Archie Manning pumps the brakes on grandson Arch Manning entering 2026 NFL Draft
The periodical Texas Monthly ran a feature on young Arch that saw the patriarch of the Manning family, longtime NFL quarterback Archie, flatly reject any notion that his grandson was going to leave Texas after the 2025 college season.
'Arch isn't going to do that," Archie Manning said. "He'll be at Texas.'
Arch Manning is taking over for Quinn Ewers, who was the Longhorns' primary starter a year ago. He completed 67.8% of his passes, netting 939 yards and nine touchdowns against two interceptions. Manning also rushed for 100 yards and four TDs.
His grandson's precociousness certainly weighs on Archie.
"People are saying he's a Heisman candidate," the elder Manning stated. "You're not a Heisman Trophy candidate when you haven't played but three games. It's crazy."
Archie Manning was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft. His sons, Arch's uncles Peyton and Eli, were the No. 1 overall picks in 1998 and 2004, respectively.

"Chargers officially placed LT Rashawn Slater on season-ending injured reserve and, in a corresponding move, signed OT David Sharpe, who has played 46 NFL games for the Raiders, Houston, Washington, Baltimore and Carolina," Schefter reported Saturday via X. Sharpe was a fourth round pick back in 2017 and has made six starts across his 45 National Football League appearances in stints with the Raiders, Texans, Commanders, Ravens and Panthers. It's been a string of unfortunate luck for Rondale Moore thus far at the NFL level and that reportedly continued into 2025. After missing all of last season with a knee injury, the former Purdue star went down in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game and had to be carted off the field; unable to put any pressure on his leg. An emotional Moore put a towel over his head and was visibly upset as he rode back to the locker room — and now the worst is seemingly all but confirmed. Per ESPN's Kevin Seifert: "Rondale Moore has a 'pretty significant' left knee injury, per [Vikings head coach] Kevin O'Connell. He said the play had some characteristics of a hip drop tackle but would seek more clarity. Given Moore's injury history, O'Connell said today was 'heartbreaking.'"
