Tabreed CEO Al Marzooqi says company is ready for more acquisitions

Khalid Al Marzooqi, Chief Executive Officer of Tabreed, said his company was 'deep-pocketed' and did not rule out further acquisitions following Tuesday's announcement that it was partnering with infrastructure investment company CVC DIF and buying PAL Cooling Holding from Abu Multiply Group for AED 3.8 billion (approximately US$1 billion).
Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Al Marzooqi said the new Maktoum Airport will be of interest to Tabreed and added: 'We're deep-pocketed and if the opportunity arises, for sure, we're going to pursue it.
'Hopefully, something else is coming. Tabreed has had quite a significant year. We've announced our acquisition for Palm Jebel Ali, which is almost two and a half times larger than Palm Jumeirah, and we basically added Reem Island.
'We have our eyes on some new upcoming business in Dubai, namely, the new Maktoum Airport.'
Al Marzooqi said the strength of Tabreed's new partners allows them to look at new acquisitions.
Asked if Tabreed will continue to look at opportunities along with CVC DIF, he added: 'That might be the case as well. We looked at a lot of investors. CVC are very strong when it comes to infrastructure investors. They run about AED81 billion worth of assets for pension funds and other infrastructure investments. So, we see them as a very, very strong partners. We had a bunch of other companies that we kind of filtered out, and CVC DIF came out as the strongest and the best partners in our JV.
'The gist of this thing is to keep our investment grade, and this was one of the major drivers for us to partner up with the likes of CVC DIF.
'It will allow us to pursue new acquisitions as well, as long as our investment grade is kept solid. We will be funding it, part of it from our cash reserves and company debt. It will unlock our potential for new acquisitions. If the opportunity arises and we see that value accretive for our shareholders, for sure, we're going to pursue it.'

BRF's Saudi investor says it has no influence on management

SAO PAULO: SALIC International Investment Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company, told Brazilian competition authorities on Wednesday it is a passive minority shareholder in rival food producers BRF and Minerva . SIIC, which owns 11.03% of BRF and 24.49% of Minerva, said "it does not hold any political rights that would allow it to interfere with or influence the independence and normal course of business and management of BRF and Minerva." The Saudi investor's clarification comes after a formal information request made by Brazil's antitrust watchdog CADE regarding the proposed takeover of BRF by Marfrig. The deal was approved by the minority shareholders of both companies on Tuesday. The Saudi investor abstained from voting and did not participate in the merger discussions of BRF and Marfrig, according to CADE's disclosures. Separately, CADE cleared the proposed transaction in early June. But CADE's nod was later challenged by Minerva, which asked it to scrutinize the deal more closely. Minerva claimed the merger would involve the transfer of BRF's current shareholders, including SALIC, to Marfrig's shareholding structure through a share swap. Minerva said if the transaction went ahead, the Saudi investor would gain influence over the business decisions of three competitors: Minerva, Marfrig, and BRF. BRF and Marfrig did not comment. CADE responded to Minerva by agreeing with a more prolonged merger review, according to a public decision on Monday. "The alleged facts, if proven, may indicate a possible alignment of interests and exchange of sensitive information between ... competitors," CADE's general superintendent wrote. That decision must be confirmed by a virtual CADE panel on August 11. By law, CADE has a 240-day deadline to investigate complex mergers, extendable by 90 days. If approved, Marfrig and BRF will create another global Brazilian food processor, with factories across the Americas, the Middle East and Asia. (Reporting by Ana Mano; Editing by Chris Reese)

Dubai's 23 best-ranked schools and how much they charge

Parents in Dubai have the choice of dozens of highly rated private schools. Twenty-three schools in the emirate have been rated as 'outstanding' with 48 considered 'very good' by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), according to its latest report. The authority regulates and periodically inspects the emirate's schools, and their scale also includes ratings of 'good', 'acceptable' and 'weak'. The inspections mainly focus on two criteria – wellbeing and inclusion. Schools must also meet the requirements of the National Agenda Parameter which examines their performance in international assessments and progress towards meeting those targets. The parameter also looks at the results of external assessments for key subjects. Pause in inspections The authority released a report rating 209 schools in 2024 and announced that they would be pausing full inspections for the 2025-26 academic year for most schools. Only schools in their third year of operation would be subject to a comprehensive inspection, the authority clarified in May. It said the pause was part of an 'evolving approach to supporting quality education in the emirate'. The inspections were also paused during the 2024-2025 academic year. However, schools will have to continue measuring students' academic progress through external benchmark assessments and submit self-evaluation forms as required. KHDA will monitor school progress with targeted visits focused on specific criteria, Fatma Ibrahim Belrehif, chief executive of the Education Quality Assurance and Compliance Agency at KHDA, said in May. Demand is higher than ever.
