'Touring with Oasis was messy' says huge musician as he spills on new music plans

Liam and Noel Gallagher have put their differences aside as they prepare to reunite this summer for their mega word tour as Stereophonics' Kelly Jones recalls their wild tour
Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones has revealed exactly what it was like touring with the Gallagher brothers at the height of their Oasis fame and teased they're back in the studio. Waring siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher have finally put their differences aside to reunite for a string of dates this summer.
The duo will share the stage together for the first time since 2009 in just a matter of weeks. Fans are eagerly awaiting what to expect from the sold-out world tour that kicks off in Cardiff in July, with speculation mounting as Noel has been spotted in the studio. The Britpop icons have remained silent on whether fans can expect new music, as Kelly has now weighed in. Sharing his thoughts on the record-breaking reunion, he said: 'It's good that they got back together. It's taken a long time.

"The band aside, just the magnitude of those shows and the magnitude of people wanting to be at shows is an amazing thing for musicians to be part of and for them to have that second bite of the cherry after everything that's gone on, it's pretty amazing really.'
Kelly has even toured with Oasis as his band Stereophonics headed to Japan at the same time with the 90s stars. Summing up the wild experience, Kelly told NME:"Pretty messy but good fun."
He admitted Noel "took him under his wing" following the release of Stereophonics' third album Just Enough Education To Perform.
Kelly added: 'Funnily enough, I found some old pictures of me and Noel rehearsing when he used to have a studio down in Windsor recently, just before we toured America.
"We were having a laugh about them and I asked him what he'd been up to and he said he'd been doing some writing in the studio."
Giving his verdict on Oasis releasing new music, Kelly said: "I'm assuming he's doing some writing for either his stuff or if they're [Oasis] gonna bring out a couple songs, I don't know.'

Liam and Noel have secretly been reuniting in recent weeks as they were pictured together for the first time in years during preparations for the tour.
The two brothers were spotted arriving at a working men's club in Newington Green, London, last week. It is understood Noel and Liam were shooting promo material for Adidas for a new collaboration between them and the sports brand.

Speaking on X, Liam told fans reuniting with his big brother for the shoot had been a "biblical" experience. He posted: "It was more a video kind of thing like a mini film and word on the street it was BIBLICAL. I just get in and out I don't hang around looking at the screen I'll see it when you cats see it"
He also teased followers that he's desperate to get back to performing live with Oasis again, "The stage is my safe space it's where I get a bit of peace n quiet," he penned.
The Mirror revealed earlier in April, the eagerly-awaited Oasis reunion will happen next month - with band rehearsals beginning in May.

Noel has been back in the studio on his own rehearsing songs and working on new material in London. They added: "Noel is often in and out of the studio working on things, he is a singer songwriter so it's only natural.
"But Liam is a singer and he has a long list of dates ahead of him with Oasis this year so he will not be overdoing rehearsals. After a big solo Definitely Maybe tour your last year, the main thing his voice needs at the moment is rest. He has been relaxing recently and spending time with his mum Peggy.
"The plan is for the band to start meeting up in May. They will jam around and work out a set list and Liam will be the last one to join in with the vocals. There is plenty of time and Liam is a born rock'n'roll star who has lived and breathed these songs and performed a lot of them in his own solo shows so he doesn't need much practice. But the rest of the band do need to rehearse more, especially as there is a new drummer in the mix."

EXCLUSIVE I sold records to Noel and Liam Gallagher when they were boys and was namedropped in one of their hit songs... tourists have flooded into my shop looking for Oasis stuff EVERY DAY since

Oasis's musical inspirations are famously plentiful: from The Beatles and The Kinks, to T-Rex, Slade and even an iconic Coca-Cola ad. It's a terrifying thought, but without this fledgling rock 'n' roll education, Liam and Noel Gallagher 's utter domination of 90s British popular culture might never have taken root. Peter Howard, then, can make a genuine claim to changing the course of music history. Owner of Sifter Records in Burnage, Manchester since 1977, he is the man who helped shape the future Live Forever stars' early tastes in singles, albums and everything in between. The boys repaid the favour, immortalising Mr Howard, aka Mr Sifter, in their 1994 hit Shakermaker in a line penned by Noel just before their ascent to superstardom. 'Mr Sifter sold me songs, when I was just 16. Now he stops at traffic lights, but only when they're green,' Liam croons on what was just their second single. With the brothers just a month away from a comeback 16 years in the making, Mr Howard, speaking from his now 48-year-old shop, has described what it's like to be the first stop on the Oasis tour trail. He told MailOnline: 'I've had tourists in every day since Shakermaker, often from South Korea and Japan. 'I've always done well out of it, it's given me steady business. 'It injected new life into the business -so [we are grateful]. A lot of people mention Oasis when they come in here. 'They have been huge, a lot bigger than we thought they'd be.' If Liam's zany lines in Shakermaker are to be believed, the boys stepped into Sifters' store in the late 80s. But aside from the odd filming day, they have scarcely returned since they paid homage to their favourite record dealer on a track which would become a highlight of their debut album Definitely Maybe. 'In recent years Noel's been in,' Mr Howard, 77, recalled. 'He filmed a documentary here last year. 'Liam hasn't been back in the shop since, and neither have been back as customers for many years.' The musicians are putting their differences to one side this summer for the first time since a bitter feud broke the band up in 2009, performing 19 shows in the UK and Ireland amid a world tour. The band can be seen sifting through the disks as they film the music video inside the record store How Sifters was namechecked by Oasis Sifters and its owner were namechecked in Shakermaker from their debut album Definitely Maybe - Oasis' first top 20 hit, which peaked at number 11 in the UK charts. The store - where the brothers used to buy their records - was also featured in the music video, where the band can be seen sifting through his disks. The lyric goes: 'Mister Sifter sold me songs, 'When I was just sixteen, 'Now he stops at traffic lights, 'But only when they're green.' The Oasis Live 25 tour kicks off on July 4 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium before playing sell-out gigs Wembley Stadium in London, Edinburgh's Murrayfield stadium and Croke Park in Dublin. They are also making a long-awaited return to their home city, Manchester, with five concerts at Heaton Park, 29 years after their iconic shows at Maine Road, the home of their boyhood football team Man City. The area is alive with anticipation ahead of the gigs and Mr Howard is hopeful the Gallagher brothers can give his business a boost once again. 'Not much has altered in recent years, but things might change though come July hopefully when there are more tourists in town,' he said. But the huge events, which saw millions queue online for tickets last August, are also a source of anxiety for the original 'Mr Sifter' with visitors often expecting something different from his shop. He said: 'I'm nervous ahead of the concerts 'It's a bit embarrassing really, it's just a second-hand shop. We've got no steady source for material, just whatever anyone hands in. 'Tourists come expecting souvenirs but the original LPs are either too expensive or people don't want to bring them in. They don't sell them readily to second hand shops like me Posters on the walls at Sifters show artists including Guns N' Roses, local boys Oasis and their idols The Beatles 'It's all a bit embarrassing if I've got nothing to show them. Hopefully they don't abuse me too much. 'But people always say, 'what a nice shop', I suppose they're not rude enough to criticise us. 'This summer, we can bask in the glory of the band and the concerts.' While Noel and the rest of the band have already kicked off band rehearsals without the frontman, Liam finally joined the rest for a full set run-through on Thursday, just weeks before the world tour begins. In typical Liam style, the singer made a chaotic entrance to rehearsals, arriving in a van laden with Lockets and cough syrup, suggesting his vocal cords were in need of some TLC. The rehearsals would have been the first time Noel and Liam have played together since the V Festival in Staffordshire back in August 2009. Just days later, the band split following a huge row ahead of the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. According to reports, fans of the band have Noel's daughter Anais to thank for the long-awaited reunion tour. The model, 25, is said to have helped bring the estranged siblings back together after 'planting the idea' of a reconciliation. Anais also helped piece together the set list and give an insight into what younger fans might want to hear. According to The Sun, a source said: 'Anais could tell her dad really wanted both his brothers, Liam and Paul, by his side after the split so was determined to get them back in touch.' They continued: 'She gets on great with Liam's sons Gene and Lennon so she asked them if their dad would be willing to hear her out. 'It enabled her to plant the idea of a reconciliation on both sides. Thanks to her close relationship with Liam, she was able to call him. Once Liam called Noel, the rest was left up to them.'

Oasis, Pulp & Suede are all playing huge tours – we can ride the Britpop wave too

They had three top five albums and a legendary run of nine successive top 20 singles RETRO SCENE Oasis, Pulp & Suede are all playing huge tours – we can ride the Britpop wave too Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) OCEAN Colour Scene hope to ride a BritPop wave spurred on by this summer's Oasis reunion. The 90s rockers shot to fame with huge anthems such as The Riverboat Song and Traveller's Tune in their heyday. 3 Ocean Colour Scene will play in Glasgow later this month 3 The group in their 90s heyday 3 They supported Oasis at Knebworth They famously supported Liam and Noel at their massive Loch Lomond and Knebworth shows nearly 30 years ago. Although this time they won't be warming up for the warring brothers' comeback - as they have their own headline gig at Glasgow's Queens Park later this month. Guitarist Steve Cradock, 55, said: 'We're from a generation that grew up listening to records. That era is still well-loved and it was a great time where amazing music came from our shores. 'People get nostalgic about it because it was such a good time.' The group, which also includes frontman Simon Fowler, drummer Oscar Harrison and bass player Raymond Meade, will also perform two big dates at Dundee's Slessor Gardens in July. With three top five albums and a legendary run of nine successive top 20 singles, the band have plenty of material to keep such large crowds happy. But Steve believes it's extra important to impress their Scottish fans - as they are the main reason the band hit the big time. Steve, who also plays guitar for Paul Weller's band, said: 'Scotland feels like our home ground and I think it goes back to around 1996 when we put out our Moseley Shoals album. 'We just released the Riverboat Song, we were on Top of the Pops, and we had eight Scottish gigs and our promoter thought we wouldn't do them. 'But we never cancelled them. That established Scotland as our base and then we had a Stirling Castle date in 1998. Noel Gallagher looks stony-faced as he makes lonely Tube journey to Oasis rehearsals – but Liam's entrance is chaotic 'It's like our hometown. Why that is I don't know. Most bands will say that to you about Scotland. 'But there's something exceptional in the Scottish DNA.' Even after 35 years, Steve reckons the band is still improving. They completed a huge UK tour in April and had so much fun they immediately added many more dates for the summer. As they've got older, the guitarist reckons they've also got smarter. He said: 'We've all got our s*** together so it's been a joy. 'Every show was a dream. The audiences were fantastic and that just keeps happening. The songs keep growing and the crowds keep growing. 'We keep finding new fans. It's a strange one. If you're in a household and your parents are playing our tunes, it'll seep through. 'It's the same with my children and it gets passed down. We've seen the next generation arrive at our shows and that's fantastic.' He added: 'We've got our act together and we're a good band at the moment. 'Raymond, who's from Glasgow, has been our bass player for ten years and my lad is playing piano and guitar and Oscar's son Leon is playing percussion. 'Simon has calmed down too. I spent a week at my home in Devon before this tour and we got together with the band for a couple of days. 'And it comes together really quickly because we're so old now.' The focus now turns to Queens Park later this month as the group continue their love affair here. Although sunshine can't be guaranteed, Steve reckons the future is bright as they get to play the sort of outdoor gig they love most. He said: 'We played Kelvingrove Bandstand last year and that was one of best nights we've had in Glasgow. It was like being in a miniature Hollywood Bowl. 'I love outdoor gigs. Maybe that's because I'm coming off the back of tour indoors. 'But music flows differently playing outdoor gigs. It makes for a different vibration. 'It's just a nice atmosphere, especially when the weather is nice.'

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the Irish musician shared: "They're both funny. I'm still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he's kind of shocked by how great the band is [sounding at rehearsals]. I think we're going to have a good summer." ‌ The 65-year-old continued, "I love them. And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten into indie music - they just blew it out. There was the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamorising it." Zane also disclosed his plans to see the iconic group live, stating: "Of course! Those big guitars, that big Neil Young sounds. "They were against the law in the UK, and they're like, 'No, I have to do what I f****** want. And then they had this kind of rhythmic, beautiful quality. "'Today is gonna be the day...' So that's a kind of, that's an almost RandB rhythm. But Manchester was very influenced by dance music, so they were groovier than anybody. They were rawer than anybody."
