HONG KONG, March 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UCLOUDLINK GROUP INC. ('UCLOUDLINK' or the 'Company') (NASDAQ: UCL), the world's first and leading mobile data traffic sharing marketplace, today announced its unaudited financial results for the three months and the full year ended December 31, 2024.
Fourth Quarter 2024 Financial Highlights
Total revenues were US$26.0 million, representing an increase of 19.5% from US$21.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Gross profit was US$11.2 million, representing a decrease of 1.0% from US$11.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Loss from operations was US$1.7 million, compared to US$1.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Net loss was US$1.5 million, compared to US$1.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Adjusted net loss (non-GAAP) was US$3.1 million, compared to adjusted net income of US$1.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA (non-GAAP) was negative US$2.3 million, compared to positive US$1.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Full Year 2024 Financial Highlights
Total revenues were US$91.6 million, representing an increase of 7.1% from US$85.6 million in 2023.
Gross profit was US$44.4 million, representing an increase of 5.7% from US$42.0 million in 2023.
Income from operations was US$4.4 million, compared to US$2.6 million in 2023.
Net income was US$4.6 million, compared to US$2.8 million in 2023.
Adjusted net income (non-GAAP) was US$4.5 million, compared to US$8.5 million in 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA (non-GAAP) was US$7.1 million, compared to US$9.8 million in 2023.
Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2024 Operational Highlights
In the fourth quarter of 2024, total data consumed through the Company's platform was 42,577 terabytes (6,058 terabytes procured by the Company and 36,519 terabytes procured by our business partners), representing a decrease of 3.3% from 44,011 terabytes in the fourth quarter of 2023.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, average daily active terminals were 308,386 (15,354 owned by the Company and 293,032 owned by our business partners), representing a decrease of 2.5% from 316,207 in the fourth quarter of 2023. During the fourth quarter of 2024, 54.3% of daily active terminals were from uCloudlink 1.0 international data connectivity services and 45.7% of daily active terminals were from uCloudlink 2.0 local data connectivity services.
In 2024, total data consumed through the Company's platform was 172,912 terabytes (24,719 terabytes procured by the Company and 148,193 terabytes procured by our business partners), representing a decrease of 4.1% from 180,259 terabytes in 2023.
In 2024, average daily active terminals were 316,688 (16,739 owned by the Company and 299,949 owned by our business partners), representing an increase of 0.2% from 316,104 in 2023. In 2024, 57.4% of daily active terminals were from uCloudlink 1.0 international data connectivity services and 42.6% of daily active terminals were from uCloudlink 2.0 local data connectivity services. Average daily data usage per terminal was 1.55 GB in December 2024.
As of December 31, 2024, the Company had served 2,818 business partners in 62 countries and regions. The Company had 185 patents with 165 approved and 20 pending approval, while the pool of SIM cards was from 391 MNOs globally as of December 31, 2024.

Fourth Quarter 2024 Financial Results
Revenues
Total revenues were US$26.0 million, representing an increase of 19.5% from US$21.7 million in the same period of 2023.
Revenues from services were US$15.0 million, representing an increase of 0.6% from US$14.9 million in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily attributable to the increase in revenues from PaaS and SaaS services.
Revenues from data connectivity services were US$11.7 million, representing a decrease of 0.9% from US$11.8 million in the same period of 2023. The decrease was primarily attributable to a decrease in revenues from international data connectivity services to US$9.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2024 from US$9.8 million in the same period of 2023, which was partially offset by an increase in revenues from local data connectivity services to US$2.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2024 from US$2.0 million in the same period of 2023.
Revenues from PaaS and SaaS services were US$3.0 million, representing an increase of 2.6% from US$2.9 million in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily attributable to business partners increasingly utilizing PaaS and SaaS services to enhance operational efficiency.
Revenues from sales of products were US$11.0 million, representing an increase of 60.9% from US$6.8 million in the same period of 2023, primarily due to the increase in demand for data related products.
Geographic Distribution
During the fourth quarter of 2024, as a percentage of our total revenues, Japan contributed 53.6%, Mainland China contributed 20.0%, North America contributed 12.1%, and other countries and regions contributed the remaining 14.3%, compared to 43.1%, 16.5%, 24.3% and 16.1%, respectively, in the same period of 2023.
Cost of Revenues
Cost of revenues was US$14.8 million, representing an increase of 41.7% from US$10.4 million in the same period of 2023. This increase was in line with the increase in total revenues during the fourth quarter of 2024.
Cost of services was US$6.2 million, representing an increase of 4.2% from US$5.9 million in the same period of 2023.
Cost of products sold was US$8.6 million, representing an increase of 91.5% from US$4.5 million in the same period of 2023.
Gross Profit
Overall gross profit was US$11.2 million, compared to US$11.3 million in the same period of 2023. Overall gross margin was 43.0% in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to 52.0% in the same period of 2023.
Gross profit on services was US$8.8 million, compared to US$9.0 million in the same period of 2023. Gross margin on services was 58.6% in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to 60.1% in the same period of 2023.
Gross profit on sales of products was US$2.4 million, compared to US$2.3 million in the same period of 2023. Gross margin on sales of products was 21.7% in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to 34.2% in the same period of 2023.
Operating Expenses
Total operating expenses were US$14.1 million, compared to US$12.1 million in the same period of 2023.
Research and development expenses were US$1.8 million, representing a decrease of 10.3% from US$2.0 million in the same period of 2023. This decrease was primarily due to a decrease of US$0.4 million in staff costs.
Sales and marketing expenses were US$6.2 million, representing an increase of 52.6% from US$4.1 million in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily due to increases of US$1.5 million in promotional fees, US$0.3 million in service fees, and US$0.2 million in staff costs.
General and administrative expenses were US$6.1 million, representing an increase of 1.1% from US$6.0 million in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily due to an increase of US$0.6 million in professional service fees, which was partially offset by decreases of US$0.3 million in staff costs and US$0.3 million in share-based compensation expenses.
Loss from Operations
Loss from operations was US$1.7 million, compared to US$1.9 million in the same period of 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP)
Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP), which excludes the impact of share-based compensation, fair value gain/loss in other investment, share of profit/loss in equity method investment, net of tax, interest expense, income tax expenses and depreciation and amortization, was negative US$2.3 million, compared to positive US$1.5 million in the same period of 2023.
Net Interest Income
Net interest income was US$0.1 million, compared to US$0.01 million in the same period of 2023.
Net Loss
Net loss was US$1.5 million, compared to US$1.8 million in the same period of 2023.
Adjusted Net Loss/Income (Non-GAAP)
Adjusted net loss, which excludes the impact of share-based compensation, fair value gain/loss in other investment and share of profit/loss in equity method investment, net of tax, was US$3.1 million, compared to adjusted net income of US$1.1 million in the same period of 2023.
Basic and Diluted Loss per ADS
Basic and diluted loss per ADS attributable to ordinary shareholders were US$0.04 in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to US$0.05 in the same period of 2023.
Cash and Cash Equivalents
As of December 31, 2024, the Company had cash and cash equivalents of US$30.1 million, compared to US$27.7 million as of September 30, 2024. The increase was primarily attributable to proceeds of US$5.6 million from bank borrowings and net inflow of US$0.5 million from operations, which was partially offset by repayments of US$2.5 million in other borrowings and a payment of US$0.6 million for capital expenditures.
Capital Expenditures ('CAPEX')
CAPEX was US$0.6 million, compared to US$0.4 million in the same period of 2023.
Full Year 2024 Financial Results
Revenues
Total revenues were US$91.6 million, representing an increase of 7.1% from US$85.6 million in 2023.
Revenues from services were US$60.0 million, representing an increase of 2.4% from US$58.6 million in 2023. This increase was primarily attributable to the increases in revenues from data connectivity services and from PaaS and SaaS services.
Revenues from data connectivity services were US$47.6 million, representing an increase of 1.9% from US$46.7 million in 2023. This increase was primarily attributable to an increase in revenues from international data connectivity services to US$39.5 million in 2024 from US$37.9 million in 2023, as the recovery of international travel continues, which was partially offset by a decrease in revenues from local data connectivity services to US$8.1 million in 2024 from US$8.8 million in 2023.
Revenues from PaaS and SaaS services were US$11.3 million, representing an increase of 8.3% from US$10.4 million in 2023. This increase was primarily attributable to business partners increasingly utilizing PaaS and SaaS services to enhance operational efficiency.
Revenues from sales of products were US$31.6 million, representing an increase of 17.1% from US$27.0 million in 2023, primarily attributable to an increase of US$6.3 million in sales of data related products, which was partially offset by a decrease of US$2.1 million in sales of terminals.
Geographic Distribution
During 2024, as a percentage of our total revenues, Japan contributed 47.4%, Mainland China contributed 24.0%, North America contributed 13.8%, and other countries and regions contributed the remaining 14.8%, compared to 43.4%, 13.0%, 28.1% and 15.5%, respectively, in 2023.
Cost of Revenues
Cost of revenues was US$47.2 million, representing an increase of 8.4% from US$43.6 million in 2023. This increase was primarily due to an increase in cost of products sold.
Cost of services was US$23.5 million, representing a decrease of 3.4% from US$24.3 million in 2023.
Cost of products sold was US$23.7 million, representing an increase of 23.2% from US$19.3 million in 2023, primarily due to product mix.
Gross Profit
Overall gross profit was US$44.4 million, compared to US$42.0 million in 2023. Overall gross margin was 48.4% in 2024, compared to 49.0% in 2023.
Gross profit on services was US$36.5 million, compared to US$34.3 million in 2023. Gross margin on services was 60.8% in 2024, compared to 58.5% in 2023.
Gross profit on sales of products was US$7.9 million, compared to US$7.7 million in 2023. Gross margin on sales of products was 24.9% in 2024, compared to 28.6% in 2023.
Operating Expenses
Total operating expenses were US$42.0 million, compared to US$37.9 million in 2023.
Research and development expenses were US$6.2 million, representing a decrease of 4.0% from US$6.5 million in 2023. This decrease was primarily due to a decrease of US$0.5 million in staff costs, which was partially offset by an increase of US$0.3 million in professional service fees.
Sales and marketing expenses were US$19.9 million, representing an increase of 39.3% from US$14.3 million in 2023. This increase was primarily due to increases of US$3.2 million in promotion fees, US$0.9 million in staff costs, US$0.8 million in operating lease payments, and US$0.7 million in service fees.
General and administrative expenses were US$15.9 million, representing a decrease of 6.8% from US$17.1 million in 2023. This decrease was primarily due to decreases of US$1.6 million in share-based compensation expenses and US$0.8 million in staff costs, which were partially offset by increases of US$0.9 million in professional service fees and US$0.6 million in provision for bad debts.
Income from Operations
Income from operations was US$4.4 million, compared to US$2.6 million in 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP)
Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP), which excludes the impact of share-based compensation, fair value gain/loss in other investment, share of profit/loss in equity method investment, net of tax, interest expense, income tax expenses and depreciation and amortization, was US$7.1 million, compared to US$9.8 million in 2023.

For the first quarter of 2025, UCLOUDLINK expects total revenues to be between US$18.2 million and US$19.5 million, representing an increase of 0.6% to 7.7% compared to the same period of 2024. For 2025, UCLOUDLINK expects total revenues to be between US$95.0 million and US$130.0 million, representing an increase of 3.7% to 41.9% from 2024.

National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Sunday that he is 'very comfortable' with a trade deal closing between the United States and China after the two sides meet Monday in London. Hassett's comments on CBS' 'Face the Nation' come after President Donald Trump said last week that he had a 'very good' conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and that talks with China are 'very far advanced.' Hassett said the United States is looking to restore the flow of 'crucial' rare earth minerals, which are used in the manufacturing of electronics, to the same levels before early April, when the US-China trade war escalated. 'Those exports of critical minerals have been getting released at a rate that is higher than it was, but not as high as we believe we agreed to in Geneva,' Hassett said. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will lead the negotiations in London, along with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who in May led a weekend of the trade talks in Geneva. But tensions between the nations escalated weeks later after Trump posted on Truth Social that China 'totally violated' its 90-day trade agreement, which had dialed back the tit-for-tat trade war. Under the agreement, the US temporarily lowered its overall tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China cut its levies on American imports from 125% to 10%. Under the agreement, China said it would suspend or cancel its non-tariff countermeasures imposed on the United States since April 2. Part of Beijing's retaliatory measures included export restrictions on some rare earth minerals, which are essential parts used in products such as iPhones, electric vehicles and fighter jets. The Trump administration on April 2 imposed sweeping 'reciprocal' tariffs on dozens of trading partners before pausing them for 90 days and lowering them to a 10% baseline. Hassett on Sunday declined to say what baseline tariffs could be in place moving forward as the Trump administration continues negotiations with trading partners ahead of the July 9 deadline. 'You could be certain that there's going to be some tariffs,' Hassett said. Lutnick told CNN's 'State of the Union' in May that 'we will not go below 10%' and to expect that baseline rate for the foreseeable future. The Trump administration has so far announced only one trade deal, with the United Kingdom. The Trump administration has touted that other countries, particularly China, will bear the burden of tariffs. Businesses and economists have warned otherwise, spurring uncertainty about consumer spending and fears of a potential recession. Amid those concerns, US inflation slowed to its lowest rate in more than four years in April. The annual inflation rate fell from a 2.4% increase in March to 2.3% as consumer prices rose 0.2%, according to Consumer Price Index data. 'All of our policies together are reducing inflation and helping reduce the deficit by getting revenue from other countries,' Hassett said. The Treasury Department reported that a record $16.3 billion was collected in gross customs duties in April, a sharp jump from the $8.75 billion that was collected in March. Since the start of the 2025 fiscal year, which began in October 2024, the United States has collected about $63.3 billion in gross customs duties — a more than $15 billion increase from the same period during the last fiscal year. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that increased tariff revenue, without accounting for effects on the US economy, could reduce total deficits by $3 trillion over the next decade. The US government deficit stood at about $2 trillion in 2024, or roughly 7% of gross domestic product, according to a June 2024 report by the CBO. Meanwhile, House Republicans' sweeping bill to enact Trump's policy agenda would pile another $3.8 trillion to the government's $36 trillion debt pile, according to recent CBO estimates. Both sides have accused the other of reneging on a deal in Geneva in May where they tried to start dialing back their trade war. Relations have spiraled since President Donald Trump's return to the White House, stoking uncertainty for companies and investors. China said Saturday it approved some applications for rare-earth exports, without specifying which countries or industries were involved — after Trump said Friday that Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to restart the flow of minerals and magnets using the materials. 'We want the rare earths, the magnets that are crucial for cell phones and everything else to flow just as they did before the beginning of April and we don't want any technical details slowing that down,' Kevin Hassett, head of the National Economic Council at the White House, said Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation. 'And that's clear to them.' US-China trade tensions escalated this year as a series of duty hikes on each other's goods sent tariffs well above 100% before hitting a pause. While the Geneva deal was meant to pave the way for a broader de-escalation, subsequent talks quickly stalled amid mutual recriminations. The US complained about a decline in shipments of rare-earth magnets essential for American electric vehicles and defense systems, while China bristled at tightened US restrictions on artificial intelligence chips from Huawei Technologies Co., access to other advanced technologies and crackdowns on foreign students in the US. Trump's reprieve on US tariffs for Chinese goods runs out in August, unless he decides to extend it. If deals aren't reached, the White House has said Trump plans to restore tariff rates to the levels he first announced in April, or lower numbers that exceed the current 10% baseline. In London, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will meet a Chinese delegation led by Vice Premier He Lifeng. Trump offered a positive spin on what has been a rollercoaster relationship since he took office in January, saying on social media that the talks should go 'very well.' While a call between Trump and Xi last week generated some hope on Wall Street for lower duties between the trading partners, investors' optimism was limited. While promising to reshape US trading relationships, the US president has reached only one new trade agreement — with the UK. The Geneva meeting underscored the challenge of deal-making between China and the US. 'There was confusion and misunderstanding or misinterpretation intentionally on both sides, depending on how you look at it, about what was agreed to,' said Josh Lipsky, chair of international economics at the Atlantic Council. 'They left too many things open to interpretation and they all paid the price for it in the intervening weeks.' After the two leaders spoke, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Trump told Xi that Chinese students are welcome to study in the US. Trump later said it would be his 'honor' to welcome them. For now, Xi appears to be betting that a reset in ties will lead to tangible wins in the weeks and months ahead, including tariff reductions, an easing of export controls and a less-fraught tone. The US and China 'just want to get back to where they were in Switzerland with a few more agreements down on paper to actually understand what is gonna be licensed, what gets permitted, what doesn't,' Lipsky said. Could Nebius Group Be a Sleeper Growth Pick?

Investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is expected to reach nearly $7 trillion by next decade, according to McKinsey & Company. As demand for data centers, network equipment, and chips continue to rise, so does access to this infrastructure. Nebius Group offers a unique cloud-based solution for AI developers seeking access to high-performance AI training and inferencing compute power. 10 stocks we like better than Nebius Group › When it comes to investing in artificial intelligence (AI) stocks, some of the most common opportunities reside in software platforms and semiconductors. But one pocket of the AI realm that is steadily starting to gain some traction is infrastructure. Think of it this way: When cloud hyperscalers such as Amazon, Microsoft, or Alphabet each say they are spending tens of billions of dollars on AI capital expenditures (capex), only some of this spend is allocated toward chipsets and network equipment supplied by the likes of Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, or Broadcom. In the background, there are companies that are actually building the data centers and graphics processing unit (GPU) clusters in which they reside. This is where Nebius Group (NASDAQ: NBIS) comes into play. Let's explore what Nebius does and how the company is riding the tailwinds of rising AI infrastructure investment. Could Nebius be an under-the-radar opportunity for growth investors right now? Nebius operates across four segments. The company's core business is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) business -- essentially offering customers the ability to access high-performance compute architecture via the cloud. In addition, Nebius has three subsidiaries: Avride, Toloka, and TripleTen. Avride is an emerging force in the autonomous vehicle industry, and recently struck a partnership with global car manufacturer Hyundai. Toloka serves as a data partner for large language models (LLMs) and AI developers including Anthropic, Microsoft, and Shopify. TripleTen is a software platform marketed toward the education industry, which is another budding area where AI could lead to some transformative changes. While Nebius is a diversified business and positioned to benefit from AI in many different ways, most investors tend to focus on the company's infrastructure segment. The company works closely with Nvidia, allowing its customers to access a series of different GPU architectures. At the end of the first quarter, Nebius' IaaS business was operating at a $249 million annual recurring revenue (ARR) run rate. While this might not seem like much at first, consider this: Management is guiding toward an ARR run rate between $750 million and $1 billion by year-end, as well as positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). How is Nebius going to increase its core infrastructure segment by nearly fourfold over the next six months? For starters, the company's data center footprint is expanding rapidly. In addition to existing projects in France and Finland, the company is also building out new infrastructure in Iceland, Kansas City, and New Jersey. Moreover, these new data centers will be equipped with the most in-demand GPUs on the market -- of course, I'm talking about Nvidia Blackwell, Grace Blackwell, and Blackwell Ultra architectures. When you consider that major hyperscalers are on pace to spend more than $300 billion on AI capex just this year, coupled with industry forecasts calling for $6.7 trillion of infrastructure spend by next decade, Nebius appears to have strong secular tailwinds fueling its long-run growth narrative. When it comes to investing in Nebius, valuation is a little bit challenging, given the company's corporate history. Toward the end of 2024, Nebius was actually spun out of a Russian internet conglomerate called Yandex. As part of the deal structure, Nebius become an independent entity and listed on the Nasdaq exchange. Given the limited financial picture available to investors, I don't find traditional valuation metrics such as price-to-sales (P/S) or other ratios entirely helpful when looking at Nebius. Rather, I'd like to look at the company relative to some peers. One of the closest comparable public companies to Nebius is AI cloud infrastructure provider CoreWeave, which went public earlier this year. As the graph makes clear, not only does CoreWeave boast a much larger market capitalization than Nebius, but its value is actually expanding. Granted, there are reasons for this. CoreWeave is a much larger company than Nebius on the sales front, and the company continues to strike lucrative partnerships with AI's biggest developers. But even so, it's hard to deny CoreWeave's valuation momentum right now compared to the mundane price action in Nebius. To me, Nebius is flying under the radar -- completely overshadowed by CoreWeave's popularity. I see robust growth ahead for Nebius both in the short and long run, and I think the company's relationships with Nvidia and others in the AI landscape could lead to larger, more strategic deals over time. For these reasons, I would encourage investors looking for new growth opportunities in the AI space to consider a position in the infrastructure services pocket -- and particularly in Nebius.
