This ‘Ode To Bag End' Pen Is The Perfect Father's Day Gift For 'Lord Of The Rings' Dads

Forbes12-06-2025

The Ode To Bag End pen
I have written about many wonderful Lord Of The Rings collector's items over the years, from calendars to special editions of the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, to swords based on Sting and Anduril, but none of these items is quite as lovely or elegant as the 'Ode To Bag End' pen from Italian penmaker, Montegrappa.
The company, which was founded in 1912, crafts some of the finest luxury pens out there, with themes ranging from Kitcho Noh Masks to James Bond. Of course, as a huge Lord Of The Rings fan, the Ode To Bag End pen is my personal favorite. The pen is designed with The Shire in mind, reflecting the cozy trappings of Hobbiton and its diminutive inhabitants.
The top of the pen's cap hand-painted cap emulates the entrance to Bag End. It's a whimsical but satisfyingly sturdy design. This is a pen that is both weighty and lighthearted – fitting for the home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, whose life of bonhomie and good cheer was disrupted by adventure and dragons and ring wraiths and war.
Ode To Bag End
The fountain pen includes a 14K Gold nib. Yellow gold, rose gold and ruthenium give the brass an extra glimmer (some things that glitter are gold, after all). The barrel overlay combines plain and oak-grain resin that gives the pen an almost architectural feel. You can imagine peering through the windows, watching Bilbo and Gandalf talk about magical Rings and Dark Lords and other dire tidings. And what better way to celebrate Tolkien and his countless scribbles and notes than with the very instrument of his craft?

Of course, this is a very limited edition pen, with only 999 hand-crafted units available in its three iterations: Fountain Pen, Rollerball and Ballpoint. The Fountain Pen is 142mm in length with an 18mm diameter. It's about the same length as an average pen, but much thicker, especially at the cap. It writes beautifully – if only my handwriting were as pretty. Then again, with a pen like this, maybe it's finally worth practicing my penmanship. One pen to rule them all, as it were.
You can find the Ode To Bag End fountain pen on Montegrappa's website and various online retailers.

Emporio Armani Men's Spring 2026: All Aboard the Marrakesh Express

Out of an abundance of caution, Giorgio Armani's PR team pre-empted shock and wanton speculation and indicated Friday that the designer was recovering at home from an ailment and would not take the bow at his Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani shows during men's fashion week in Milan. Leo Dell'Orco, head of menswear design, did the honors Saturday night, wearing a navy T-shirt and pants, just like the maestro. 'Mr. Armani has worked with his usual dedication on the collections that will be presented. Although he cannot be there in person, he will closely follow every phase of the shows,' the company assured. The designer opened his display with a blink-and-you-missed-it parade of EA7 Emporio Armani performance wear that gave off 'Dune' vibes with its vaguely futuristic/dystopian layers, and a soundtrack of howling winds. And then suddenly we were thrust into the bustling markets of Marrakesh, this one peopled with handsome men whisking by in wide-legged trousers, fringed suede bombers, scarf-like tops and boxy, flowing suits in printed pajama silks. In a Milan season when most designers are playing it safe, Armani stuck out his neck with lustrous, gold-flecked fabrics, mosaic prints, dense embroideries, tassels, passementerie trim, feathers and beading. The collection could be costume-y at times, and there was precious little one could wear to the office, but it delivered a jolt of wanderlust. Not so long ago, designers avoided referencing faraway places, fearing accusations of cultural appropriation – and many still do. Armani titled his collection 'Origins,' and said it 'returned to a founding principle of his aesthetic: a genuine interest in other cultures.' We are all richer for it. Get well soon, Mr. Armani! Mordecai Spring 2026 Menswear Collection

Ludovico Bruno's passion for martial arts punches through in his work. His powerful physique speaks to relentless hours in the gym—and also explains why his line, Mordecai, leans into extra-large, roomy proportions. 'I basically design garments I can wear myself,' he said during a preview of his spring collection, which fittingly took place in a gym typically used for fencing practice. The casting was about real athletes from wrestling and karate schools, performing live judo moves throughout the presentation, blurring the line between runway and dojo with gentle intensity. Judokas' stances often resemble an embrace—carnal, yes, but also deeply respectful, even in the heat of competition. This idea of the embrace took on new emotional weight after Bruno came across an image of two brothers reuniting after being separated by war. It was both visceral and tender, and that intimacy sparked a shift in the collection: silhouettes were pulled tighter to the body, volumes pared back to let the form speak. Yet they also let it breathe through light, airy fabrics for ease of movement and velocity. Bruno honed his craft at Moncler, and his deep knowledge of sophisticated technical sportswear construction shines through in his outerwear: elaborate simplicity meets utilitarian function with a visionary edge. His piuminos hugged the torso, padded almost anatomically to mimic the contours of chiseled six-pack abs (no crunches required), layered over billowing parachute harem pants cinched at the ankles. Souvenirs from his travels were woven throughout, and came in the form of vibrant Suzani-printed trousers disrupting a palette of cool neutrals, and voluminous yarn-dyed black-and-white striped dusters evoking the texture and geometry of Atlas carpets. 'Martial arts are as much about ritual as they are about discipline,' said Bruno, who approaches his fitness routine with near-religious devotion. At Mordecai, even a sharply tailored blazer nods to the silhouette of a Japanese kimono, and channels the elegant utility of a judo uniform.
