This ‘Ode To Bag End' Pen Is The Perfect Father's Day Gift For 'Lord Of The Rings' Dads

The Ode To Bag End pen I have written about many wonderful Lord Of The Rings collector's items over the years, from calendars to special editions of the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, to swords based on Sting and Anduril, but none of these items is quite as lovely or elegant as the 'Ode To Bag End' pen from Italian penmaker, Montegrappa. The company, which was founded in 1912, crafts some of the finest luxury pens out there, with themes ranging from Kitcho Noh Masks to James Bond. Of course, as a huge Lord Of The Rings fan, the Ode To Bag End pen is my personal favorite. The pen is designed with The Shire in mind, reflecting the cozy trappings of Hobbiton and its diminutive inhabitants. The top of the pen's cap hand-painted cap emulates the entrance to Bag End. It's a whimsical but satisfyingly sturdy design. This is a pen that is both weighty and lighthearted – fitting for the home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, whose life of bonhomie and good cheer was disrupted by adventure and dragons and ring wraiths and war. Ode To Bag End The fountain pen includes a 14K Gold nib. Yellow gold, rose gold and ruthenium give the brass an extra glimmer (some things that glitter are gold, after all). The barrel overlay combines plain and oak-grain resin that gives the pen an almost architectural feel. You can imagine peering through the windows, watching Bilbo and Gandalf talk about magical Rings and Dark Lords and other dire tidings. And what better way to celebrate Tolkien and his countless scribbles and notes than with the very instrument of his craft? FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Of course, this is a very limited edition pen, with only 999 hand-crafted units available in its three iterations: Fountain Pen, Rollerball and Ballpoint. The Fountain Pen is 142mm in length with an 18mm diameter. It's about the same length as an average pen, but much thicker, especially at the cap. It writes beautifully – if only my handwriting were as pretty. Then again, with a pen like this, maybe it's finally worth practicing my penmanship. One pen to rule them all, as it were. You can find the Ode To Bag End fountain pen on Montegrappa's website and various online retailers.

Boy, 10, on an adventure from 'The Shire to Mordor'

"One does not simply walk into Mordor" is a phrase from the Lord of the Rings franchise being promptly ignored by a boy aiming to recreate Frodo Baggins's epic journey from The Shire. Wilf, 10, has asthma and is aiming to complete 1,779 miles (2,863km) - the same distance covered by the hobbit - before he begins secondary school in quest will not include meetings with orcs, elves or even Gollum, but will support the charity Asthma and Lung a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, said: "I wanted to show people with asthma that they can still do physical activity." Wilf, of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, started the challenge in September and is doing many walks to make up the total number of set a target of £220, as £22 allows one of the charity's nurses to answer a call on the helpline, and Wilf aimed to help 10 people, but has so far raised £ - who is autistic and has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - goes for strolls after school, and goes for walks at the weekend with his family. He said he had been "enjoying the walking a lot". "I mainly do two miles or so, and some bigger walks like five-mile walks," he added. His mother Kate said: "It is really important for young people with asthma to get exercise but often it is something that creates anxiety. "Exercise is one of Wilf's triggers for his asthma - although it improves his asthma, it does make him nervous - so it is a big deal for him to decide to do a walk like this."The 42-year-old added: "I am just so proud of him - he has it in his nature to help other people. "His determination to do it is really impressive."
