After Rahul, Priyanka Don T-Shirts With Her Face, 'Minta Devi' Asks 'Who Gave Them The Right'
Minta Devi from Bihar's Siwan had a strong response to a demonstration by opposition MPs led by Congress leader Priyanka, where they wore shirts with her name and photo
Her name has been trending on social media the whole day, but 'Minta Devi" from Bihar's Siwan has one specific question and a laugh to spare.
The question: who gave opposition MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi the right to put her face on a t-shirt? And, what is she laughing about? The fact that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has her listed as a '124-year-old grandma".
The 35-year-old Minta Devi, however, had a strong response to opposition MPs led by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staging a demonstration in New Delhi with her name and photo printed on their shirts.
Minta is allegedly listed as a 124-year-old voter. '…I came to know about this a few days ago…who are they (opposition MPs) to me? Who is Priyanka Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi to me? Who gave them the right to wear t-shirts featuring me? Why are they becoming my well-wisher over my age? This should not be done, I do not want this…" she told news agency ANI.
Watch the video here:
Minta said there are discrepancies in the list but she cannot be blamed for it but she also wants her details to be corrected. And in a lighter vein, she even suggested that if the government thinks she is 124 years old, then she should receive an old-age pension. She, however, clarified that her Aadhaar card holds the correct details of her birth on July 15, 1990.
'I think there are discrepancies (in list)…I did not get anyone's (from administration) phone call…I want my details to be corrected…Whoever entered the details, did they do so with their eyes closed? If I am 124 years old in the eyes of the government, why are they not giving me an old-age pension? My Aadhaar card mentions 15-07-1990 as my date of birth…"
'EC HAS MADE ME A GRANDMA'
Minta said the Election Commission (EC) has made her a grandma. If the draft electoral rolls in Bihar were to be believed, the 'first-time" voter, at '124 years", could well be the oldest in the state, where more than 7 crore electors will be exercising their franchise in a couple of months.
'How can I be blamed for the goof-up? I had filled up my enumeration form online, after having waited in vain for a visit by the booth-level officer," she said.
According to a PTI report, the Siwan district administration has issued a statement claiming that Minta, who is a would-be voter of the Daraunda assembly segment, has been contacted and remedial steps were taken well before the anomaly made headlines.
'An application was obtained from Minta Devi on August 10 for rectifying the error, to which her attention was drawn by the BLO. It will be dealt with during the claims and objections phase (of special intensive revision of electoral rolls)," read a statement issued by the collectorate of Siwan.
'I am thrilled that, finally, at the age of 35, I may get a chance to cast my vote. Many polls have passed since I became eligible but somehow my name never made it to the voter list. If the EC has made me a grandma (daadi bana diya) in the process, it is fine with me. I have nothing to fear. I had stated my year of birth as 1990, the same as in my Aadhar card. I cannot help it if in the draft rolls 1990 has been made 1900," she told reporters.

Vote theft through scientific means is dangerous to democracy in all States: Congress MP
'Vote theft' through scientific means by the Bharatiya Janata Party is dangerous to democracy in all States, said Virudhunagar MP B. Manickam Tagore. Addressing reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Tagore said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, has exposed how one lakh votes were added in Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency before the 2024 Parliamentary election. 'This had led to the BJP winning the seat with a small margin of 30,000 votes,' he said. The BJP had claimed that it would win 400 seats in the Lok Sabha election, but ended up winning only 239 seats. Similar, 'vote theft' had been done in 48 other constituencies too, he said. Hence, the BJP Government should not be allowed to continue in power in the Centre, he said. When the opposition parties pointed to this irregularity and sought to discuss the issue, their demand was rejected in the Parliament. Three hundred MPs of the opposition parties marched towards the Election Commission office in Delhi. However, the Election Commission did not meet them to clarify, he said. The Congress MP said that it was anti-democratic exercise to conduct Assembly election in Bihar after deleting 18% of the votes of the opposition parties by way of Special Intensive Revision of voters list. In this backdrop, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has planned to take out 'Voters' Right' yatra in Bihar for 17 days from August 17. 'While the BJP partyman gets five votes in the election, it is only one for the common man. For the opposition parties, even that one vote is denied,' he said. Stating that such scientific way of stealing votes was dangerous in other States where BJP was in power, he said the Election Commission was hand in glove with the BJP in such an irregularity.

Give proof, don't use dirty phrases like 'vote chori': Election Commission to Opposition Amid relentless attacks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged voter data fudging, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday (August 14, 2025) said instead of creating a false narrative by using 'dirty phrases' like 'vote chori' (vote theft), proof should be given. In a statement, the ECI said the law for 'one person, one vote' has already been in existence since the first elections in 1951-1952. Pb Cong chief hails AAP retreat on land policy, predicts '27 rout
Ludhiana: Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring Wednesday said the AAP govt's withdrawal of its "anti-farmer" land pooling policy in the state marked a decisive retreat, warning that the ruling party could soon be barred from villages across the state. Addressing senior party leaders in Ludhiana, Warring likened AAP's future to that of its "A-team," the BJP, which he said had been "banished" from rural and urban Punjab. He predicted a severe defeat for AAP in the 2027 assembly elections, accusing it of following the BJP's "rule book". Warring, who also inaugurated six open-air gyms in the city funded through his Local Area Development (LAD) Fund, said Congress was intensifying its outreach to voters. He and senior leaders are meeting residents and grassroots workers to gather feedback on both the government and the party's strategy. He argued AAP had lost credibility through repeated failures and an alleged attempt to "loot" farmers' land, while the SAD was "vertically split" and the BJP "nowhere in the race." "People see only hope in the Congress," Warring said. tnn Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
