Delhi introduces AI-enabled water dispensers at bus terminals. Know more
The Delhi Transport Department has taken steps to install AI smart water dispensers for pilot testing at 16 terminals and 25 kiosks in the city. The move intends to help pedestrians and commuters access chilled drinking water for free, further supporting the newly announced Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.'We have decided to install smart water dispensers at about 25 bus stands to provide free water facilities to bus commuters and pedestrians," emphasised a senior official.advertisementThe sprinklers will be equipped with a 43-inch 'daylight readable' high-definition digital display, allowing for better engagement and enhanced information services.FOR IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY
The latter are outfitted with the following conveniences:AI surveillance: Allowing for monitoring and counting of users.Dispensing through sensors: For operational sanitary use of water.Monitoring filters, checking tank levels: Maintenance, timely refilling and servicing.Cloud technology dashboard: Added wifi/ 4G routers and modems, enable data transmission over the internet at any time. The height of each dispenser will be around 7 feet. Their measurements will also be 4 feet by 4 feet. They will have a minimum purification capacity of 100 litres per hour. An in-built chiller will maintain the water temperature between 15C and 20C.They will have a combined raw and purified water storage capacity of 800 litres. Weather-resistant characteristics will allow these dispensers to withstand the heat, dust, and rain prevalent in Delhi.advertisement'The nature of the current problem is that a particularly large demographic needs to be quenched during Delhi summers, especially those who are vendors and work outdoors,' the official added.IMPLEMENTATION AND MAINTENANCETender contracts for this project are currently being floated, with expectations of installations to be completed in a month. Estimated expenses of installing the dispensers at bus queue shelters are at Rs 20.10 crore and bus terminals are at Rs 72 lakh. The contractor awarded this project will refill the dispensers twice daily, which ensures that clean drinking water can be continuously supplied. This initiative sets forward further steps to ensure the public is able to properly cope with their hydration needs during extreme heat and also shows how technology has been integrated into welfare services.Implementing AI and intelligent systems will help in improving the quality of life of residents in Delhi, setting the benchmark for other cities.

'Traditional banks losing share to fintechs globally'
MUMBAI: Traditional banks are losing ground in the fast-evolving financial services space to agile, tech-driven rivals. Even as overall sector revenues grow, incumbents struggle to hold on to their share, according to Boston Consulting Group's latest Future of Finance report. "Financial services revenues are growing - but banks are not capturing their fair share," BCG says. The value, it notes, is shifting to fintechs, private credit funds, non-bank liquidity providers, and digital-native banks. "Maturing digital assets appear to be on pace to cause significant disruption, with most banks currently on the outside looking in." The fastest-growing players are also the most digitally savvy. Digital attacker banks clocked 85-100% CAGR in revenues over the past five years. Private credit players and retail trading platforms are close behind. Traditional banks, in contrast, posted only 10-15% CAGR, despite holding the largest share of balance-sheet assets. The challengers' edge stems from scalable platforms, lean cost structures, and a digital-first approach. "Non-traditional bank competitors are generating new revenue pools," BCG says. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 최대 할인 지원해드려요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo "The best attackers are positioned for rapid growth, thanks to modern technology stacks and front-to-back digitised operating models." The disruption extends beyond retail finance. In capital markets, boutique advisory firms and non-bank market makers are chipping away at incumbents' fee income. "Private credit has been gnawing away at bank share, particularly in the US," the report says. At the same time, banks are grappling with long-term structural challenges. Fee income is in decline, non-interest income productivity dropped across geographies, and cost pressures are rising. Despite years of tech investment, efficiency improvements are slowing. "Many banks struggle to counter these trends," BCG says, noting that pricing remains an underused lever. Neobanks' cost-to-serve, the report adds, is often a tenth that of incumbents. "New competitors are winning on productivity." Investors have picked up on this divergence. In East Asia and the Eurozone, most bank stocks trade below book value. "Investors are avoiding banks that may be in a vicious cycle of outdated operating model and low profitability," BCG warns. Microsoft offers to boost European governments' cybersecurity for free
Microsoft is offering free of charge to European governments a cybersecurity programme, launched on Wednesday, to bolster their defences against cyber threats, including those enhanced by artificial intelligence, it said. After a surge in cyberattacks in Europe, many linked to state-sponsored actors from China, Iran, North Korea and Russia, the programme aims to boost intelligence-sharing on AI-based threats and help to prevent and disrupt attacks. "If we can bring more to Europe of what we have developed in the United States, that will strengthen cybersecurity protection for more European institutions," Microsoft President Brad Smith told Reuters in an interview. "You're going to see other things we are doing later in the month." Increasingly, attackers employ generative AI to amplify the scale and impact of their operations that range from disrupting critical infrastructure to spreading disinformation. Although malicious actors have weaponised AI, Smith said AI also offered defensive tools. "We don't feel that we have seen AI that has evaded our ability to detect the use of AI or the threats more broadly," Smith said. "Our goal needs to be to keep AI advancing as a defensive tool faster than it advances as an offensive weapon," he said. Microsoft tracks any malicious use of AI models it releases and prevents known cybercriminals from using its AI products. AI-driven deepfakes have included a portrayal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy capitulating to Russian demands in 2022 and a fake audio recording in 2023 that influenced the Slovakian election. Smith said so far audio had been easier to fake than video.

Cyber security upgrade for cooperative banks planned
Lucknow: In a major step toward modernising and securing the state's cooperative banking network, the Yogi govt is set to equip Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Limited and 50 district cooperative banks with advanced cyber security infrastructure. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As part of this initiative, these banks will be onboarded onto a core banking system (CBS)-based cloud platform, ensuring complete safety and transparency of all customer transactions. Leading technology firms such as TCS and Wipro will support the implementation of this ambitious initiative. These companies will help strengthen the cooperative banking system with state-of-the-art technologies for data protection, server management and cyber-attack prevention. The project will also receive support from NABARD, which will provide technical guidance, training, monitoring and financial assistance. The objective is to make all cooperative banks more secure, resilient and trustworthy for their customers. The Yogi govt is not only deploying a robust technological shield but also launching a public awareness campaign on cyber safety. Banking customers will be educated on how to protect themselves from cyber fraud, where to report incidents and which practices are considered safe. Awareness drives will be conducted through bank branches, gram panchayats and digital media. To ensure effective implementation of this initiative, the state govt has made a special budgetary provision of Rs 10 crore for the financial year 2025–26. This fund will be used for establishing technical infrastructure, enhancing server security, conducting training programs, raising cyber awareness and integrating services with the cloud platform.
