Archie Manning pumps the brakes on grandson Arch Manning entering 2026 NFL Draft

USA Today2 days ago
One of the top projected potential talents eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft is Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning. The debate about if Manning will actually enter the draft after his first season at the helm in Austin has generally leaned against Manning leaving for the draft. That lean toward the prodigy stayting in school for at least two more years just got a lot stronger.
The periodical Texas Monthly ran a feature on young Arch that saw the patriarch of the Manning family, longtime NFL quarterback Archie, flatly reject any notion that his grandson was going to leave Texas after the 2025 college season.
'Arch isn't going to do that," Archie Manning said. "He'll be at Texas.'
Arch Manning is taking over for Quinn Ewers, who was the Longhorns' primary starter a year ago. He completed 67.8% of his passes, netting 939 yards and nine touchdowns against two interceptions. Manning also rushed for 100 yards and four TDs.
His grandson's precociousness certainly weighs on Archie.
"People are saying he's a Heisman candidate," the elder Manning stated. "You're not a Heisman Trophy candidate when you haven't played but three games. It's crazy."
Archie Manning was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft. His sons, Arch's uncles Peyton and Eli, were the No. 1 overall picks in 1998 and 2004, respectively.

Los Angeles Chargers Have Found Their Rashawn Slater Replacement

Los Angeles Chargers Have Found Their Rashawn Slater Replacement originally appeared on The Spun. They had to do something. The Los Angeles Chargers were dealt a tough injury blow with the loss of Rashawn Slater who was placed on season-ending IR this weekend. Slater, a two-time Pro Bowler at left tackle, had to be carted off the field at Thursday's practice with a torn patellar tendon — forcing last year's first-round pick Joe Alt to shift over to Justin Herbert's blindside as the Chargers look for further help on the offensive line. Now according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Bolts have found some assistance in the form of a six-year NFL veteran out of the University of Florida. "Chargers officially placed LT Rashawn Slater on season-ending injured reserve and, in a corresponding move, signed OT David Sharpe, who has played 46 NFL games for the Raiders, Houston, Washington, Baltimore and Carolina," Schefter reported Saturday via X. Sharpe was a fourth round pick back in 2017 and has made six starts across his 45 National Football League appearances in stints with the Raiders, Texans, Commanders, Ravens and Panthers. Fans reacted to LA's latest signing in the reporter's mentions: "Haven't heard that name in forever," a user said. "Duval's Finest 🔥" a podcast replied. "🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 for a fast and safe recovery," a fan commented. "David Sharpe was among the OLs who tried out for the Dolphins before they signed Germain Ifedi," Alain Poupart shared. "Seems like a smart move," another person posted. "Tough break with Slater going down, but smart move bringing in Sharpe, experience matters when you need stability up front," another user pointed out. "A competent franchise now>>>" The Chargers just signed Slater to a four-year, $114 million contract extension last month after he quickly established himself as one of the league's most steady tackles (when healthy). Hopefully he's able come back at full strength in 2026 and help Los Angeles compete in an AFC West that's loaded with talent and great coaching. 'Brutal' Injury Update For WR Rondale Moore On Saturday

'Brutal' Injury Update For WR Rondale Moore On Saturday originally appeared on The Spun. The worst kind of preseason news. It's been a string of unfortunate luck for Rondale Moore thus far at the NFL level and that reportedly continued into 2025. After missing all of last season with a knee injury, the former Purdue star went down in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game and had to be carted off the field; unable to put any pressure on his leg. An emotional Moore put a towel over his head and was visibly upset as he rode back to the locker room — and now the worst is seemingly all but confirmed. Per ESPN's Kevin Seifert: "Rondale Moore has a 'pretty significant' left knee injury, per [Vikings head coach] Kevin O'Connell. He said the play had some characteristics of a hip drop tackle but would seek more clarity. Given Moore's injury history, O'Connell said today was 'heartbreaking.'" Fans felt awful for the ex-second round pick online. "Rondale simply can't get his body to cooperate. Such a shame," Nick Mensio replied. "He literally just came back from a significant knee injury last year…" a user pointed out. "Absolutely brutal few years for Rondale Moore," Falcons reporter Marc Raimondi commented. "This sucks!" a fan exclaimed. "Rondale Moore's season is likely over before it even began," a Vikings blog shared. "Unfortunate for the injury riddled speedy WR." "feel for brah he can't catch a break damn 🙏🏽" another person prayed. "Feel horrible for Rondale Moore. Can't stay healthy," Harrison Graham posted. "Incredibly sad," another user said. "Rondale Moore was one of my favorite players to watch when he was at Purdue. His 2018 season was sensational. Some bad luck at the NFL level." That really does suck for Rondale Moore. 😔. Another injury for him to endure." You hate to see injuries happen at any time but especially in an exhibition game after a guy just fought back from something season-ending the previous year. Last summer, Moore had to be carted off the practice field with an injury to the opposite knee in a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. He signed with the Vikings this offseason on a one-year, $2 million deal back in March.
