The Real Reason Taylor Sheridan Chose Not To Continue '1923' After Season 2's Shocking Finale

Elle01-08-2025
It's the hit prequel series that left fans wanting more, but Taylor Sheridan chose not to continue 1923 beyond its season two finale because, from the outset, he envisioned the series as a two-chapter prequel to Yellowstone, intended to tell a specific, self-contained story.
In interviews and official statements dating back to 2022, both Sheridan and Paramount+ consistently indicated that season two would be the final chapter. This creative decision was shaped by his desire to chart the Dutton family's history through distinct eras, with 1923 set to bridge the narrative gap between 1883 and the next planned prequel, 1944.
Despite the massive surge in viewership — season two's finale drew 17 million viewers, a 41% increase over season one — Sheridan maintained his plan, stating there was a natural conclusion to the characters' arcs and the time period he wished to explore. Instead of stretching the story or changing the series' direction in response to audience demand or streaming success, Sheridan focussed on weaving the emotional and historical threads set in motion by season one, including the fates of Jack, Elizabeth, Spencer, and Alexandra, to a close.
Paramount+ is now preparing for 1944, the next prequel series, which will continue the Dutton family saga against the backdrop of World War II. While nothing has officially been confirmed yet, the fact that Spencer fought in the first World War before the events of 1923, makes it entirely possible that he's drafted to fight in World War II as well. D-Day also occurs in June 1944, marking a major turning point for the end of the war. 1944 will also focus on the family's ranching history during a time when most able-bodied men were called to serve overseas.
While casting details have yet to be announced, Jon Hamm, Anya Taylor-Joy, Florence Pugh and Paul Mescal are among the names currently being bandied around by fans who are clamouring for the stars to join the franchise.

Dana White says 'everything's good for Joe Rogan' as UFC-Paramount era looms

Joe Rogan was around as UFC color commentator for the Spike TV era, which continued into the FOX era, which continued into the ESPN era, and will continue into the Paramount era. The UFC this week announced a massive seven-year, $7.7. billion U.S. broadcasting rights deal exclusively with Paramount that will bring all 43 annual events to streaming on Paramount+, including select "marquee" events that will simulcast on Paramount's flagship network, CBS. According to UFC CEO Dana White, Rogan isn't going anywhere. "Everything's good for Joe Rogan," White said on "Pardon My Take." "Joe Rogan has no problems in life whatsoever. Joe Rogan was doing great before the deal. He's gonna do just fine after the deal." Rogan, whose "The Joe Rogan Experience" on Spotify has grown into one of the world's most popular podcasts, made his UFC debut in 1997 as a backstage interviewer at UFC 12. Rogan also works as a stand-up comedian. While Rogan's outside-the-UFC endeavors increasingly have kept him from his cageside seat at UFC pay-per-views, White seemingly has no issue with it and is confident that his passion for MMA remains strong. "Joe Rogan isn't here at the UFC because of the money. He did the first 12 events for free," White said. "Joe Rogan has a time problem. That's the only thing Joe Rogan has, is a time problem. If Joe didn't have a time problem, he'd even be doing the Fight Nights. Sh*t, he'd even be doing the Contender Series." In addition to Rogan, White added there are no planned changes to the UFC broadcasting team. "Everything stays the same as far as the team goes," he said.

A 52-Year-Old West Village Restaurant Is Closing

is a born-and-raised New Yorker who is an editor for Eater's Northeast region and Eater New York, was the former Eater Austin editor for 10 years, and often writes about food and pop culture. A longtime West Village restaurant is closing this upcoming weekend: Elephant & Castle will have its last day at 68 Greenwich Avenue, near West 11th Street, on Sunday, August 17. Elephant's regulars have been flooding the restaurant's Instagram announcement post, sharing condolences and memories of the neighborhood restaurant. It had been known for its weekend brunch service with all sorts of eggs Benedicts and omelets, as well as its burgers, sandwiches, and crepes. Schwarz was from Germany — he and his family left the country during World War II, and he eventually made his way to America and worked as a doctor at St. Vincent's hospital. After opening Elephant, he had other restaurants around the city too, such as the also-longtime casual American and Chinese cafe, Noho Star, and cocktail spot Temple Bar (both of which shuttered in 2017). He also reopened and revitalized Keens Steakhouse in the 1970s. He died in 2016. Since then, chef Gary Kuschnereit (who has worked in the kitchen since 1988) and long-time manager Bonnie Jenkins — who was behind Keens when it sold — have been steering the restaurant. It's unclear why the restaurant is closing now and what will happen to the space. Eater has reached out for more information.

Alicia Silverstone doesn't ‘want to mess up' the ‘Clueless' legacy with reboot: ‘We'll do our best'

As if! Alicia Silverstone, 48, said she doesn't want to ruin 'Clueless' with Peacock's upcoming reboot series. The actress told Entertainment Tonight that she 'never thought' of doing a reboot of the 1995 classic, but she thinks this new show will 'honor' the movie. I never thought that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn't wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much.' The movie followed Cher (Silverstone), a popular and wealthy high schooler who wanted to help people around her, but went about it in misguided ways. Advertisement Plot details of the sequel series are under wraps, so it's not clear if it will include other Austen novels and if the new version will follow Cher as an adult or perhaps her teen daughter. 10 Alicia Silverstone visits 'Hits 1' at the SiriusXM Studios on August 7, 2025 in New York City. In 1996, there was a 'Clueless' TV series on ABC, but Rachel Blanchard played Cher instead of Silverstone. Silverstone told ET, 'I can't wait to step back into Cher's skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she's evolved.' The actress, who is famously a vegan, added, 'This is 2025, she's not wearing the new stuff unless it's sustainable or vegan. We'll have to see how far we can go with that.'
