IndyCar's Santino Ferrucci Won't Race In Toronto After Crash In Warmup
TORONTO – IndyCar Series driver Santino Ferrucci crashed in Sunday Morning Warmup at Toronto's Exhibition Place and damaged his No. 14 Chevrolet so bad, it won't be able to compete in Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy 200.
Ferrucci crashed in Turn 8 with 3 minutes left in the session after setting the third-fastest time in the warmup.
Ferrucci also injured his wrist from the impact and according to AJ Foyt Racing spokesperson Anne Fornoro, it is not fractured, but he wrist is swollen. Ferrucci was checked and released from INDYCAR Medical and was seen in the team's paddock area talking to team president Larry Foyt while holding an ice bag to his wrist.
According to Ferrucci, the Hybrid assist was engaged when he entered the turn and with the Firestone Black primary tire, it carried too much speed into Turn 8.
Ferrucci was on a hot streak entering Sunday's race but will be forced to sit this one out because of the damage to the car and not enough time to repair it.
Ferrucci Car Totaled
AJ Foyt Racing President Larry Foyt revealed Ferrucci was cleared to drive in Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, but the No. 14 Chevrolet was 'totaled' in the crash in Turn 8 that ended Sunday morning warmup.
Ferrucci sustained an injured right wrist but did not suffer a fracture.
The car, however, didn't fare as well.
'His hand took a pretty good hit in the cockpit,' Foyt said. 'The X -rays were negative. He was cleared to drive, but sure, could we get a car out there? Possibly. But I don't want to push him either. I'd rather get focused on Laguna.

'It would have been hard for us to get out there anyway. That car was really heavily damaged. The backup car here obviously and it's a quick turn between this warm -up and the race.
'That car is not repairable for today.'
Ferrucci entered the weekend 10th in the championship, with 237 points. Teammate David Malukas also has 237 points, but Ferrucci gets the position based on tiebreaker.
'It is a bummer because fighting for a top 10 in the championship, this is a pretty big blow, but we just, we feel like the last four races are still really strong for us and for him,' Foyt said. 'We are not going to give up on trying to get back in the top 10.
'This is racing, and things happen and it's, it's part of it. It's fortunate. It's a hard part. I don't know why Toronto seems like doesn't like the 14 car. Two years in a row
we've had a big one here, but just unfortunate. It happens. I know he feels bad. The team feels bad but we'll, we'll be back next week.'
Next weekend's race is in Monterey, California and Foyt believed it was better to properly prepare the backup car for that race instead of a rush job in a limited period of time to compete at Toronto.
'It's probably easier to say what isn't damaged,' Foyt said of the car. 'It got into the crash structure of the tub, which is a lengthy thing, so you'd be going to a backup car no matter what at that point. And there's still, diagnosing the engine and all those things.
'There were still a lot of things that that had to happen if we were going to try to get out to push out, which is in an hour. So, it's a tough decision because we all come here to race.
'I think for the team, for our situation right now, just getting ready, we have a quick turn to go to Laguna, and we need to do well there. So let Santino rest up, let the guys take their time, get the backup car prepared and go there.'
To complicate matters, IndyCar is currently in race No. 4 of a five races in four weekend stretch that began on July 6 at Mid-Ohio, continued with a doubleheader last weekend at Iowa Speedway, moved to Toronto and concludes in California next week.
Foyt admitted that was another factor in waiting to put Ferrucci back in another car on Sunday.
'Especially a big one like that where it's pretty much totaled that's a tough one to rebound from given the quick turnaround,' Foyt said.

Rogers looks for cost savings in sports portfolio after becoming MLSE majority owner
TORONTO - Rogers Communications Inc. hopes to find 'revenue and cost synergies' in its expanded portfolio of sports assets after becoming the majority owner of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. The Toronto-based telecom company believes its stock price undervalues its media and sports holdings and says it is 'pursuing all options ... to monetize and surface the very substantial unrecognized market value' of those assets. Earlier this month, Rogers completed its $4.7-billion deal with rival BCE Inc. to buy its 37.5 per cent stake in MLSE. The acquisition, which closed July 1 after receiving the necessary regulatory and league approvals, made Rogers the majority owner of the sports conglomerate that owns the NHL's Maple Leafs, NBA's Raptors, CFL's Argonauts, MLS' Toronto FC and AHL's Marlies. Rogers also owns MLB's Toronto Blue Jays. 'On sports and media, it's clear that there is significant underlying value and we are squarely focused as we put the assets together ... to continue to strengthen our balance sheet,' said Rogers president and CEO Tony Staffieri on a conference call Wednesday, as the company reported its latest earnings. 'The second part of our task is to surface the value for shareholders. We continue to work through the various options and the good news is we have very good options in front of us.' Staffieri said it was premature to provide further insight about possible 'synergies' within MLSE, but that Rogers would likely share details of its plans before the end of 2026. He said Rogers has 'a very good track record' in finding ways to operate more efficiently, pointing to its 2023 merger with Shaw Communications Inc. 'We went into this transaction with a view that we could execute on very strong synergies across our sports and media properties and certain things that need to happen before we can execute on those,' he said. 'But the thinking, the planning is underway and at the right time ... we can be more specific.' Some industry watchers have speculated about the potential for Rogers to eventually fold the Blue Jays and related stadium assets into MLSE — an option floated by one analyst on the conference call who questioned if that's where Rogers might stand to eliminate 'redundant costs' within its sports portfolio. 'I expect that as we roll in the Toronto Blue Jays' Rogers Centre with Scotiabank Arena and the other venues within MLSE and the sports teams within MLSE, we will find revenue and cost synergies,' chief financial officer Glenn Brandt replied. Meanwhile, the company updated its financial guidance on Wednesday to reflect the MLSE deal. Rogers now expects service revenue to increase three to five per cent year-over-year in 2025, up from its previous forecast of zero to three per cent growth, as a result of the anticipated contribution from MLSE. Rogers reported its second-quarter profit declined compared with a year ago as a result of higher restructuring, acquisition and other costs. The company said it earned $148 million or 29 cents per diluted share attributable to shareholders for the quarter ended June 30. The result was down from a profit of $394 million or 73 cents per share in the same quarter last year. Restructuring, acquisition and other costs totalled $238 million in the quarter, up from $90 million a year ago. Revenue for the three-month period totalled $5.22 billion, up from $5.09 billion a year earlier. Wireless service revenue was up one per cent from a year ago as its subscriber base grew, while wireless equipment revenue increased 13 per cent, primarily as a result of higher device sales to existing customers. Media revenue rose 10 per cent, boosted by strong NHL playoff audiences on Sportsnet and the launch of the Warner Bros. Discovery suite of television channels. Cable revenue was up one per cent. On an adjusted basis, Rogers earned $1.14 per diluted share, down from $1.16 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2024. The results came as the company reported 61,000 total mobile phone net subscriber additions, including 35,000 postpaid — down from 112,000 postpaid additions in the same quarter last year. Rogers' monthly churn for net postpaid mobile subscribers — a measure of those who cancelled their service — was 1.00 per cent, down from 1.07 per cent during its previous second quarter. Scotiabank analyst Maher Yaghi said the results were 'broadly in line with expectations.' 'Wireless subscriber loading was relatively healthy given continued Canadian market normalization as a result of lower population growth,' he said in a note. 'While financial results do clearly show the impact from significant pricing pressures, we believe recent price ups which we saw since early June provide a more positive backdrop for the industry.' The company recorded 26,000 prepaid net additions in the quarter, compared with 50,000 prepaid subscriber additions in the second quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, Rogers' mobile phone average monthly revenue per user was $55.45, down from $57.24 in the second quarter of the prior year. Retail internet net additions totalled 26,000. Former Canadiens First-Round Pick Announces Retirement
Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu has retired from professional hockey, as announced by the NHLPA. Beaulieu, 32, was selected by the Canadiens with the 17th overall pick of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. From there, he played his first five NHL seasons with the Canadiens from 2012-13 to 2016-17, posting seven goals, 53 assists, 60 points, 152 penalty minutes, and a plus-19 rating in 225 games. Beaulieu's time with the Canadiens ended during the 2017 NHL off-season, as he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2017 third-round pick. From there, he had stints with the Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, and Anaheim Ducks. In 471 career NHL games over 11 seasons, he had 12 goals, 86 assists, 98 points, and a minus-14 rating. Malik Nabers is 'ready to go' for Giants training camp: Daboll
Finally, some good news for the New York Giants. Wide receiver Malik Nabers has been cleared to practice at training camp and is expected to be a full participant, according to head coach Brian Daboll. Nabers had missed all of the Giants' spring practices at OTAs and mandatory minicamp while rehabbing a lingering toe injury. The toe issue first arose in college, according to Daboll, but Nabers re-aggravated it last season. The Giants have been particularly cautious with their 2024 first-round pick since then. Daboll has said multiple times this offseason – throughout OTAs and minicamp – that there wasn't any concern that Nabers would miss training camp practices, let alone the start of the season. With Wednesday's announcement making it official, Giants fans can seemingly let out a sigh of relief. Nabers was one of the lone bright spots for the 3-14 Giants as a rookie last year. His 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns all led the team and were impressive feats amid a chaotic situation at quarterback – Big Blue sent out four different starters under center – that unfolded throughout the season. The 109 catches Nabers tallied were more than any other wide receiver in 2024, and his yardage total was the second-most of all rookie pass-catchers (tight ends included). Not only that, but Nabers' 1,204 yards made him the first Giants player to surpass 800 receiving yards in a season since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018. Now that he's officially been declared healthy and a full go for training camp, Nabers will be the clear No. 1 target for starting quarterback Russell Wilson in New York this year.
