Angry at Rahul, Modi blocking BC quota bills: CM

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was blocking approval of the two BC reservation bills and an ordinance to remove the 50% cap on reservations because of his anger at Rahul Gandhi 's fight for education, employment, and political empowerment of Backward Classes. "If PM Modi and Union minister G Kishan Reddy have anything against Rahul Gandhi's stand for justice to the BCs, let them book more cases against him individually. Already, there are several cases pending. But they should stop blocking the BC quota bills. Modi and Kishan Reddy should take up the issue with the President and ensure assent for the two bills passed by the Telangana assembly and the ordinance. The BJP has the power to do it," Revanth said. He was speaking at the 375th birth anniversary celebrations of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud Maharaj at Ravindra Bharati here. Revanth hit out at both the BJP and BRS for 'undermining' BC rights. While the BJP, he said, was using Muslim reservations as a pretext to block higher BC quota, the previous BRS govt led by K Chandrasekhar Rao restricted reservations to 50% in the Panchayat Raj Act of 2018. These were forwarded by the governor to the President. "When we realised assent was being delayed, we held a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar. Leaders and MPs from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and other states joined us. But neither BJP nor BRS leaders participated. That dharna was not for Congress' political gain but for the empowerment of bahujans. Their absence exposed both parties as 'anti-BC'," he said. Rejecting BJP's argument on Muslim quota, Revanth said: "The Constitution does not allow religion-based reservations. If there were any, the Supreme Court would strike them down within minutes. Show us where religion-based reservations exist in our 42% BC quota bills. This is a BJP conspiracy to deny BCs their rights under the guise of opposing Muslim quota." He pointed out that Muslim reservations under the BC category have existed for over 56 years. "If the BJP really opposes them, let them remove them in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh first," he said, urging BC communities to see through "these conspiracies." He said BC empowerment can happen only through education, employment, and political representation and guaranteed reservations. The CM laid the foundation for the installation of a statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna near the secretariat. Box CM Revanth Reddy and deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka will join Rahul Gandhi's Bihar padayatra. The CM alleged that BJP was deleting names of lakhs of voters across states. "Vote chori is being done to win elections. In Bihar, 65 lakh names were deleted. It happened in Maharashtra, and it will happen in Telangana. People who are alive are shown as dead, while outsiders are enrolled as voters. Rahul Gandhi exposed this conspiracy, but instead of answers, the ECI asked him for affidavits. Is this justice?" he asked. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Cong takes out march against ‘poll fraud'

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee Monday took out a candlelight march from Bhopal Singh Stadium in Sector 45 here, as part of the party's nationwide movement to expose alleged electoral fraud and "vote chori" reportedly being orchestrated by the BJP in collusion with the Election Commission of India (ECI). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Hundreds of Congress workers carrying party flags, candles, and placards marched through the streets, raising slogans of "Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod!" This sent out a loud and clear message that the people of India will not tolerate the murder of democracy. The march was led by HS Lucky, president of the party's UT unit. Launching a scathing attack on the BJP and the ECI, Lucky said, "Rahul Gandhi's revelations ripped apart the mask of Modi's so-called democracy. The voter list manipulation, deletion of lakhs of names, and fraudulent additions expose the BJP-ECI nexus. Yesterday's press conference by the chief election commissioner showed the naked bias of the commission — the language of a BJP agent, not a constitutional authority. This is nothing short of treason against democracy. If the Election Commission chooses to act as BJP's puppet, then it loses its moral right to exist." He added, "The Election Commission is the guardian of Indian democracy. If it becomes complicit in fraud, then democracy itself collapses. Chandigarh Congress demands full accountability, complete transparency, and the immediate resignation of the Modi govt along with BJP govts in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra that stand tainted by these shocking revelations of vote theft. The Congress party will not rest until every truth is unearthed and those guilty are punished. The court ordered the publication of provisional draft rolls, restoration of the names of 65 lakh deleted voters, and directed the EC to provide reasons for deletion. It also ruled that Aadhaar cards must be accepted for voter inclusion — a decision hailed by Sandeep Gujjar as "a victory of the people over a compromised Commission. " The Chandigarh Congress asserted that this march is only the beginning of a larger battle to save the Constitution and the soul of Indian democracy. The party vowed to intensify its fight across the country until the electoral system is purged of corruption and restored to its rightful credibility.

Mamata may skip event where Modi will unveil new Metro routes

Kolkata: Chief minister is unlikely to attend the inauguration ceremony of the three Metro routes in Dum Dum on Aug 22, where Prime Minister is expected to cut the ribbon. Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier invited Banerjee to the occasion. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to reporters, spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "From what we understand, the chief minister will not attend the programme. The first reason is CM Banerjee, during her tenure as the Union railway minister, not only finalised these projects but also allocated funds for them. However, these were delayed. Now, with elections close, they want to use their nameplates for political reasons. These delays should not have happened in the first place. " "The other reason is that such events always turn political. BJP has no control over its workers who attend these programmes. They lose context and do everything that should not be done or said. In the past, even a programme on Netaji was used by BJP workers to do politics in the presence of their leaders," Ghosh added. "The third reason is that CM Banerjee is leading the fight against the illegal acts by the Centre and the states governed by BJP in harassing Bengali-speaking migrants and attacking the Bengali language. People are being jailed randomly, and worse, being sent to Bangladesh only for speaking Bengali. The CM is unlikely to share the stage with them."
