OIA reviews investment projects before the State Council
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, the council members, the secretary-general of the State Council, the OIA's two vice-chairmen for operations and investment, and a number of the council's employees and specialists from the OIA.
At the meeting outset, the state council chairman welcomed the chairman of the OIA, pointing to the importance of such meetings in strengthening cooperation between government institutions on one side and the State Council on the other side. These meetings, he said, aim to shed light on the programmes and initiatives implemented by various state institutions as well as the goals they are working to achieve and the challenges they face.
The presentation highlighted the most prominent features of the OIA's performance in 2024, its investment portfolios, the geographical distribution of assets, the Generations Portfolio and its developments for 2024 and foreign investment objectives.
It also addressed the features of the National Development Portfolio and its developments for 2024, the OIA's procedures, and examples of the programmes and initiatives it has implemented to improve the performance of its subsidiaries. The chairman of the OIA shed light on the Rawabet Programme, the OIA's corporate governance system and the Oman Future Fund.
The chairman of the State Council emphasised that the meeting with the chairman of the OIA and its representatives, and their presentations to council members, provided an opportunity to review the strategies, plans and projects being implemented by the OIA and to closely examine the achievements and challenges it faces. This, in turn, enhances the role of the State Council. It also reflects the OIA's commitment to the principle of good governance.

Ibri – Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MHUP) has announced four new investment opportunities for usufruct land in Dhahirah governorate, covering a total of 16 hectares for plant and animal projects. According to the ministry, the projects aim to strengthen the agricultural sector and attract investors to ventures that support Oman Vision 2040's economic diversification goals. Sites were selected based on soil quality, water availability, and market demand to ensure long-term viability. Details of the opportunities and usufruct terms are available on the Tatweer platform, with applications open to local and foreign investors. Preference will be given to proposals that adopt modern irrigation systems, sustainable farming practices, and value-added production to improve competitiveness in local and export markets. The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources, in cooperation with MHUP and the private sector, is working to allocate land and develop investment plans to enhance food security and sustainable agricultural growth. Dhahirah has been identified as a promising hub for agricultural expansion due to its fertile land, favourable climate for fruit cultivation, and proximity to regional markets. Officials believe the projects will attract both commercial and small-scale investors.

Oman Film Society trains young filmmakers in AI-driven storytelling
Muscat – Oman Film Society has concluded a nine-day specialised workshop held in collaboration with Youth Centre aimed at equipping Omani youth with advanced skills in using artificial intelligence in filmmaking. Titled 'Experimenting with AI Filmmaking Skills', the workshop ran from July 20 to August 14 in three governorates – Muscat, North Sharqiyah and North Batinah – enabling aspiring filmmakers nationwide to participate. Over 75 young men and women took part in the sessions led by filmmaker and trainer Abdulaziz al Abri. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abri said the training covered scriptwriting, visual composition, and the use of AI tools to generate and enhance cinematic content. Participants completed five practical projects, applying their skills to real-world scenarios. 'This workshop across three governorates was a platform to unleash the energies of talented and ambitious young people. The results achieved in just nine days are a source of pride and optimism,' he said. Abri noted that many participants adapted quickly to AI tools, producing work that demonstrated both creativity and technical proficiency. 'Integrating AI into filmmaking is no longer a luxury but an essential step to remain competitive in the global film industry,' he added. Oman Film Society stated that the initiative supports Oman Vision 2040's focus on innovation, youth empowerment and creative industries as drivers of economic diversification. The society plans to expand AI-based training, with future modules in animation, virtual production and digital editing. Industry observers believe such exposure will boost local content production and position Oman as a regional hub for innovative storytelling in the Gulf.

Salalah seminar explores future of sustainable energy and smart facilities
SALALAH: The Dhofar branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with Global Chemical Systems and Maintenance Limited, hosted an economic seminar in Salalah on 'The Future of Sustainable Energy and Facilities Management.' The event brought together decision-makers, innovators and specialists to examine transformative trends and solutions in the energy sector and smart facilities management. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the seminar featured speeches from sector leaders. Ghazi bin Saeed al Hamar, Director of OCCI's Dhofar branch, stressed that renewable energy and smart facilities management are now key pillars for energy security and resource sustainability. He described the seminar as a platform for exchanging best practices, addressing challenges and formulating practical recommendations. Engineer Shawqi bin Noor Mohammed al Balushi, Advisor to Global Chemical Systems and Maintenance Limited, highlighted the crucial role of sustainable energy in developing a strong, balanced and cost-efficient economy, noting its alignment with the green transition goals of Oman Vision 2040. The programme covered five key themes: renewable energy transition, smart facility management, innovation in infrastructure, enabling policies and legislation, and future challenges and opportunities in sustainable energy.
