IndyCar's Santino Ferrucci Won't Race In Toronto After Crash In Warmup

Crewmembers from AJ Foyt Racing go over the damage on Santino Ferrucci's No. 14 Chevrolet on July 20 ... More at Toronto's Exhibition Place.
TORONTO – IndyCar Series driver Santino Ferrucci crashed in Sunday Morning Warmup at Toronto's Exhibition Place and damaged his No. 14 Chevrolet so bad, it won't be able to compete in Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy 200.
Ferrucci crashed in Turn 8 with 3 minutes left in the session after setting the third-fastest time in the warmup.
Ferrucci also injured his wrist from the impact and according to AJ Foyt Racing spokesperson Anne Fornoro, it is not fractured, but he wrist is swollen. Ferrucci was checked and released from INDYCAR Medical and was seen in the team's paddock area talking to team president Larry Foyt while holding an ice bag to his wrist.
According to Ferrucci, the Hybrid assist was engaged when he entered the turn and with the Firestone Black primary tire, it carried too much speed into Turn 8.
Ferrucci was on a hot streak entering Sunday's race but will be forced to sit this one out because of the damage to the car and not enough time to repair it.
Ferrucci Car Totaled
AJ Foyt Racing President Larry Foyt revealed Ferrucci was cleared to drive in Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, but the No. 14 Chevrolet was 'totaled' in the crash in Turn 8 that ended Sunday morning warmup.
Ferrucci sustained an injured right wrist but did not suffer a fracture.
The car, however, didn't fare as well.
'His hand took a pretty good hit in the cockpit,' Foyt said. 'The X -rays were negative. He was cleared to drive, but sure, could we get a car out there? Possibly. But I don't want to push him either. I'd rather get focused on Laguna.

'It would have been hard for us to get out there anyway. That car was really heavily damaged. The backup car here obviously and it's a quick turn between this warm -up and the race.
'That car is not repairable for today.'
Ferrucci entered the weekend 10th in the championship, with 237 points. Teammate David Malukas also has 237 points, but Ferrucci gets the position based on tiebreaker.
'It is a bummer because fighting for a top 10 in the championship, this is a pretty big blow, but we just, we feel like the last four races are still really strong for us and for him,' Foyt said. 'We are not going to give up on trying to get back in the top 10.
'This is racing, and things happen and it's, it's part of it. It's fortunate. It's a hard part. I don't know why Toronto seems like doesn't like the 14 car. Two years in a row
we've had a big one here, but just unfortunate. It happens. I know he feels bad. The team feels bad but we'll, we'll be back next week.'
Next weekend's race is in Monterey, California and Foyt believed it was better to properly prepare the backup car for that race instead of a rush job in a limited period of time to compete at Toronto.
'It's probably easier to say what isn't damaged,' Foyt said of the car. 'It got into the crash structure of the tub, which is a lengthy thing, so you'd be going to a backup car no matter what at that point. And there's still, diagnosing the engine and all those things.
'There were still a lot of things that that had to happen if we were going to try to get out to push out, which is in an hour. So, it's a tough decision because we all come here to race.
'I think for the team, for our situation right now, just getting ready, we have a quick turn to go to Laguna, and we need to do well there. So let Santino rest up, let the guys take their time, get the backup car prepared and go there.'
To complicate matters, IndyCar is currently in race No. 4 of a five races in four weekend stretch that began on July 6 at Mid-Ohio, continued with a doubleheader last weekend at Iowa Speedway, moved to Toronto and concludes in California next week.
Foyt admitted that was another factor in waiting to put Ferrucci back in another car on Sunday.
'Especially a big one like that where it's pretty much totaled that's a tough one to rebound from given the quick turnaround,' Foyt said.

How could the Harper-Manfred spat impact MLB's CBA talks?

Yahoo Sports senior MLB analysts Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman explain why the battle between the players union and the league - which reportedly came to a head in the Phillies star and commissioner's recent clubhouse meeting - may only get more contentious before a new deal is reached. Hear the full conversation on the 'Baseball Bar-B-Cast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript How important is this story? Like, what type of impact does it have? Let's start with the cap as a character, because the cap is going to be the most important discussion point in the upcoming CBA negotiations, almost certainly. I think that it is important to understand the historical context here where players are just not gonna go for a cap. The league has been trying to get one for years. It is the only league that does not have one. It is going to be a central character here. That sets up the dynamic of how these negotiations are going to go. In the last round, the union was on offense and the league was on defense. And in this round, I think those roles are gonna switch a little bit, where the league wants to create change in the system, and the players are more content. With the status quo, then the league is. Now, obviously, the two sides are both trying to pull the situation, the CBA in their general respective directions, but I think that that is just a fair way to classify how this relationship is going to be. For the league to be like, we need to energize the workforce is, is like both fascin. and almost backwards, right? Because in theory, so much about this is the union sticking together and the union being on the same page. And so it is one hell of a tactic to be like, no, no, no, we're just going to jump over the union and try and convince them that they want what we want. Now, Manfred can say this is not my intention, all he wants. The outcome is to foster a level of discord and disagreement within the union about the cap. In theory, where the league can make headway is by convincing the lower salaried rank and file players that a salary cap and a floor would be good for them because they would then make more money. But like, that's what the union is fighting against, is keeping everyone on the same page, everyone together, advocating and arguing for the same things. The general energy. Right now is no bueno, like, it's ugly and it's going to get uglier. Do we lose games? Ask me in a year and a half. Ask me on March 15, 2027. Close

As Trump Says He Wants Tesla to ‘THRIVE,' How Should You Play TSLA Stock?

The on-again, off-again relationship between President Donald Trump and Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk witnessed a new plot twist when Trump posted on Truth Social that 'I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE.' This is a startling development, to say the least, considering the very public nature of their fallout, which was sour for all involved. Musk had been quite vocal about his opposition to Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act,' arguing it would only add to the country's mounting debt. And specifically hurting Tesla is the removal of $7,500 tax credits on EV purchases, a stipulation of the tax-and-spending legislation. So, amid all the noise around Tesla, is the company's stock (-21.7% YTD) still one that warrants an investment? Let's find out. Q2 Was Somewhat Pleasant Revenues for the quarter came in at $22.5 billion, down 12% from the previous year. Core automotive revenues again slipped on a YOY basis, this time by 16% to come in at $16.7 billion, as competitive pressure and Musk's political activities continued to put pressure on sales. The energy segment witnessed a less sharp fall of 7% in the same period to $2.8 billion. The gross margin remained almost flat at 17.2% compared to the previous year's 18%, which provided some comfort. Total production was at 410,244 vehicles (vs. 410,831 in the year-ago period) while total deliveries fell by 13% in the same period to 384,122 vehicles, against expectations of 387,000, per FactSet. Meanwhile, Tesla reported EPS of $0.40, which represented a yearly decline of 23%. Tesla continued to remain cash flow positive, although its cash flow declined alongside revenue and earnings. Net cash from operating activities for the quarter was at $2.5 billion (-30% YOY), and free cash flow was at $146 million (-89% YOY). Overall, the company closed the quarter with a cash balance of $36.8 billion, up 20% from the previous year. This was much above its short-term debt levels of $15.2 billion. Yet, what remains a cause of worry for Tesla investors is Musk's recent remarks during the latest earnings call. Downbeat Comments Cloud Long-Term Growth? My thoughts on Tesla have been consistently cautiously optimistic, with the company's long-term prospects sounding quite convincing, driven by artificial intelligence, Full-Self Driving (FSD), robotics, and energy, among others. However, Musk's revelation that the EV leader will likely face 'a few rough quarters' is concerning. Yet, what is even more worrying is his acknowledgement that the company's outsized bets on humanoid robots is still a long way from contributing to the company's bottom line. This draws a question mark over other businesses as well, hurting its overall value, considering that most of the bullishness around Tesla is primarily due to the expectations that its operations in the above-mentioned businesses will create massive wealth for shareholders in the long run. Specifically on robotics, Tesla has publicly shared a detailed time horizon for its robotics ambitions, with the Optimus 3 prototype slated to be ready by late 2025. Production ramp‑up is expected to begin in early 2026, targeting monthly volumes of 100,000 units within five years, scaling to one million annually by 2030, and eventually aspiring toward a long‑term goal of 1 billion robots per year. That said, Tesla's track record of meeting Musk's ambitious timelines has been inconsistent. A prominent example dates back to his 2019 assertion that 1 million robotaxis would be operational by 2020. Reality diverged substantially. Robotaxis just launched in Austin in a limited pilot in June 2025. However, the opportunity remains as scaling beyond a company-owned fleet is essential to unlock true network effects for the robotaxi business. With millions of Teslas already on the road, the company could enable private owners to contribute vehicles to the robotaxi platform, a monetization opportunity few other automakers can match. Meanwhile, Tesla's in‑house AI training infrastructure is also evolving rapidly. The Dojo 2 supercomputer, expected in 2026, is projected to deliver computing power equivalent to roughly 100 000 H100 GPUs. Built for vision-centric workloads essential to autonomy and robotics, it supports large‑scale real‑world simulation. Tesla is already working toward hardware convergence across edge and cloud, from Dojo servers to on‑device chips, with next‑generation AI6 and Dojo 3 already in early planning stages. Overall, this combination of proprietary data, in‑house chip design, scalable compute infrastructure, and integrated deployment gives Tesla full control over the AI stack. It enables scaling from fleet data to trained models to real-world applications, a vertically integrated strategy that few companies can replicate. Analyst Opinions on TSLA Stock Taking all of this into account, analysts have deemed the TSLA stock a 'Hold,' with a mean target price of $299.94, which has already been surpassed. However, the high target price of $500 denotes upside potential of about 56% from current levels. Out of 41 analysts covering the stock, 12 have a 'Strong Buy' rating, two have a 'Moderate Buy' rating, 17 have a 'Hold' rating, and 10 have a 'Strong Sell' rating.
