Joshua Jackson seeks emergency custody order modification against ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith over daughter's schooling

Time of India3 days ago

The custody clash between
Joshua Jackson
and his ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith over their daughter Juno has taken a messy turn. The actor has filed an emergency court motion, claiming that Turner-Smith made a major parenting decision without his consent.
School switch sparks dispute
On Friday, 30 June, the 'Dawson's Creek' star submitted a legal request to modify the custody order he shares with Turner-Smith. As reported by Us Weekly, according to court documents, Jackson alleged that Turner-Smith moved their five-year-old daughter Juno to a different school without consulting him.
Jackson, 46, stated in the documents that Turner-Smith believes it is 'no big deal to force Juno to start over with a new school.'
He also raised concerns that 'Jodie is attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school.'
Seeking stability for Juno
In response, Jackson is asking the court to keep Juno enrolled at her current school for the next year. He's also requesting that both parents must approve any future changes to her schooling together, ensuring decisions are made jointly.
This legal move comes not long after Jackson and Turner-Smith finalised their divorce.
The pair, who welcomed Juno in April 2020, had previously agreed to share joint legal and physical custody.
Divorce finalised but tensions remain
Their divorce settlement was signed on 3 May. As reported by Us Weekly, neither party will receive spousal support. Interestingly, the couple listed different dates for their separation – Turner-Smith said they split on 13 September 2023, while Jackson marked it as 30 September 2023.
The split was officially confirmed in October 2023, when Turner-Smith filed for divorce after over four years of marriage, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the cause.
Both focused on being good parents
Despite the recent legal tensions, both Jackson and Jodie have been vocal about putting their daughter first. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in November 2024, she said, 'It's just about center the children and that's all you can do.
Nobody gets everything right but at least when you know you're focused on the right thing, you know you're gonna do your best.'
Jackson echoed a similar sentiment during an April episode of the podcast Dinner's On Me. 'If I ever did anything to estrange my daughter from myself, I would be in duress,' he shared. 'I actually can't conceive of it because I don't even wanna think of the pain that that would be.'
He continued, 'Regardless of how messy the divorce is, beautiful the divorce is, easy [or] hard the co-parenting is … I think this generation of dads is understanding, like, 'I need to be here. It's gonna be hard, but this is important, and I've got to do this.' It's my job — shared with my ex-wife — to do everything that we can to nurture you, cultivate you and give you all the tools that you need in life.'

Blake Lively Calls Out Justin Baldoni for 'Abandoning' Female Advocacy: 'Women Should Not Have Their Voices Heard...'

Blake Lively has accused her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni of contradicting his long-standing public advocacy for women. The actress's team issued a strong statement on June 5, saying Baldoni's defamation lawsuit against her undermines the values he once promoted through platforms like his TED Talks, podcasts, and interviews. During the film's promotional campaign, Baldoni partnered with NO MORE, an organization focused on ending domestic violence and sexual assault, as per US Weekly. At the time, he said, 'It's easy to ask, especially as men, 'Why do women stay?' But the real question we need to ask is, 'Why do men harm?'' He called the story of It Ends With Us difficult but important and expressed gratitude for the partnership with @nomoreorg. However, Blake Lively now claims Justin Baldoni's legal actions contradict his public statements. 'Rather than defend his case on the facts, Baldoni is now contradicting years of his own public persona,' her spokesperson said. They added that he is abandoning the message of his #MeToo YouTube's, podcasts, TED Talks, and interviews, where he once upon a time urged men 'to listen to the women in your life…to hold their anguish and actually believe them, even if what they're saying is against you.' Here are the 19 women's advocacy groups backing Blake Lively in legal battle Lively's team revealed that 19 women's rights and survivors' organizations have signed onto four separate amicus briefs in support of her. The groups include Sanctuary for Families, National Organization for Women, Women's Justice NOW, Equal Rights Advocates, and Child USA. 'These organizations are united in opposing Justin Baldoni's attempt to dismantle a law designed to protect women who speak up, simply to protect himself,' Lively's team said in the statement. 'They are sounding the alarm about his DARVO tactics and the chilling effect they could have beyond this case.' DARVO, short for Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender, is a tactic where perpetrators deny accusations, attack the victim's credibility, and portray themselves as victims. The briefs argue that Baldoni's lawsuit reflects these tactics and could discourage others from coming forward. In response, Baldoni's legal team has reportedly challenged the inclusion of the amicus briefs, stating the organizations should not have their voices heard. According to the briefs, the lawsuit against Lively is the prototypical suit that California's AB 933 law was meant to prevent. One excerpt from Child USA stated that such lawsuits allow perpetrators to weaponize the judicial system to discredit survivor accounts. The latest updates come just days after Judge Lewis Liman ruled on June 2 that Lively's emotional distress claims would not move forward after her legal team withdrew them. The judge also rejected Baldoni's request for her private therapy and medical records, stating they were no longer relevant. Despite the dismissal of some claims, the case continues to receive support from prominent advocacy groups. Lively's spokesperson said that these briefs add the voices of renowned nonprofits, victim advocates, and experts dedicated to safeguarding the rights of people who speak up.

Modern Family actor Rico Rodriguez shares how onscreen mom Sofía Vergara ‘played' him: ‘I was literally Manny'

Actor Rico Rodriguez, who portrayed Manny Delgado on Modern Family for all 11 seasons, recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes story about his longtime costar Sofía Vergara, who played his onscreen mother, Gloria. Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast Dinner's On Me, Rico revealed how he ended up helping Sofía with her script markings—and how he got cleverly 'played' in the process. Rico recalled that he often arrived on set already knowing everyone's lines, including Sofia's, which came in handy since Sofía sometimes 'goes off the rails' with her improvisation. 'She would go off the rails and then she would go, 'Rico, what's my line?'' he said, explaining how he would help her get back on track. He also noted she would ask him about their next call time, showing how much she relied on him. A post shared by Jesse Tyler Ferguson (@jessetyler) The real twist came when Sofía was late to a table read. 'Being the nice person that I am, Sofía was late … I was like, 'I know how she marks her lines on her script … you know what, let me be nice and let me mark her script for her,'' Rico recounted. Sofia was grateful, even pinching his cheeks in thanks. But the following week, when Sofía was on time, Rico sat down to mark his own script—and was surprised when she said, 'Rico, you didn't mark my script.' He replied, 'What? I didn't know I was supposed to. I did it one time 'cause I was nice!' At that moment, Sofia handed over her script, and everyone's eyes were on Rodriguez as he helped her again. 'I was literally Manny at that point helping out Sofía,' he laughed. Despite the playful trick, Rico said he loved working with Sofía and didn't mind helping. On the same podcast, Rico also spoke about the support he received from Ed O'Neill, who played family patriarch Jay Pritchett. Early in the series, Rico remembered struggling with a line and feeling frustrated. 'I was like overthinking everything … I'm like, 'oh, I'm the reason why we're not doing good.' And I'm like on the verge of crying…' Ed stepped in to help. 'He was like, 'Alright, stop, cut the cameras. Go sit down.' He brought me to the side and said, 'Here's what you're having trouble with. Repeat after me. Try it like this,'' Rico recalled. They worked on it until Ed gave him a reassuring wink and said, 'I got you, don't worry.'

Robert De Niro divulges biggest parenting tip that he lives by

Los Angeles: Hollywood legend Robert De Niro has said that he will always "support" his children. He won't let it come in the way of his disagreement with them on their choices. The 81-year-old actor, who has Drena, 57, Raphael, 48, 29-year-old twins Julian and Airyn, Elliot, 27, and Helen Grace, 13, from previous relationships and two-year-old Gia with partner Tiffany Chen, believes the most important thing a parent can do for their kids is to always back their decisions, reports 'Female First UK'. He told 'Entertainment Tonight', 'The main thing is to support your kids. As long as they're not hurting themselves, doing anything destructive or anything like that, you have to support them, period. Even if you don't go with it—you have to support them. And they have to know that you support them. Always'. The 'Goodfellas' star hailed his youngest child as "just pure joy". He added, 'She's two now. It's always wonderful'. As per 'Female First UK', the 'Meet the Fockers' actor previously told of how he "somehow makes it work" when it comes to juggling his career with raising a toddler. He told E! News, "Yeah, she's great! She came on the 'Zero Day' set a few times, I shot that last year. You make it work, somehow. Sometimes I have her on the set with my girlfriend. I'm lucky, I have a camper'. However, Robert admitted he doesn't change the youngster's diapers. Asked if he does, he recently told The Sunday Times magazine, "No, no, but I used to!" But the veteran actor enjoys spending early mornings with his little girl. He said: "I'm an early riser. I spend my mornings watching (YouTuber for toddlers) Ms. Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle'. Robert "tries his best" to be a good dad and to meet his children' s different needs. He said, "Oh God, they would all have a different answer. Family is so complex. I try my best, that's all. I hope they'll be happy'.
