Govt to support treatment of critically ill poor patients: UP CM
Yogi gave the assurance to the people during the Janata Darshan event at Gorakhnath temple where he interacted with over 200 visitors in the auditorium of Smriti Bhawan. Responding to concerns over the high cost of treatment for critical illnesses, he instructed officials to ensure that such patients receive the best treatment at top hospitals without worrying about expenses.
The CM directed the preparation of treatment cost estimates on a priority and their immediate submission to the state government so that timely financial assistance could be provided. He also instructed officials to handle public grievances with seriousness, sensitivity, and urgency, ensuring quick, high-quality, and satisfactory resolutions.
Yogi stressed that no citizen should face harassment and warned of strict legal action against land grabbers. In one case, he directed officials to allot land on lease to a woman who had approached him with a request.
The CM reached Gorakhpur on Saturday evening. On Sunday, he reviewed the preparedness of the irrigation department, PWD, and the municipal corporation to handle possible flood situations.
Yogi directed continuous monitoring of embankments and river water levels in flood-prone areas, activation of flood posts, and arrangements to relocate affected villagers if required. The CM emphasised that the relief and rescue system must be in perfect order, leaving no room for complaints.
He instructed the PWD officials to repair roads damaged by recent rain and asked the power corporation to address all electricity complaints promptly. He also ordered the deployment of additional pumping sets to drain stagnant water in low-lying areas.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday expressed concern over the mindset of some people and urged an elderly man not to talk of 'suicide,' assuring him to remain patient until his grievances were addressed. Majhi made the remarks while presiding over the 14th session of the Chief Minister's public grievance hearings, attended by several ministers and senior officials. The Chief Minister became visibly upset when an elderly man, identified as Jagabandhu Panda, told him that he would 'prefer to die by suicide' as his grievances had remained unheard for a long time. Annoyed at Panda's words, Majhi said, 'If your grievances are genuine, they will certainly be addressed. I am there for you people. Please do not talk of 'suicide'. It is not a good word.' 'My wife is a paralysis patient and my son is physically challenged. Life has become difficult for me. Therefore, I suddenly used the word suicide. I shouldn't have spoken like this. However, the Chief Minister listened to my grievances and assured me that the issue would be resolved,' he added. Meanwhile, reacting to the alleged self-immolation death of a schoolgirl at Gaisilet in Bargarh district, State Law Minister Pritihiviraj Harichandan said, 'The government has taken the incident seriously and steps are being taken. Such incidents have been happening for some time. Suicide is not a solution to any problem.' The Law Minister appealed to distressed people to seek legal help instead of ending their lives. 'People are free to vent their grievances. The Chief Minister's doors are open to all. The government is taking steps to prevent such incidents,' he said. On Opposition parties, the Law Minister said, 'Their job is to target the government by telling lies. We are not worried about it. We are worried about the loss of lives.' Meanwhile, hours after taking charge as the chairperson of the State Commission for Women, Shovana Mohanty said people should be strong and should refrain from taking their lives. 'I assure all the women of the State that we will take necessary steps to address all issues affecting them,' she said.

1 2 Lucknow: Amid the ongoing row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, the UP BJP plans to coordinate closely with the Election Commission of India to weed out 'illegal' immigrants, if any, from the voter list in the run-up to the 2027 assembly elections. BJP sources said that party functionaries have been asked to identify 'illegal' immigrants—primarily Rohingyas and Bangladeshis—residing in the state and to inform the poll panel immediately about it. While there is no specific data readily available on the presence of Rohingya and Bangladeshi population in Uttar Pradesh, it is known that some Rohingya refugees have settled in parts of India. The situation in Uttar Pradesh is said to mirror the broader trends of Rohingya presence in India, which includes undocumented individuals living in slums and engaged in menial and odd jobs, especially in a host of prominent municipal towns of the state. Sources said that a blueprint of the scheduled exercise was laid down during a recent organisational meeting of the BJP in Lucknow. He accused the SP of hiding behind the 'facade' of democracy while subjecting traders to atrocities and a 'goonda tax' during its rule. Asserting that no development took place during the Samajwadi Party rule, he said, 'During the SP regime, encephalitis claimed the lives of 700-1500 children every year, including hundreds in Mata Prasad Pandey's constituency in Siddharthnagar, yet no action was taken. Health, education, and development have never been your priorities.' Recalling the Sambhal incident, the chief minister said his government is carrying out a purification drive in the area to undo the negativity spread by the party. 'The SP is still clinging to its old habits, opposing development at every step,' he remarked. Accusing SP of being anti-growth, he said the party's politics in Sambhal, Bahraich, and Gorakhpur was rooted in obstruction, not progress. You went there uninvited, trying to obstruct development, and they respectfully opposed you,' he said, stressing that people cannot expect either security or development from the SP. 'The corridor will link iconic landmarks, including Ghantaghar, the city's oldest market, and the Gita Press. I inspected the site three days before the Leader of Opposition's visit, personally meeting every trader. Long plagued by congestion and illegal encroachments, the market is now seeing road expansion and decongestion works,' he said. The CM assured that all affected traders will receive fair compensation, with no one left to bear losses in the name of development.
