NBI ready to lend forensic expertise in missing sabungero case

Julie "Dondon" Patidongan or alias Totoy, one of the accused in the case, previously said that the bodies of the 34 missing sabungeros were buried in Taal Lake.
Due to this, the Philippine government has asked Japan for technical assistance.
Meanwhile, the Department of Science and Technology also said that the agency is willing to lend its expertise and equipment in the search for the sabungeros.
Last week, Patidongan also named businessman Atong Ang as a mastermind in the case. He also linked actress Gretchen Barretto to the disappearance.
The two have denied the allegations against them, with Ang saying that Patidongan threatened to link him to the disappearance if he refused to pay P300 million while Barretto said she received a similar threat. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

5 Vietnamese nabbed for conducting cosmetic procedures without license
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday announced the arrest of five Vietnamese for unauthorized practice of medicine in Makati City. 2 Malaysians arrested in Cebu City for alleged use of illegal transceivers, 'sniffing devices'
Two Malaysians staying at a hotel in Cebu City have been arrested for alleged distribution and use of illicit transceivers and 'sniffing devices,' the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Tuesday. According to the NBI, the two individuals were found to be in possession of and operating illegal transceivers and an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) catcher during an operation on June 28. Following this, authorities sought for an application for a warrant to search, seize, and examine computer data. They served the warrant at the hotel on August 8. Authorities confirmed that the laptops, cellphones, antennas, and other modular setups were cellular and data sniffers that could capture data up to the 5G network. The NBI said the equipment will undergo further examination. Meanwhile, the agency said that cases for violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 are being prepared for filing. Fire inspector nabbed for robbery extortion, found guilty — NBI
A fire inspector who was previously arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents for attempting to extort P400,000 from a job applicant has been found guilty by the Ombudsman, the bureau said Tuesday. In a statement, the NBI said the Office of the Ombudsman found the fire inspector administratively liable for violating the Republic Act 6713 and grave misconduct. He was dismissed from service with perpetual disqualification from holding office, forfeiture of retirement benefits, cancellation of his Civil Service Eligibility, and is prohibited from the Civil Service Exam. The NBI arrested the man during an entrapment operation on June 27. According to the bureau, the arrest stemmed from the complaint of an applicant that the fire inspector asked 'thanksgiving money' from her in the amount of P400,000 in exchange for her inclusion in the final roster of candidates for the position of Fire Safety Officer I.
