Atlantic Division. Kucherov's blend of playmaking and production earned him recognition from both the writers and his fellow players.
On the Ted Lindsay side,
Nathan MacKinnon
's 116-point campaign and joint league lead in assists earned him the nod from his peers — even if writers left him out of the Hart top three. His teammate,
Cale Makar
, may have stolen some of that spotlight. The elite defenceman had a stellar season, posting 1.73 points per 60 (tops among blueliners) and a +28 rating, converting over 12% of his shots — an astonishing clip from the back end.
MVP stakes are higher than ever — And history could be made
With voting done before the playoffs, it's all about regular-season impact. Kucherov's offensive dominance makes him the front-runner for the Lindsay, while Hellebuyck's goaltending masterclass could tip the Hart in his favor — especially if voters value value over flash. Still, don't count out Draisaitl's goal-scoring heroics or the all-around brilliance of Makar and MacKinnon.
Who will emerge victorious? We'll find out after the Stanley Cup is lifted. But one thing is certain: each finalist gave us a season to remember.

Virat Kohli after winning IPL 2025: I have given RCB my youth, prime and experience

Virat Kohli admitted that the Indian Premier League 2025 title win with Royal Challengers Bengaluru will go down as a highlight of his illustrious career. 'This win is right up there, I've stayed loyal to this team. I had moments otherwise, but I stayed with them and them with me. My heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore,' said Kohli. Tried to win it every season, gave it everything I can. Never thought this day would come, was overcome with emotion after we won. This is a high-intensity tournament, I want to win the big tournaments and moments. Tonight, I'll sleep like a baby,' added Kohli. In Ahmedabad, as RCB lifted its first IPL title, team legend AB de Villiers was seen hugging Kohli after the win was sealed. 'What ABD has done for the franchise is tremendous, told him 'this is as much yours as it is ours'. He's been the POTM most times in the franchise despite being retired for four years. He deserves to be on the podium, lifting the cup,' said Kohli. The Indian batter applauded the RCB team and management for ending the team's 18-year-old wait for an IPL title. 'This management, this group of players has been outstanding. They've gotten the right kind of players, match winners, people who take the game on. In the auction, a lot of people questioned our tactics. But by day two, we were very happy with what we had. And we had a lot of confidence in the strength of this group. I want to give a big shout out to this team. It would not have been possible without each and every one in the squad, in the playing XI, the management backing the players, keeping us positive throughout when the going got tough,' said Kohli.

'I just played, that was my training': LeBron James reveals shocking truth about his early basketball days and how streetball forged his NBA legacy

Image via Getty Images You don't need to follow basketball to know the name LeBron James . He's more than just a four-time champion or an MVP. He's a symbol of longevity, excellence, and defying limits. As he gears up for his 23rd NBA season, a record no player has ever touched, James recently pulled back the curtain on how it all began. And surprisingly, it didn't involve elite training programs or high-priced coaches. His path started with something much simpler: the court, his friends, and the drive to play. LeBron James built his game with no trainer and pure hustle on his rise to NBA greatness Appearing on the 'Mind the Game' podcast, LeBron James gave fans a glimpse into his unfiltered journey to basketball greatness. What he shared went against nearly every blueprint you hear about future NBA stars. 'I didn't have a basketball trainer until maybe my second, third, or even my fourth year in the league,' he revealed. The Luka Dončić Interview (Part 1) | LeBron James & Steve Nash | MIND THE GAME Instead of structured practices or professional coaching, James sharpened his skills the old-fashioned way by being on the court constantly. 'I just played. That was my training,' he explained. Those countless hours of pickup ball in Akron, Ohio, helped him build not only his feel for the game but the creativity and instinct that would later become his signature style. That's how I learned to create shots,' he said, reflecting on how unstructured play shaped his development far more than drills or direction ever could. 'No one ever told me how to play,' he added, a line that perfectly sums up his self-made style. Also Read: LeBron James is not a fan of Bronny and Bryce James' basketball upbringing as he recalled his own journey to become an NBA legend Now standing on the brink of his 23rd NBA season, James has logged an astounding 59,041 minutes on the hardwood while maintaining career averages of 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.6 assists. Of course, he's had help in recent years to keep his body sharp and his mind focused, surrounding himself with the right experts. But the game itself was his to figure out. LeBron James didn't follow a blueprint to become the best. He made his own. Long before the NBA, there was just a kid, a ball, and a dream. And sometimes, that's all it takes.
