Yahoo18 hours ago
Will Smith, the Emmy-winning creator of 'Slow Horses,' is exiting the Apple TV+ spy thriller after Season 5, Variety has confirmed.
Smith served as writer and executive producer on the Gary Oldman series and was the showrunner in everything but name. He led the production since Season 1 in 2022, writing scripts adapted from Mick Herron's 'Slough House' novel series. Smith won the Emmy for writing for a drama series in 2024; he's nominated for writing and for drama series this year.

'Slow Horses' has already been renewed through Season 7 at Apple TV+. For Season 6, Smith is handing over the reins to Gaby Chiappe (of the British crime drama 'The Level'), and for Season 7, 'All Creatures Great and Small' creator Ben Vanstone is taking over. Smith will not be involved with the series after Season 5.

Led by Oldman, who plays the sour and sardonic Jackson Lamb, the ensemble includes Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, Sophie Okonedo as Ingrid Tearney, Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright and Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness.
Season 5 of 'Slow Horses' is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Sept. 24. It will follow Herron's book 'London Rules.'

Zoë Kravitz offered Taylor Swift's Beverly Hills mansion during California's wildfires crisis

Zoë Kravitz has revealed Taylor Swift generously offered her her Beverly Hills mansion as a safe haven during California's recent wildfires. The actress, 36, spoke about the incident during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, describing how Taylor, 35, opened her $25 million 1930s mansion to her and her mother Lisa Bonet, 55, amid the wildfire crisis — only for the pair to leave part of the singer's home 'completely destroyed.' Zoë said: 'We ended up having to stay there for about two weeks. 'And Taylor has this beautiful house. It's from the '30s, something you want to preserve and take care of.' Despite her usual care as a houseguest, Zoë admitted a mishap occurred in Taylor's bathroom. She said: 'I try to be a good houseguest, I try to leave places better than I found them.' But as she and her mum were tidying up at the end of their stay, Zoë received a call from Lisa. She found her mother 'crouched in the corner in this weird way' in the upstairs bathroom. Zoë added: 'And I'm like, 'What's going on, dude?' And she's like, 'So I was washing my face and I had Orpheus and I just put her down for a second. Closed the door and she found this little hole in the corner'.' The hole trapped Lisa's pet snake Orpheus in the wall behind a built-in banquette. Their attempts to retrieve the serpent caused a frantic scramble that sent it further into the structure. Eventually, Taylor's house manager arrived with a crowbar to dismantle the banquette. Zoë added: 'We're ripping up the tile. We're scratching the walls. Completely destroyed Taylor's bathroom and there was just this moment where I was like, 'Either we destroy her bathroom or I have to tell her that there's a snake somewhere in her house.' She said she assured Taylor's manager: 'Obviously, I'm gonna pay for everything to be fixed. Please just don't say anything until it's fixed.' When Zoë later called Swift, the singer was already aware. She said: 'I remember calling her saying, 'Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something.' And she was like, 'Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?'' Zoë has been friends with Swift for over a decade and has collaborated on her music, co-writing the 2022 songs Karma and Lavender Haze and providing backing vocals on Midnights. She also described attending Taylor's sold-out Eras tour in London and spending relaxed evenings with the singer afterwards. Zoë added: 'But what is weirder actually to me is that after she performs for however many thousands of people… she just comes over after, and like, we drink some wine, and like, eat a burger, and like, hang out.'

47 Thoughts I Had While Watching Season 3, Episode 6 of The Summer I Turned Pretty

Oh, The Summer I Turned Pretty, how you tantalize me—and also piss me off. I am pretty much 100% aligned with Belly's mom, Laurel, in not thinking this deeply world-innocent college junior should marry some blond, perpetually sunburned bro just to prove she's over his significantly hotter brother. And yet, I'm kind of having fun with this JV-league wedding plotline? Below, find absolutely every single thought I had about The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 6: Am I the only one who sings the title of this show to the tune of Loudon Wainwright III's 'The Swimming Song'? Oh, Belly. Why in the Lane Kim hell are the writers of this show making you get married in college? Where is this girl getting rent money for an apartment for her and her soon-to-be 'husband'? When I was her age, I lived off babysitting earnings and the funds my parents generously put on the stupid little ID card you could use to buy ice cream and tampons at the college bookstore. And I was (correctly) not engaged! I'm not saying nobody should get engaged in college, but Belly definitely should not. Okay, Jeremiah serving 'cute futch lesbian' with his messy hair and glasses. And yes, that is the first and last time I will use the words 'Jeremiah' and 'cute' in the same sentence. Oh, okay, here's where the apartment money is allegedly coming from (Jeremiah's dad). Why are we referring to 'Jere' in the third person? Was that an Idaho student murders reference? I know I'm being negative about this relationship, but…God save me from Jeremiah cooking 'Sunday dinner every week.' What do just-out-of-college boys cook for dinner, anyway? Freezer broccoli and PBR? Good luck finding an apartment to rent (even a terrible one) that doesn't require a credit check, you sweet summer children. Is my TV shitty, or is the lighting on this show so dark? I'm trying to imagine how I would have 'helped' if one of my besties were getting married in college, and I'm just coming up with myself, hungover, getting Doc Martens grime all over the venue carpets. Like, I'm 32 years old, and I'm still not ready. But I guess this show isn't about me! Okay, mean wedding-planner lady, a lobster roll is not a mere sandwich. 'Yacht formal'? Oh my God, indeed. Belly, go with the brother who can cook (or at least put food in the fridge for you). I agree with Taylor's mom: TGI Friday's Mudslides shouldn't count as alcohol, legally speaking. Oop, is Jeremiah and Conrad's dad re-upping his affair? Well, I guess his wife is deceased, so it's not really an affair anymore, but still…should he be sleeping with someone from the office whom he already cheated on his late wife with, and whom he's pulled into planning his son's wedding? Aw, I love Conrad for trying to convince Laurel to come to this nonsense wedding. Why is Laurel charmed by him ordering for her, though? I know it's supposed to be cute, but never let a man order for you. I do think Conrad's right that Laurel will regret not being there for Belly during all this wedding stuff, TBH. Should Conrad and Laurel hook up? Okay, sorry, I know this isn't The O.C. But, damn, remember when Luke and Julie Cooper got it on? We used to be a proper country. I fear I don't really care about this Steven/tech/potential brewing-romance plotline. I need him back with Taylor, stat! This balloon display… I mean, I'm not really one for bridal showers in the first place, so why am I commenting? Hey, it's Laurel!!! Time for an emotionally charged fellas' suit-fitting. God, that scrapbook is going to be an amazing thing to weep over when Belly and Jeremiah inevitably break up. I am on the record about finding Conrad hot, but I do really want him to wash his hair and fix his depression bangs. Not the Alvvays needle drop! God, the boys' dad is such a dick. Get his ass, Conrad. Aw, Laurel telling Belly 'There's a lot of world to see' and giving her tickets to Paris for her honeymoon is above and beyond the call of mom duty. Aw, I want to recreate this watching-old-musicals-on-Wednesday-nights ritual when I have a kid. Aw, I love Belly belting Bye Bye Birdie. Almost as much as I love Belly healing Conrad's wounds! Literally and figuratively, wink-wink.

Harvey Weinstein could be sentenced next month, but only if there's no retrial on an unresolved rape charge

Harvey Weinstein faces sentencing and a possible retrial in his New York City sex crimes case, but when they'll happen – and whether he'll be back in front of another jury – is still up in the air. Manhattan Judge Curtis Farber said Wednesday he could sentence Weinstein on Sept. 30 – but only if there's no retrial on a rape charge that the last jury failed to reach a verdict on. Weinstein, 73, was convicted in June of forcing oral sex on TV and movie production assistant and producer Miriam Haley in 2006. The charge carries a possible sentence of up to 25 years in prison. At the same time, the jury acquitted him of forcing oral sex on another woman, one-time model Kaja Sokola, but couldn't decide a charge that he raped hairstylist and actor Jessica Mann in 2013. Manhattan prosecutors told Farber that they're ready to take Weinstein to trial for a third time on the rape charge, which is punishable by up to four years in prison. That's less time than Weinstein has already served. Mann is on board to testify again, they said. Prosecutors requested a January trial date, citing witness availability and their own caseload. Farber balked at that, saying a January date is too far away and conflicts with another, unrelated trial he's already scheduled. He proposed having the trial in the fall. 'The case needs to be tried this year,' Farber said. Weinstein lawyer Arthur Aidala agreed, telling Farber he'd prefer a trial at 'the earliest the court can accommodate us.' Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg said she would ask Mann and other witnesses about their availability for a trial in the fall. If a fall trial happens, it would likely put Weinstein's high-profile #MeToo case back in court as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is in the final throes of his reelection bid. Bragg, a first-term Democrat who made prosecuting sex crimes cases a priority, has expressed satisfaction with Weinstein's conviction on a criminal sex act charge in the Haley assault and has been resolute in wanting the Oscar-winning studio boss retried on the Mann rape charge. 'The jury was not able to reach a conclusion as to Ms. Mann, and she deserves that,' Bragg said in June. 'This work, first and foremost, is about the survivors and that's why we're prepared to go forward.' Aidala told reporters outside court that, in his view, it's on prosecutors to resolve the rape charge – either by dropping it and clearing the way for sentencing, or promptly taking it to trial again. Weinstein sat in court in a wheelchair while wearing a blue suit and black-rimmed glasses. The 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Shakespeare in Love' producer is committed to fighting the rape charge at another trial, Aidala said, though the lawyer didn't rule out the possibility of reaching a deal with prosecutors to end the case. For now, the trial date remains unresolved, leaving Weinstein's possible Sept. 30 sentencing in limbo. At Weinstein's first trial in 2020, jurors convicted him of raping Mann and forcing oral sex on production assistant and producer Haley. Then an appeals court overturned those convictions and sent the case back for retrial because of legal issues involving other women's testimony. This spring, a new jury convicted him again of sexually assaulting Haley and acquitted him of doing the same to another woman who wasn't part of the first trial. But amid fractious deliberations, the majority-female jury got stuck on the charge related to Mann. Mann has testified that she also had a consensual, on-and-off relationship with the then-married Weinstein, but that she told him 'I don't want to do this' as he cornered her in the hotel room. She said he persevered with advances and demands until she 'just gave up.' Weinstein already stands convicted of sex crimes in California. He denies all of the allegations against him.
