Watch: Bob MacIntyre sinks 40ft putt to send Ryder Cup message to US hecklers

Telegrapha day ago
First Bob MacIntyre faced down the US hecklers who were no doubt warming up their dimwitted jousts for next month's Ryder Cup. And then the Scot holed a 40-footer on the last to signal to Scottie Scheffler that he will not simply be swept aside for a £2.7m first prize.
Exclamation on 18!

Luke Donald would have loved watching this third round of the BMW Championship, the penultimate event in the PGA Tour's season-closing FedEx Cup.
There was MacIntyre, the 29-year-old from Oban, refusing to be intimidated by Scheffler, despite the world No 1 digging into his five-shot overnight lead. MacIntyre's grandstand moment in Baltimore handed him a four-shot advantage over Scheffler and ensured he has all the motivation for what could be the biggest Sunday of his sporting life thus far.
The 14th will but crystallise his desire.
MacIntyre was faced with an eight-footer and, as well as all the usual 'USA, USA' garbage, there was personal slander hurled from the hospitality section overlooking the green of the par-four. When the putt dropped, MacIntyre swivelled on his spine and gestured back to the miscreant, keeping his putter-head pointed at him as he walked off the green.
Asked about his clash with the galleries, MacIntyre laughed as he talked about Ryder Cup rivalries.
'We're in America, playing against their sweetheart Scottie, who I get on well with, he's a great guy,' he said. 'I expected it today and I expect it again tomorrow. You give me c--p, I'll give you c--p back. I'm not scared of that.'
MacIntyre is not to be messed with. He still plays for his local shinty team, and if the Americans want to look that up on Google they will see the ferocity. This might make all this yet more significant to 'Big Time Bob'.
Granted, MacIntyre is such a passionate Scot that he would doubtlessly say that his national open is still the high point, even if he prevails at Caves Valley. But with the enormous riches on offer, and more pertinently the scalp of Scheffler, the rest of the world would be forgiven for ranking this top of the pile.
The left-hander from Oban bogeyed the first but then reeled off three birdies and 14 pars, including a quite miraculous save on the drivable par-four fifth, when his tee shot ended in thick bush adjacent to the green.
It was impressive that the ball was even found, and when MacIntyre somehow hacked out onto the green, before two-putting for par, the stunned expression on Scheffler's face said it all.

It looks a two-golfer race as Ludvig Aberg is two shots further back on 10 under after a 68.
Donald will also be thrilled at the Swede's display so far after question marks were raised about his form with a month to go until next month's match in New York. Sam Burns is in a tie for fourth with Harry Hall – the Cornishman who himself is launching a late bid for a Bethpage berth – and Scheffler's close ally could force himself into the wild-card picture for Team USA. So much to play for.
Indeed, Sunday has the potential to be a decisive day for Europe, too. Rasmus Hojgaard holds the lead in the Danish Championship on the DP World Tour and if the home hero can convert his advantage into silverware in Copenhagen, then he could all but confirm his place in Donald's dozen.
Hojgaard, the 24-year-old whose twin Nicolai played in the last Ryder Cup, is 13 under and one clear of England's Marco Penge. Should he prevail, it is highly likely that the surnames of the Europe team will be the same as in 2023 – with just the Hojgaard Christian name being different.

Robert MacIntyre blows four-shot lead as Scottie Scheffler wins BMW Championship

Bob MacIntyre blew a four-shot lead in the final round as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler produced a moment of magic to clinch victory at the BMW Championship in Maryland. MacIntyre's big overnight advantage was whittled to a single stroke after he started Sunday with two bogeys, and despite a gallant effort he could do nothing to quell the American's mounting momentum. Back within touching distance with two to play, MacIntyre watched as Scheffler nailed a remarkable chip from the rough to effectively confirm his victory on the penultimate hole. It was hard to take for MacIntyre, who had produced his own memorable moment on the final hole on Saturday when he sunk a 41-foot putt to retain his significant advantage. Seeking the win that would have sealed his place in Europe's Ryder Cup team, MacIntyre made a nightmare start on Sunday but Scheffler too was far from perfect, a missed putt restoring the Scot's two-stroke lead after three. The American hauled level on five after MacIntyre found a bunker on his approach shot, and Scheffler looked to be in irresistible form as he moved two clear on the 13th. MacIntyre reduced the deficit again but the 15th proved pivotal as the Oban man failed to capitalise on Scheffler finding a bunker with approach shot, a missed birdie putt handing the momentum back to the American. After Scheffler's uproarious response on the 17th, MacIntyre failed to respond with more final hole magic and putted out for a three-over-par final round of 73, two shots off Scheffler's 15-under-par total of 265. "He's hit a great shot," MacIntyre said of Scheffler's pyrotechnics at the 17th. "Nothing you can do with that. I just didn't play good enough. "I got off to an absolutely horrific start. I just expected jumpers on one and two. One, it's come out dead and then it's got a massive mud ball just short of the green. "I just felt great going out today. I wasn't even expecting to be over par, to be honest. I was really expecting to go out there, foot down, and perform the way I have the last couple days." A final round of 67 shunted Tommy Fleetwood up to a tie for fourth place behind American Maverick McNealy, but Harry Hall, who started Sunday tied for fourth, fell away with a disappointing 70 to finish in sixth place. was hampered by back-to-back double bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes respectively as he failed to make inroads on the chasing pack, matching Hall's final round of 70 to finish down in a tie for 12th.

Heartbroken Bob MacIntyre wants to smash up his golf clubs as he brutally rejects Scheffler theory

The Scottish golf star watched a four-shot lead evaporate on a baking hot day in Maryland Raging Bob MacIntyre insists his heartbreaking defeat at the BMW Championships had nothing to do with sizzling Scottie Scheffler breathing down his neck. ‌ The Scottish golf star watched a four-shot lead evaporate on a baking hot day in Maryland as the world's best player punished MacIntyre's error-strewn three-over-par round with his own 67 to add to a brilliant year which doubled his major win totals to four. ‌ MacIntyre was off form from the get go and the calmness which underlined his first three rounds at Caves Valley went into hiding as he failed to keep up with the magic Scheffler was able to produce – most notably with his audacious chip-in from the edge of the green on 17th. ‌ The Oban star wasn't having it when he was asked whether the brilliance of Scheffler spooked him. 'Not at all. I mean, I can't control what he does. Look, I mean if he doesn't hole out, he doesn't get up and down, on 17, he holes it. If he didn't get up and down there, my ball didn't fly two yards long, it may have been a different story. But look, he's the better player on the day. Yeah, I'm just really pissed off right now. MacIntyre was then pressed what it would take to overhaul Scheffler and he fired back with an emphatic response. He added: 'I mean, right now, not a clue. Right now, I want to go and smash up my golf clubs, to be honest with you.' Speaking after his latest win, Scheffler said: "I think my consistency has a lot to do with the intensity I bring to each round. I try not to take days or shots off. When it gets to this time of the year it can be a little bit tiring, today was a grind." Gutted Robert MacIntyre admits he BLEW it as he loses BMW duel with Open champ Scottie Scheffler

BOB MacINTYRE blew a four-shot lead as Open champion Scottie Scheffler won by two at the BMW Championship. The Oban left-hander had led from day one after scintillating rounds of 62, 64 and 68 in Maryland. 3 3 But he suffered a horror start to his final round as World No1 Scheffler scorched to glory. MacIntyre had bogeys at the first, second and fifth and never recovered as he hit a three-over round of 73. Scheffler led by the turn at Caves Valley and finished with a three-under 67 to grab the $3.6million winner's cheque. MacIntyre, who earned $2.16m as runner-up, edged back to within one stroke of Scheffler but dropped another shot on the 13th. Scheffler then shed a shot but birdied the 15th to restore a two-shot lead. MacIntyre, 29, halved that advantage again with his first birdie of the day on the 16th hole. But Scheffler - who has now had 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s - ended his hopes when he holed from off the green at the 17th. It was a cruel end for MacIntyre, who held on for second place ahead of Maverick McNealy. And he didn't hold back as he asssessed his final round. The Oban ace said: "I didn't feel like I controlled distance well. It was just a poor day. Watch moment Scots golf ace Robert MacIntyre wins new fans with 'pure class' gesture after US Open heartbreak "Right now, it's absolutely disastrous. Without swearing, it was abysmal. "I don't know what else to say - absolutely abysmal." The second-placed finish also guarantees MacIntyre's spot on Luke Donald's European team at next month's Ryder Cup. The Scot will tee it up at Bethpage State Park - and got into the spirit of things for that clash during his third round when he shushed a noisy fan in the crowd. But the Ryder Cup spot seemed like scant consolation for MacIntyre after coming so close - yet so far - from what would have been the biggest win of his career so far.
