Actor and comedian Bill Murray has been named as the Grand Marshal for the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Series race on September 7. The 74-year-old will say those famous words before the race at the World Wide Technology Raceway.
NASCAR Grand Marshals saying "Drivers, start your engines" was inspired by the 1953 Indianapolis 500. The original version addressed drivers as "Gentlemen," but with the participation of female drivers in the sport, it evolved into "Ladies and gentlemen," eventually settling on a more neutral greeting.
Murray's iconic entertainment career spans over 40 years. He gained immense popularity through his Emmy Award-winning role on the Saturday Night Live show in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he became known for his roles in Caddyshack (1980), Ghostbusters (1984), and Ghostbusters II (1989). Murray also had his stint with filmmaking through movies like Quick Change, which was released in 1990.
WWT Raceway announced on X that Murray will be the NASCAR Grand Marshal next month for the Enjoy Illinois 300. The post read:

The 2025 NASCAR season also marks the return of the Xfinity Series to the WWT Raceway after 15 years, given its last event in 2010. Earlier, the series was hosted between 1997 and 2010.
The Xfinity race will be a 200-lap, 250-mile event at the WWT Raceway, which is slated to host the race until 2031. Speaking on the return of the Xfinity Series to the WWT Raceway, owner and CEO Curtis Francois said last year:
"Ever since I purchased and reopened the track, one of the most-asked questions has been 'When will the Xfinity Series come back? I'm happy to finally share with our loyal fans that they are coming back in 2025. We greatly appreciate NASCAR's willingness to reunite us with the Xfinity Series, which previously had been a staple and fan favorite at this facility.
"World Wide Technology Raceway's list of Xfinity Series winners and participants proves that this truly is one of the tracks where legends are born. Our track is perfectly designed for intense racing action and each event always generated a tremendous amount of excitement and drama, both on and off the track."
Xfinity Series veteran driver Justin Allgaier added:
"It's great to know that we are going back to World Wide Technology Raceway with the NASCAR Xfinity Series. To be able to race so close to home is incredibly special to not only myself, but to my family, friends and to BRANDT Professional Agriculture. This place is right in our backyards and I can't wait to get there next year."

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Drops Entire Tier in Latest Quarterback Rankings

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. This is the presumed final year in the NFL for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers took his time deciding on where he would sign, after he had been attached to the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and the Steelers. More news: Shedeur Sanders Has Shocking Spot on Browns Second Depth Chart Following the announcement that he would sign with the Steelers, he dropped the bombshell on the "Pat McAfee Show" that he would likely play only 2025, and that's it. Rodgers played with the New York Jets in 2024, and despite the team's 5-12 record, he still had an impressive year. He spent the season behind a shaky offensive line and was sacked 40 times in 2024. Rodgers being sacked 40 times was good for the ninth-most in the league. Despite that, he still managed to bring in 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. According to a report done by Mike Sando of The Athletic, and polling votes, all starting quarterbacks were placed into tiers 1-4. Rodgers held a Tier 2 rating in 2024, which has since dropped to Tier 3. The explanation for Tier 3 states: "A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best." Rodgers is in the class with Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence, Geno Smith, and more. Had he been in Tier 2, he would have been in the same category as Jayden Daniels, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, C.J. Stroud, and more. The explanation for Tier 2 quarterbacks is as follows: "A Tier 2 quarterback can carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can handle pure-passing situations in doses and/or possesses other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above Tier 3. He has a hole or two in his game." Rodgers has always been viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, often being talked about as a top 10 signal caller. Now, he is not even top 15 per these new rankings. In fact, his ranking of starting quarterbacks in No. 16. He is one space behind Murray at No. 15, and one ahead of Tagovailoa at No. 17. Rodgers can certainly quiet down the noise with an impressive 2025 performance, especially if the Steelers make a deep playoff run. The issue is that the aging veteran is 41 years old, and his game has clearly taken a step back. For more on the Steelers, head to Newsweek Sports.

Trackhouse Opens up on Connor Zilisch's Chances of Racing Return After Scary Fall

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks has opened up about the timeline for Connor Zilisch's return to NASCAR after the injury he suffered while celebrating his Xfinity Series race win at Watkins Glen International. Zilisch tried to climb on top of his car to celebrate his victory, but he lost his balance and fell hard. The 19-year-old driver was rushed to the medical center, where he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone, which meant he would be absent from the Cup Series race for Trackhouse the following day. With the next weekend being an off-weekend for the Xfinity Series, it will offer Zilisch enough time to recover. However, it remains to be seen if he will be race-ready for the following race weekend. Speaking on the topic of when the young driver would return, Marks suggested that the matter isn't simple, as it warrants discussions with several parties while ensuring Zilisch receives the care and motivation to bounce back stronger. He said: "I think it's a discussion that we all have to have. We haven't really talked about much, obviously, since yesterday, but in the little bit that we've discussed in some of the quiet moments over the last 24 hours, it's going to have to be a group decision. More"It's going to have to be sponsors, Chevrolet, the team, taking care of his development, taking care of him as a human and as an athlete, and then keeping his motivations high and making sure he knows he's got a group of people behind him that are supportive of him." Zilisch gave a detailed account of the events that led to his fall. He said: "I was climbing out of the car, and obviously the window net was on the door and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped and the last thing I remember was being halfway down and falling. So glad it wasn't any worse and that the collarbone the extent of the injuries, but I hate I couldn't make it to the race today and give myself a shot to get a good result for Trackhouse and Red Bull." Zilisch has been having a spectacular Xfinity season so far, securing five wins in the last eight races. He currently leads the points standings in his rookie year. However, with his racing return date still not confirmed, it remains to be seen if he will be ready to race in the Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway on August 22.
